  1. He's an extremely poor mans Diego Costa.
  2. Looks like we might have to change the title to 'the official Elgin City promotion thread'.
  3. Looking at the current United starting eleven, the kinds of antics being described by returning spectators should have been predictable. The flair players have gone, and all that remain are a team of hatchet men. The continual selection of Butcher ahead of Rankin belies the media myth of McNamara's 'football philosophy'. I don't think I've ever watched a United game where Paul Paton didn't feign serious injury at some point to try to get an opponent sent off. Playing the hardman one minute, rolling around holding his face the next. It's pretty ironic really. Only a year ago after deservedly knocking them out of the league cup they were denouncing us as a team of hammer throwers. How the tables have turned.
  4. What a waste, European football there for the taking.
  5. Shades of that home game against United 2 years ago where a win would guarantee European football. We dominated the game, should've buried 3 or 4 easy chances, conceded a soft goal against the run of play, and lost against a poor poor side. Same script.
  6. The final piece of the jigsaw is getting Deano and Esson to play like an extra outfield player, like Manuel Neuer, then we've cracked it!

  8. Dave the Rave's having an excellent season. One below par performance against tricky attacking players and you want to punt him, glad you're not my manager!
  9. Over the piece Inverness probably edged it, but can't complain too much about the result. There was an element of good fortune for 2 of Killies goals, but we can't moan too much, they looked like a pretty decent team, especially going forward. The first came from a shot which took a huge deflection straight into the path of a Killie striker. The second was a bit of poor decision making from Esson. We had a goal kick deep in injury time. He played a hospital pass out to Nick Ross which resulted in a turnover of possession and a free kick to Killie - which they scored from. Had he just gone long chances are the ref would've blown for half time. Fair enough he's probably still rusty from lack of first team football, but he'll need to step up his game if he wants to keep his place when Deano recovers. On another day we would've won by a couple of goals, but at least United lost again, so it's a point gained over them.
  10. It'll be pretty hard to fit that into a song.
  11. That's only one possible inaccuracy. There is also the assumption that each step is an accurate yard which I often doubt. The 10 yard rule must be one of the most poorly observed in football by referees. It ikrs me somewhat that they spray a straight line. Surely the line should be curved?
  12. There's probably some kind of clause that we get an extra fee if he starts so many games.
  13. Their presence might not be good for ICT, but it's good for the local economy. To take just one example, I'd assume that the Kingsmills Hotel must be making an absolute fortune from away teams staying there the night before County matches.
  14. Is it possible that switching Watkins for McKay has actually made us a better team?
  15. We were all pretty confident when we got a home draw in the quarter finals this time last season, and look what happened to us! Let's use that as a lesson / motivation not to repeat the same mistakes this year.
  16. To be fair the OP has a point. Car-crash reality entertainment is big business. Millions of people watch tosh like Geordie Shore, The Only Way Is Essex, Big Brother, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Keeping Up With The Kardashians etc. Even Liverpool FC got in on the action with 'Being Liverpool'. So whilst the spectacle of a football club trawling the depths of' lowest-common-denominator' content for traffic may be unedifying to the purists, it would probably work.
  17. What is it about the Scottish Cup and Hibs?
  18. There are dozens of examples of top players starting out in one position and transitioning to a completely different role (Bale, Henry, Ronaldo, Mascherano, Matthaus - just off the top of my head. Even just looking at our own club - Jim Calder started life as a centre forward, but ended up being one of our best ever goalkeepers. Dennis Wyness started as a midfielder, but ended up being our all time top goal scoring centre forward. Roy McBain started as a winger, but ended up being one of our best ever holding midfielders. Ross Tokely started as a striker, but ended up being one of our best ever right backs. Graeme Shinnie started as a left back, but also excels at right back and central midfield. We're too obsessed with categorizing footballers in this country. We have plenty of talented attacking players with pace, skill, vision and an eye for goal - all the attributes required for a centre forward. There's no reason whatsoever why Marley Watkins, Ryan Christie, Aaron Doran, Nick Ross or James Vincent can't play up front. We should focus on footballing ability, not artificial labels. Thankfully we have a manager who looks beyond narrow 'specialist' positions and looks to be trying to develop well-rounded footballers with full-spectrum knowledge of the game. I hope he succeeds. Let's give him a chance.
  19. Looking at the bigger picture, good to see lots of money coming into / being spread within the Scottish football ecosystem. Old Firm apart, long gone are the days of Scottish clubs wasting silly money on transfer fees for foreign players.
  20. Don't see the need for panic signings. At the end of the day you can only put 11 players on the park, and we already have quality attacking players on the bench chomping at the bit for action. I'd rather give them a chance than get carried away with the transfer deadline hype and bring in some mercenary for the sake of it.
  21. Can't believe Sevco even have a hair-stylist on the payroll, no wonder they're bankrupt. Good news for Dave the Rave if true though.
  22. Terrible pitch, terrible referee, terrible performance. It was never going to be easy against County in these kind of conditions. The long ball approach made sense. We didn't execute it well at all though. Too many completely aimless punts which didn't fall within 30 yards of a blue shirt. When we played long balls in the past we were much better at 'ring fencing' the target (MNF reference) and winning second balls. Today we basically just kept giving possession back to County. For the majority of the second half there was no impetus to get forward, and we seemed happy to sit on our lead, a dangerous game. In previous outings we managed to see out narrow leads by hogging possession. That was never going to work today. On a side not, every time a County player was fouled they feigned serious injury, and every time without fail that gullible clown Beaton flashed a card. Not impressed. Nor by the antics of McIntyre and Dods on the touchline, pair of absolute numpties.
