  1. Worryingly soft goals conceded there. Brill looks like he's still on his holidays.
  2. Christie, Watkins and Foran can all play up front alongside McKay should we ever need to resort to 4-4-2 so I'm not sure a new striker is as necessary as some make out. Nobody's ever taken my suggestion on, but I still say Zander Sutherland would be a good wildcard signing. Another hat trick against league 1 opposition this weekend.

  4. They obviously didn't put any sacking clauses in his contract (i.e. in the event of relegation). IIRC Moyes was fired as soon as it became mathematically impossible for MU to qualify for Champions League because of such a clause. Another schoolboy error from Petrie and co, although to be fair the odds of it actually happening seemed so remote at the time, I don't blame them. This would be a good time for Butcher to take a sabbatical away from management. Hopefully he's using the time to write memoirs about his time as ICT / Hibs manager, that would be a cracking read.
  5. Before the semi-final Luiz had the best performance stats of any defender in the tournament. PSG won't use him as a centre half. Mourinho played him as a holding midfielder this season, a role which he is probably more suited to. The fact that Brazil had to employ him in his second best position says a lot about their lack of depth. German football is definitely in the ascendency at the moment. The SPFL could learn a lot from the way they run their game.
  6. Wouldn't be so pessimistic. USA and Algeria both ran the Germans close. Brazil were just honkin. Had images of a Butcher post match interview 'we just throw that one in the bin and forget about it.' It was one of those.
  7. Part of me actually misses the days when we had to rebuild every season, it made pre-season friendlies much more interesting - worth the long treks to see all these unknown new players in action. The same feeling you had in the playground opening a pack of Panini stickers.
  8. A little off topic, but I get the feeling this Leeann Dempster is starting to believe her own hype. As far as I'm aware she has no football experience or coaching credentials, but she's popping up on the news and in the papers talking about her 'football plans' for Hibs. Another egomaniac bureaucrat interfering in the background, exactly what Hibs need. Terry Butcher may be a former Uefa Cup winner, England Captain, Scotland assistant manager, and one of the most successful SPL managers in recent years - "but ah know better, ciz ah used tae run Motherwell like." Motherwell's recent purple patch obviously had nothing to do with Stuart McCall or their strong nucleus of experienced players. It was all down to Leeann. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hibs relegated again next season.
  9. Crazy decision by Hibs. I have mixed emotions. On the one hand, serves him right for walking out on us. There's always going to be some bitterness when someone decides they can do better and 'dumps' you. On the other hand, I'm appreciative of and grateful for the fantastic job he did for us. It wasn't unreasonable for him to have a crack at a bigger club. He'd earned it. Hibs are a sleeping giant. (20,000 seater stadium, £5,000,000 training complex, Capital of Scotland). They've been rotten for years, and have a squad full of overpaid, overblown Championship / League 2 level players. Butcher isn't to blame for this. He has a proven track record of building good teams from scratch on a shoestring budget, as he proved year after year for us. It's an absolute joke that they've sacked him before he's had a chance to bring in his own players.
  10. In the fixtures VS Aberdeen last season I saw nothing that suggested they are 'going places'. They aren't any better than ICT. If it weren't for the manager transition / ridiculous fixture congestion we probably would have finished above them. It's also worth noting that they rely heavily on aging players, whereas most of our first team (Foran apart) are in their mid 20s and are only going to get better. Assuming Hughes doesn't do anything daft, I see no reason why we shouldn't finish above Aberdeen next season. PS What's their debt again?
  11. I heard a rumour that Johnny Hayes is coming back to ICT. Maybe the two are linked?
  12. Anyone fancy a punt on Zander Sutherland? Still only 26, scored 35 goals in 44 games this season. Pace, trickery, clinical finisher. I would take him in for a 2 week trial just to see what he can do.
  13. Butcher's Motherwell finished bottom of the SPL and should have been relegated but were given a reprieve due to First Division champions Falkirk not meeting stadium criteria.
  14. Butcher making some history. The first manager to finish bottom of the SPL with 3 different clubs.
  15. Zander Sutherland - 35 goals in 44 appearances last season. Still only 26. Worth giving him a trial?
  16. We have a very young squad, so it's not unreasonable to expect us to develop and push on each subsequent season.
  17. How about making season tickets more lucrative? Season tickets can also be used for 3 Clach home games. Season ticket holders automatically become members of the Caley Social club. Seaason ticket holders get a discount on Ironworks gigs. Season ticket holders get a half price meal at Kitchen on the River. Season ticket holders get a discount on membership at Forge gym. etc etc A little bit of cross promotion with other local businesses could go a long way. I'd also like to see the club have a bigger presence in the city centre. You could have a temporary stall set up in the High Street advertising fixtures and selling tickets. Most tourists could be forgiven for not even realizing Inverness has a football team. Kenny Shiels and Jimmy Nichol used to go around the pubs in Kilmarnock trying to recruit fans and sell tickets. He might have been a mediocre manager, but our club could use that kind of enthusiasm. Rather than waiting for fans to show up, go out, take the initiative and be proactive.
  18. I thought we released him prematurely. The similarities to Vigurs are quite strong. Both players of great ability, but immature and temperamental. Top managers snap up these rough gems and work on their mental issues. Get the impression Butcher lacks patience and enjoys firing people.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Butcher statistically the worst manager in Hibs history? Sauzee was pretty guff, but I don't think his results were anywhere near this bad.
  20. How we SHOULD play at Celtic Park.
  21. Who will be sacked first, Butcher or Hughes?
  22. Its a bit ironic looking back at the comments Butcher made early on in his Hibs tenure where he compared them to Marks and Spencer, and ICT to Aldi. If you look at the retail sector, it's the discount stores like Aldi and Lidl who are on the rise, while the more established franchises like Marks and Spencer are struggling.
  23. As much as I dislike Adams, he's done nothing wrong there. The SFA should throw the book at Hamill. So should Hearts. Hamill is a league 2 standard player who's only skills are diving and time wasting.
  24. Have you forgotten all the sitters that Rooney used to miss for us DD?
