Barry Wilson

Many of us were upset when Barry was allowed to leave. Now that he has indicated he will not be staying with QOS beyond the beginning of 2010 should we try to sign him for the rest of the season with a view to perhaps offering him a coaching position or should we pass ?

Courier Article: http://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/news/fu...ave_Queens.html

"I want to play until the end of the season if I can and I would even consider going part-time, but I'll just need to see what happens." With his playing career now coming to an end, Wilson is keen to get involved in coaching, although his decision to play on well into his 30s means jobs on this side of the game are few and far between. "Because I've played on for so long then there are very few opportunities to get into coaching," he added. "I've never made any secret of the fact that it's something I want to do, but at the moment I'm just keeping my options open."

My personal opinion ... this future manager of ICT should be snapped up now as a player or player/coach. Like Charlie he is and always has been an excellent ambassador for ICT and although his playing chances might be limited to a few cameos he is the type of professional who can have a positive influence on our younger players.

What makes you think he'd be an "ideal" replacement? He could be an absolute disaster for all we know. It could also be said that he may be too close to the team and in some ways, should Butcher go say, at the end of the season, that would be essentially him being promoted, becoming the boss of players that used to be equals. Not always a good idea.

BTW - I voted "Yes".

White man speak with forked tongue.

Looks like the majority voted yes but have some reservations. At this rate we'll be needing a retirement home down the dump.

Yes, time to start getting the next management/coaching team together, ready to step in when called upon. Perfect cover for injuries/possible january departures as well, get him signed before he heads across the bridge. He's settled up here, so ideal place for him to work.

Talk about jumping a chasm in two leaps!

Can ICT justify a wage for a sub?

In what way is he qualified / suitable to be the next ICT manager?!

I think that a few people are looking at this thread through rose tinted glasses. Barry Wilson WAS a great player for ICT when he was younger. No denying that. I also miss the team when he and Robson played together. However I don't think by resigning him is going to lead to a vast improvement in results which would see us march up the table.

Did I mention Barry as Manager? Still think he can do a job in this division, signed till the end of the season, and see what our managerial/coaching situation is then. If he is already here, it would be easier for him to become part of any new set up if or when it happens.

Looks like hes on the verge of signing for Peterhead.

I would have liked to have seen him back here but I cant see how he could improve the team this season,I don't mean that as an insult to Barry I mean it more of a compliment to our current squad of players.

If he's planning management I think he would be better starting out at a highland league or lower league club to find his feet and build up some experience.

I think he has still got a season and a half in him at div 2 level. In that time at Peterhead I'm sure he'll make his mark and probably end up in the coaching staff. Well done Barry and good luck.

Haste ye back!

Definitely!!!!!

Realistically, in the current climate, we can't afford to extend Butcher and Malpas contracts

next season.

Barry could be the ideal man to take on the Asst Role!

Bring Back Barry!

Mrs PB

I voted "yes" because, as i said in the Transfer Rumours thread in the Rumour Mill, he could become part of the management team that are in place now and learn off of them like Coisty is doing at Rangers and when Butcher and Mo leave he would be the ideal replacement.

What makes you think there is anything to learn from B & M I not seen anything that would inspire me.
