Motson to retire

GREAT NEWS  :021:

Does anyone actually rate him as a commentator?

I was so pleased when they introduced the option of listening to the 5 Live commentary via the red button - saved my muting Motson

All the best John - you won't be missed

I'd be happier if Lawrenson was retiring. The pair of them going together would be tremendous news. I had a good laugh as they tried to claim that Abidal shouldn't have been sent off in the Italy v France game.

I quite liked him.  He was enthusiastic and very biased towards England.  For me, that passion (and disappointment) is what it's all about - even when I don't support their team.

As Mr Motson might say:

Perhaps it is significant that Motson, known for his camel hair coat is retiring in this, the Chinese Year of the Rat. One has to wonder, is it a desert rat?  Very much so I fancy.

One has to wonder, is it an omen that in 1966, England also had a famous commentator that may or may not have had a brother?  And there we have it, in a nutshell.

SSSHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEE

EEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOAL!
