  1. I just hope the current board have learned from the previous mistakes and will keep working within our means which might involve some more of our youngsters being used in the first team.

  2. Wasn't Darren studying for a degree? He's maybe wanting to continue studying or to use his degree for a more secure long term future. Perhaps he didn't quite have the motivation required to succeed as a full time professional footballer and will be happier going part time. If he can enjoy his football whilst not having to rely on it to earn a crust, then good luck to the lad.

  3. Except Derry are probably a bigger club than us... Hardly "Lower League" when they've played in the Champions League 3 times and Europa League 5 times compared to our record of 0 and 1...

  4. There is merit in taking risks in any walk of life. Our big mistake was taking too many risks and making too many unrealistic assumptions in a very short period of time. After winning the Scottish Cup we should have been looking to consolidate rather than spending beyond our means in an attempt to reach even greater heights.

  5. I've heard so many versions of what the contractual arrangements were and why he wasn't playing that I am certainly not going to take any sides on this. What I do know is that he performed well for us when he did play, but after a shaky start, Mark Ridgers has been outstanding and has been 1st choice keeper on merit. It is also reasonable to assume that given Owain has turned down various offers in the past, the salary he was on here was better than he was being offered elsewhere, whether he was playing or not. It is difficult to attract decent offers if you are not actually playing and putting yourself in the shop window, and therefore I would suspect that he was getting quite a bit more than he was being offered elsewhere. I don't think there is any point conjecturing about his honesty or integrity. What is important is that the club learns from the mistakes of the past and we are not burdened with the consequences of contracts offered as a result of unrealistic expectations of future success. There is a difference between taking a calculated risk and being foolhardy.

  6. Would be a great idea to get some sort of link-up with Augsburg as part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations. I recall my cousin playing for an Inverness select against Celtic, Augsburg and a 4th club which escapes me (possibly Dunfermline) back in the early 80s in a 2 day tournament at the Bught Park. I'm sure I've still got the programme in my loft. Was always a bit puzzled why nothing more tangible ever came of the Augsburg connection. Seems like loads of towns and village in Moray and Buchan are twinned with German towns and the relationship seems much more active than ours is with Augsburg. Having said that the apathy I witnessed around our last international friendly against Antwerp would suggest there wouldn't be a huge level of interest. The Belgians took a very decent away support to Le Stade and probably out numbered those of us in the home end. Unfortunately I'm not convinced Augsburg would be much different.

  7. That's another reason that I like you Kingsmills- -you get straight to the point. Actuellement, when Owain came back he was , seemingly, jettisoned by the club and left on the sidelines. He is a good keeper (or was at least) and there was no reason for such an isolationist policy against a player who either made a mistake or should be praised for having the guts to try anther scenario abroad. No manager nor any club should attempt to control the life or destiny of any player UNLESS there is a signed contract in the boardroom of the club which he has either not kept to or abandoned or the other party to the deal was refusing to play him etc, etc. We don't know exactly how much he was paid before his departure and it says quite a lot for the player that when he decided to come back he came back to Caley Thistle, showing by that move alone that he cared for the club. He is not a criminal and yes, he may have made a mistake, by swanning off abroad like Dick Whittington to make his fortune but so what.? ..He was still able to kick a ball out of the goalie's area, was a very good keeper and the club should have put bygones behind them and encouraged him by playing him as frequently as possible. And IHE, spell out to me what other players would have done anything different to OFW re his actions to the money that came to him?

  11. Off topic I know but, while I appreciate the connections particularly with St Valery, I've often wondered why Inverness is twinned with one city so much bigger and one village so much smaller but with no town or city of broadly similar size.

  15. Well tell me any other players who have similiarly been self-centered and basically left the club in a lurch. Then look at those who left promptly when the clearout was necessitated. I thought that he did perform well for us but lets face it - he was picked for Wales because of the clubs performances defensively as much as it was about his international quality. He was basically a third placed bench warmer. His only Wales performance was when he came on for an injured Hennessey, against Holland, with 16 minutes to go. He came on when the score was 2-2. Holland won 3-2. He is a better painter than a custodian - especially with his dodgy leg.

Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.

The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!

Massive: Just under 1500 fans rattled around inside the national stadium for the proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table with Inverness looking to get out of the play-off place and Queens one point ahead at the start of the game. In a tense first half Cammy Harper scored a stunning free kick after Cillian Sheridan had handled 25 yards out. Boom! That's how it ended despite QP upping their game in the second period as Inverness kept them at bay.

Hampden Calling: Carragher is now a doubt after feeling his hamstring. Other than that not much has changed apart from Remi Savage, who has not recovered after he got a boot in the face from Cammy Kerr. Apparently Kerr's boot is OK but Savage is suffering from minor concussion and will miss the next couple of games. Maybe that was Kerr ensuring he gets a game this weekend.
