  1. and get a proper haircut!! I think if they had said ir more advance than a few days that they would be doing cheap tix for a few of the diddy teams like hamilton & st johnstone we might get a better turnout. should be a good crowd for the elgin game but it's about creating awareness aswell as just the gesture. The Elgin game will be below 3,000 comfortably. Aren't elgin going to be taking a few pikey's through with them on saturday seeing as it is a derby kinda an the first time the teams have met in a competitive competition nationally? Yeah but it will still be between 2-3,000

  3. Caley Club is good for before games. The drink and food is cheap, has tv's showing sky/espn games and has a bus taking you to and back from the game. A bit more advertising would be better though! They have got better with letting in non members in on match days as well.
  4. Why the need for another petition? There was already the supporters survey recently that had about 5,000 participants and showed 80 odd percent were against a 10 team league. Do we really need another similar thing?
  5. I would like to see playoffs introduced at the bottom of the league as they are exciting and maybe look at the possiblity of having a playoff for the last league Europa place. (This won't work at the moment with 3rd place being our last guaranteed position and I think whoever finishes 3rd deserves qualification for Europe but it could work if we regain a 4th league place). For the other points- I don't like the idea of more midweek games at all, doesn't suit as in the slightest. The lower ticket prices are something everyone wants but I can't see it happening in the near future. Also reducing ticket prices by half won't double the crowd, I remember Motherwell heavily reduced theirs for a time and there was no major rise in crowds. You can't scrap the Euro place for Scottish Cup winners, for a start the winners deserve a place in Europe, it adds extra meaning to the cup and also UEFA won't allow it. The national cup winners get a place by their rules. The league did try to remove the Euro place for runners up, which I agree with as coming second in the cup isn't an achievement which should be rewarded over 4th place in the league, but UEFA said that we couldn't do this.
  6. Well said, agree totally. How long till Sky and other broadcasters push for a 10 team English Premiership so they can have Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Man C and Liverpool all playing each other four times a season? Beware the Birminghams, Wigans, West Broms and Blackpools of this world! Birmingham etc are big enough clubs to sustain top level football and there are plenty others in the championship of a decent size who could fit into the top level. Cowdenbeath and Brechin aren't and will never be a big enough club to operate at the top level. Comparing us to England is daft as they have over 10 times the population as us and can sustain a top flight of 20 teams. In Scotland we can't and it's just fantasy thinking we can.
  7. I'm not entirely sure but it porbably includes SKY who said they won't pay as much for a 16 team league. A revamped league cup I don't think would make up anywhere near the shortfall as the crowds in that cup are poor, even in derby games.
  8. So what do you propose? What do you think is the best system? And why? I say 16 is best because it will alow us to re-build broken, debt-ridden teams, by bringing them in from the cold, that is, if we get people in place that also want to save Scottish football. It will also allow teams to forego buying in over-paid imports, and play youth, which are free, and a source of revenue, far greater than TV money, and a lot more stable. Tackling debt, by supporting clubs, by taking away the fear of oblivion, and creating a real effort-based all-leavel youth programme. Ideas such as regional youth leagues, drafts, etc., have all been discussed here. Splits and play-offs to combat reduction in games/competitiveness have also been discussed. What are your alternatives? Don't be like the SPL and just say no. It's not drugs we're selling... Sorry but that is just pure fantasy. It's been reported clubs would lose £1m by going to a 16 team league, budgets would have to be slashed, the quality of player would reduce dramatically and therfore the quality of the league, crowds would probably drop as well. Yes we would be playing more youth players but at the moment we are seeing plenty of young players get their chance at a young age, the ones who are good enough. The reduction of games will harm clubs and what split has been proposed in a 16 team league? You don't give any example of a workable one. And any idea of playoffs at the top end of the league has already been thrown out. I just don't think 16 or 18 is workable and going by this article on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.u...rem/9339466.stm all member clubs have been persuaded against a 16 or 18 team league so it looks like it's not even an option. I would prefer a 14 team league, play each other twice (26 games) then split into a 6/8 giving 36/40 games. The lower end have 2 more home games which can ofset not playing the bigger teams and these teams are generally not going to be in Europe, later stages of cups regularly as well. Also have playoffs at botom of spl/top of 1st. The only realistic options at the moment seem to be a 10, 12 or 14 team league.
  9. How would a bigger league give teams leeway to reduce ticket prices? It wouldn't at all! 16 team league, as has been said clubs would be losing about £1m. We would have 8 fewer games than we do now so if anything clubs would have to slash budgets which affects the level of player that can be brought in. Ticket prices would not reduce on top of this. Same goes for an 18 team league where we would be playing 4 less game. How on earth does that give clubs leeway to reduce prices?? And as for this myth that clubs will suddenly start playing entertaining football, what a load of nonsense. The standard will be exactly the same in Scotland, you won't suddenly see Barcelona esq style football in the SPL. The amount of meningless games would be huge and that is the opposite to what is needed. Meaningless games aren't exciting bringing in bumber crowds, there has to be something at stake to draw in the crowds. Having 20 meaningless games a season for some teams is not the way forward unless you want to kill Scottish football alltogether.
  10. That kind of backs up what I said! For that you would have to go into the second division as things stand just to make 18 teams. Then who...6th placed Airdrie in division 2 and two teams at the bottom of the 3rd in Queens Park and Clyde. As for the teams who would then be challenging to get up we just do not have clubs of a decent size to sustain it so meeting any ambition would start killing off clubs. As the league stands right now Cowdenbeath would be top of a new 1st division. A club who got 500 at their last home game and there are plenty more of their size who would be near the top end of a 1st division. and it is not the same as 'every one else' as the cowdenbeths, Stirlings and Brechins are never battling for promotion to the SPL at the moment as they are not big enough clubs to reach that level, have an 18 top league and then they will be among the next level of team. Not to mention the tedious amount of meaningless games that would be created, we don't have the level of european places to make it anywhere near interesting outside the top 5, bottom 5 and no reduction of a 'fear factor' will lead to silky football with the standard of player in Scotland. Crowds also drop in meanigless games so that would affect the league as well. The games need to be worth something to bring the crowds out, that is shown in football every year with relegation threatened teams seeing a rise in crowds for big games.
  11. Firstly I don't know how to multi quote but to Tug- It is not the time frame it is the losing 8 games from the season. 4 home game per team, it doesn't generate enough games in that respect. And before someone mentions an expanded league cup, groups, just look at the crowds in the competition just now, even in derbys. It would never make up the shortfall. As for not having enough good enough team, I ws refering to an 18 team league and we definitely don't. For a start you would have to get rid of any stadium requirement whatsoever as at the moment you could only make 18 teams that meet the current requirements by going down to the 2nd division and then into the 3rd. At the moment we could just about get away with 18 teams but then we would have Cowdenbeath, Morton, Brechin etc at the top of the 1st battling to get into the top league. There is just not enough quality and enough big clubs to sustain an 18 team league. Also there would be so many meaningless games in an 18 team league that it would be so dull. At the moment only 1-3 qualify for Europe, it would create far to many dead games in the middle of the league. The only options that will be seriously considered I think are 10, 12 or 14 team league.
  12. We don't have enough good teams for an 18 team league and 16 does not give enough games. Also some people keep going on about taking away the 'fear factor' and without fear of relegation then teams will open up etc etc. That is just rubbish imo, you will not suddenly see silky football in Scotland without a fear of relegation, the standard will be the same. Also if there is less pressure with more teams that will be because it will create many more meaningless games. The football will be of the same standard but the crowds will drop if the games have no meaning. You see this when a team is in danger of relegation, crowds increase, they increase where the is something at stake not for meaningless mid table game where teams have nothing to play for. The only viable option for change would be to move to a 14 team league or stay as we are but introduce playoffs at the bottom of the league/top of first.
  13. Joe DiMaggio replied to Tug's topic in Caley Thistle
They get them made quick enough after the split so there has been planty of time.
  14. This guy had a big Rambo perm and an awful kilt. He came in with a lady(asssuming it was his wife) then was joined at the table by two more punters. http://www.caleyjags...tone/index.html There you go, where's Wally? And deff not IHE as going by those pics he was kilt less on sun!
  15. Those game will be ones that are covered on BBC Alba. What ever game they show 'as live' on a sat night at 7 or 8pm you are able to find on the live stream sites at 3pm. Had a quick look and the next time we are on that channel is 12th feb away to St. Mirren so that game will be available watch live at 3pm on the usual streaming sites!
  16. 4th place only gets into the Europa league this season if 2nd or 3rd place wins the cup or if 1st place wins it against 2nd or 3rd. If the league winners win it against someone below 4th then the runners up take that place. Just have to make sure we finish 3rd and win the cup this season!
  17. I think he owes it to the club to sign a new deal, Then if a club is after him then they would have to pay a fee for him, helping the club and if he keeps going the way he is there will be plenty of clubs in the championship willing to pay a fee. Walking away for free is of no benifit to the club which has helped him get to this level.
  18. Potato tomato...
  19. He had a bad game, wow. Every player has them now and again where nothing works for them. At least he got it out of the way in a game we drew. Here's hoping he's fit for saturday because this is a game where we really need Hayes as he could do serious damage to a team like St. Mirren and could be a match winner.
  20. Jeezo, I must have missed all this despite not being far away from this. Doofer, the guy with the flag and his mate were on the wind up. Flagman was just conforming to the "hun lite" stereotypeand the odd surreptitious nazi salute kinda gave it away. I'd suggest that that flag has other, almost universally understood, connotations in the central belt but hey, If you give it, you gotta take it. I don't think that "ten quid in tesco's" was a terrible thing to shout at some rotund ned in a vomit yellow trackie top. We need to chill people, it's that time of year. Not one person has said it was!!
  21. Please don't try to sing that!! It's awful!!
  22. Any Aberdeen based fans wanting to go to the game on sat. We have a friends fare and there is 1 spare return ticket avaliable, only ?10. Leaving 09.07 back at either 17.28 or 19.28. Any one interested?
  23. No big name player from any league would go on loan over thier close season. It wouldn't keep them fresh at all, it would burn them out. No club would allow it and no player would even consider doing it. And don't use Beckham as an example becasue the MLS has a shorter season and longer close season than the leagues in Europe and he was only doing it to try and force his way into the england side. It is a totaly different scenario in Europe.
  24. What is the case it says Niculae has against the club in Inverness Sheriff Court ?? Is this on a different matter?
  25. Best away game- Hearts Worst- Celtic
