  6. even the ultra-pro Aberdeen BBC commentary team comment on the weak booking for Polworth for protesting a corner with the linesman yet no booking for Hayes for getting right in the face of Collum just a few minutes later. 2-2 FT

  11. lets get back on topic please. the semantics of 'conspiracy theories' versus 'alternative viewpoints' are all well and good, as are the origin of various groups ... but it is not for this thread. start something up in another part of the forum if thats what you want. Bottom line is that in the current climate - and I would argue that its been like this in the UK for decades due to a threat from closer to home - you simply dont leave bags unattended anywhere, especially at public events.
  12. I guess that last post also explains MLS refereeing too !
  13. yeah, I reckon so ... but it made me look at the 'CONCACAF' list .... and trust me, the names on there are just as scary.
  14. There are more than 24 in the world .... looking at FIFA.com they reference various conferences for 'elite' referees and in various places quote 23 from UEFA, 10 from Asia, 9 from Africa, 3 from Oceania and no clear numbers from North, Central and South America. I cant find an actual list but one blog I found noted 3 MLS referees as part of the FIFA 'elite' ranking and at least two of them are on a par with Collum's inconsistencies .... we shudder at the names Baldomero Toledo, Jair Marrufo and worse still, David Gantar over here every bit as much as Scottish supporters do over the name Willie Collum ! seems the "elite" referee status is a course much like the UEFA 'A', 'B' and 'C' licenses for coaches .... came across this reference over here: http://www.concacaf.com/article/elite-refereeassessor-course-opens-in-florida
  15. When he gets it right he can be an excellent referee ... he just doesnt get it right that often or more importantly for most fans .... consistently.

  18. I am making an assumption here that the OP is a season ticket holder and so are the people around the area where he/she sits as thats how the post reads so my guess would be: The stewards saw it unattended and reported it to the higher ups. The people sitting in the immediate area (but not the bag owners) said, "oh yes, it belongs to "Mhairisdad", he's just gone for a pie". Due to the rules and protocols in place, even though it was no longer thought to be abandoned as such, nor was it likely to be a threat, it was still removed. The bag and owner were not in the same place so the safety officer and all concerned in making the decision have no choice. In fact, they were more lenient than they could have been and if I had any questions it would be the same as @bdu98196 in wondering why they put it in the office rather than elsewhere. I guess they made a risk assessment based on their knowledge of the seat, the seat holder, and perhaps even the CCTV footage.
  19. He brings balance to the force Don Vader, balance to the force.
  20. If this is your usual routine at your normal seats did you not ask those who usually sit in the seats around you to watch your bag to stop it being nicked and vouch for you if anyone (like security) came by? Alternatively, if its a backpack and presumably has straps, why not just wear it when you go down for a pie, or buy a pie on the way up .... ? Given recent events, including at the Stade De France, I dont think it is unreasonable for security to be more vigilant during a televised game. "Soft" targets appear to be on the list so cant fault them for lifting a bag that appears abandoned .... although if it were me I might have thrown it straight in the Firth in case it went off !!! You want security .... try being rapidly cleared from the middle of check-in (with bags just in process of being weighed and tagged) at Charles De Gaulle airport when they discover an abandoned bag there !!! happened to us just before the Charlie Hebdo incident and those French troops do not mess around !!!
  21. nope. not given up, thats different than saying there should be a european spot for the winners of the League Cup too. I think it was around the time that Caley played St Johnstone in the (Scottish) cup many moons ago, but I do recall a few folk saying things like 'we are only 4 games away from Europe' and stuff like that. We were never going to make it there but its mere existence as a possible prize made the so-called romance of the cup real. Why shouldnt as many clubs from the whole of Scottish football be allowed to dream ... if only for a minute (or 90).
  22. The wording (taken from the Scotsman) is crucial ... "Group stage draw seeded and, where practicable, regionalised. One Premiership team in each group." The Glasgow Evening Times expands a bit more: "The draw for the group stages will be seeded and will take into account this season's league placings (ie. Rangers and Hibs would be regarded as seeds in the event that they win promotion this season) but in practice true regional groupings may be difficult to achieve. Similar to Uefa draw procedures, the SPFL will simply stipulate that teams are not forced to travel huge distances." The 'penalty point' is very similar to Ice Hockey although even there they play extra-time ('overtime') before going to the penalty shootout. 3pts for a win, 2pts for a 'winning draw' and 1 pt for a 'losing draw' ... seems to work ok.
  23. Its innovative and different, so fair play to the league for actually trying something less mundane. Whilst I dont overly endorse the idea of regionalisation due to the familiarity factor, it makes sense when you think about it ... if we, an established premiership side, baulk at the idea of travelling the length of the country then how much worse must it be for some of the lower league sides with even less budget or resources. As for timing ... where else would you fit it in? The season is now basically a 10 month one (AUG-MAY) and on two out of every 4 years there is either a World Cup or a Euro Championship to worry about (albeit not a big worry in Scotland for a while). The format seems to be harking back to the early days of this competition where it was played in a group stage too, but in those days it was the top clubs distributed in one set of groups and the lower teams in another ensuring some of the lower league teams reached the quarters .... it will be interesting to see how it goes. I also agree that the winners of both of our cup competitions should get a Euro spot. I always thought it was UEFA who had moved the goalposts here but apparently it is within the purview of the national association (SFA) to grant a Euro spot to the winners of both the primary and secondary cup competitions. They removed it in 1995 when our co-efficient dropped badly and we only had a few teams in Europe and it was felt that the winners of this competition typically qualified from the league or Scottish Cup anyway. The fact that lower division Raith Rovers were the last qualifiers to get in this way apparently didnt seem ironic to them. As someone who has supported ICT since day one I like the idea that this could be another way into Europe, especially for smaller teams given that the timing means the higher ranked teams may not yet be firing on all cylinders and it might afford a greater chance for a smaller team to have a 'Roy of the [Raith] Rovers' type run to the final and then to the European stage (where Rovers incidentally went out to eventual winners Bayern Munich in the 3rd round !!! - better than many teams nowadays [including us]). If we (Scotland) accept our lot as a European minnow these days then allowing the winners of the cup, and their fans the adventure and romance of the cup in this way might prove enjoyable.

  25. good overall performance from ICTFC. Thought Collum had a reasonable game too .... until that crap at the end. We were going for it to try and get an equaliser and the bizarre award of the handled ball as a Devine OG just killed any chance ....
