Aye it was, that was a belter. They spent the whole second half peppering our box but we held out for yet another SPL (as it was then) scalp.

Yes, it was high time they won something. They'd really been letting The Highlands down, dragging along in their dour sort of way without even a national cup to celebrate. The league cup might not be much, but hey, at least it's something. I thought it highly decent of ICT to help them on their way.

To be fair, we would have finished with fewer points than County if it weren't for the 9 easy points we got for humping them off the pitch every time we played them in the league last year...

I think the fact that we gave them Ross Tokely more than makes up for all of those...

That's a bad loss. How does one apply for the position of Head Scout at Aberdeen Football Club? Must be the easiest job in the world, just turn up at Caley Thistle matches through the season (or you could probably get away with watching the highlights on a Sunday night) and snap up anyone who scores a few goals.

The first against Kilmarnock looks great but his second in that game, where he took the game and the ball by the scruff of the neck by hustling onto the ball in his own half, laying off then being there to finish it says everything about his potential. I'm sure he'll do well at Wigan if he gets the chance to settle in.

Best of luck Billy. Not sure how great a move it is for him, he'll be going from a team who seem to love playing together and have been enjoying the winning feeling a lot (and living in the most beautiful part of the UK) to what looks like a relegation dogfight with a team that's not winning a lot (and living in Wigan). No doubt he'll pocket a lot more dough each week but he wouldn't be the first person to leave ICT for a bigger club and a doubled salary and live to regret it. Still, I hope he makes a great name for himself on the bigger stage and moves onward and upward. So long and thanks for all the goals.

Good to know we'll get some official guidance. I'd hate to think that any song that I'm singing would upset groups or individuals who express their cultural heritage by dwelling in slums, raking in a bucket for something to eat or celebrating their something-rotten and dead-rat-based cuisine. I should think we'd be in the clear with "The County End (Is Always Full)", however: With its joyous celebration of Victoria Park's smashing attendance record coupled with its proud history of tolerance towards football fans of all sexual orientations (including enthusiastic self-pleasurists) it seems absolutely in-keeping with the politically correct spirit of the age.

Alan Hercher. The ball bounced off him into the net three times in our first ever league game and he became a fixture from then on. Seemed a lovely man, but a shambling, awkward footballer, even in division three.

Daisy was a great crowd favourite, a real grafter and quite a fast runner. For some reason we were fascinated by the Kinlochbervie connection, and somehow also got the idea that he was a millionaire (no idea if there's any truth in that, if he was it certainly wasn't from football-related earnings!). We used to delight in the idea of him thundering down the long road from Kinlochbervie, presumably in a Rolls Royce, Ferrari, or some other millionaire-appropriate motor car, pulling on a Caley Thistle strip, sprinting down the wing and providing a duff pass or fluffed cross. Mind you, anyone's skills would be shown up when they had the great Wilsy on the other wing!

That is a p1sh decision. There was totally a stamp on Hayes, as anyone watching from the main stand will be able to confirm (although, perhaps unsurprisingly, the sightlines from the Aberdeen dug-out didn't give so clear a view!). The TV replays weren't clear enough to confirm it because there wasn't a camera with a good angle - in each case Hayes' body masked the view of the stamping boot which was clearly more than just an attempt to disentagle himself.

Ace. Delighted to see Ross back for another season of SPL mayhem

That bodes well, Neksor - it sounds almost exactly like the many voices predicting that Rossco wouldn't be able to cope in the SPL last time we were promoted.... then he scooped every Player of the Year award going at the club! The man is a legend and the sooner we hear he's safely signed up for a few more years of causing a rumpus in the SPL, the happier I'll be.

"We all love Cox" was excellent, particularly at East End Park on the first game of last season when he scored a late winner and got us singing "We're going up" and believing it, for the first if not the last time! I always enjoy goalie-directed songs. A great favourite from history was "One Jimmy Calder and he's a Big Jimmy Calder Big Jimmy Caaaalder Yes he's a Big Jimmy Calder" To the same tune but directed at Tony Bullock came the touching ballad "Here for the ballboys You're only here for the ballboys" I must stand up for Bridge & Castle - it's wonderful (like Inverness).

Right enaff, right enaff, right enaff Right enaff, right enaff, righty naa-aaff Right enaff, right enaff, right enaff Right enaff! Right ee-naaaff! is a personal favourite. I particularly enjoy the baffled looks on the faces of central belt fans. Imrie was a live wire but, as others have said on here, I'd rather have Johnny Hayes playing for us and we've not lost since Dougie left. Don't forget, to win his Sportsound award, he only had to be better than the other Hamilton players (and their opponents) in a selection of games last season. I'm optimistic that we'll have 11 players who would regularly quality by those criteria every week next term!

Well done everyone, especially Terry and Mo for putting together a great team and giving them the belief that they could win this league. At East End Park on the first day of the season, we all sang "we're going up", but I'm not sure we believed it. (We also sang "we all love cox" and I'm not sure we believed that, either!) But over the months and in the face of a lot of disappointments, the players and the management team showed their strength of character and formed themselves into a powerful unit.
