  1. Anybody actually going to the European game ?
  2. Is anyone actually surprised at the costs ? These are companies looking to make a quick buck. I am sure that the club may have considered putting into the money box but we are in debt. And there would probably be equal vitriol if club funds were utilised. At the end of the day the blame lies with the SFA.
  3. I am dun gan on about this and would wish for a swift conclusion - there are more important things to discuss
  4. Do teams from the United Kingdom compete in Europe ? Is the country of Northern Ireland situated in Continental Europe? Feckin pedant smarterses
  5. Cup Final Warm-Up The Caley Jags have made a hastily arranged Cup Final warm-up ahead of the Celtic meeting as we have time to kill before the Scottish Cup Final. It's off to County Tyrone in Northern Ireland to face Dungannon Swifts. Who I hear you ask? Well, they are a Northern Irish, semi-professional football club playing in the NIFL Premiership. The club, founded in 1949, has risen from the Mid-Ulster league to the top tier in Northern Ireland since its election to the Irish League First Division in 1997. Dungannon earned promotion from Irish League First Division to the Premier Division in the 2002–03 season. They are currently trying to avoid relegation. The Swifts hail from Dungannon, County Tyrone and plays their home matches at Stangmore Park. Club colours are royal blue with white trim (home strip) and yellow with a red trim (away strip). Well would you feckin "Adam and Eve" it - Inverness Caley Jags are back in Europe - albeit in a highly unlikely and unexpected friendly in Northern Ireland. On Saturday 20th May, two weeks prior to the biggest game in the clubs history, we run out onto Stangmore Park in County Tyrone, approximately 40 miles west of Belfast, to gain much needed game playing time but probably not in front of a potential 3K capacity crowd. So WHY Dungannon Swifts do you ask? Probable reasons are that there were no other takers and that Dungannon are in a similar conundrum as ourselves. They are also running very late in their season with nobody to play!! They have just managed to attract Ballymacash Rangers but were defeated 3-2 although their goals by Cahal McGinty (where do I know that name from?) and Sam Anderson were extolled. We must be a bigger outfit as we have to pay £5 a head entrance fee whereas they only charged £3 for Ballymacash. If you think that the SFL are inept - then just look at the situation with the NIFL and Warrenpoint Town. Due to the legal processes Swifts had been lying idle since beating Newry City in their final game of the season on April 29th, following on from beating Portadown 3-2 in a massive relegation game the previous week. Those wins should have set up the Swifts to take on Warrenpoint Town in a two legged Premiership Promotion / Relegation tie in early May. But the NIFL refused to grant a license for Warrenpoint to play in the Premiership in the 2023/24 season. But - of course - there is a lengthy appeals procedure and - you got it - Warrenpoint appealed!! Warrenpoint admitted to an unpaid tax bill and repaid it. But the NIFL proceeded. There was even a suggestion that Annagh United should replace Warrenpoint but that was also appealed against. Anyway to cut a long story short the proposed new dates for the Swifts and Town to go into battle are Tuesday May 30th and Saturday June 3rd (why does that date mean something?). BUT that is only a possibility and it may go on for longer!! And what about the history of Dungannon Swifts - well they have been in Europe twice. In the UEFA Cup in 2007/8 they went out to the famed Sudova Marijampole of Lithuania. They fared the same in the Intertoto Cup (remember that one!!) when they were beaten by the equally renowned Knattspyrnudeild Keflavik of Iceland. Anyway the Swifts are managed by an old foe of ours - Dean Sheils of the Hibees, Sevco, Pars and Killie fame. Many will remember that he joined in some friendly banter with our own support. They do have two Jocks in their squad - a front man called Joe Moore and Darren Cole. Darren however was on loan from Glentoran and may now be on his hols. I am reliably informed that men to look out for are the defender Mayoma Aminashasun and another front man - Marc Welsh. Here's a Caley Jag mug on the road to Hampden But this "find" only highlights how difficult it can be to arrange games at this time of the season. As the Swifts chairman - Keith Boyd - stated "We have players on holiday and others are going in the next few weeks". It is all very well getting together on a regular basis, maintaining and improving fitness levels, trying out new tactics, systems and ploys but having a competitive opposition is a major requirement. This may well be our last chance before the Cup Final!! So surely our starting X1 at Dungannon will be the starting X1 for the Cup Final? Or will Dodds try to fool the watching Celtic scouts? Will the second half be a substitute galore affair? Will both sides be instructed to 'go easy on each other'? And what about the expense? Presumably the Costa del Tyronne journey will replace any Costa del Sol planning? Will we have another one or two "proper" run outs next week? Surely we could attract and rustle up a Highland League Select or even a local Junior Select? Only time will tell. My good self, like many others, would probably have been travelling with more notice. A weekend in Northern Ireland is a tasty dish. But there are some going and may I take the opportunity of suggesting a visit to Feenys or McAleers. Have a swift "doddsie" for me please, cheers.
  6. Buy a ticket for a jeggie - have you lost the plot ?
  7. There will be more Glentoran fans than ICT !!
  8. Just keep the kids away from my voddies. What a pity we have to go early to watch the football!!
  9. There will be sufficient cameras zooming in on us if we win the feckin thing
  10. 70 feckin miles an hour down Killiecrankie - GO YOMPA
  11. By urinating on them - reference to the seats of course.
  12. Changed days ??!! Would have taken the family down the Ferry to the pub in the 60's and 70's
  13. What about Aberdeen ? Or Clachnacuddin ?
  14. I found myself supping vodka cocktails watching the squad training in the Spanish sun in the Costa del Dodds region - sponsored by Tulloch Beach Properties where the gittes are looked after by the Gardener. Well better spending it on a feckin concert !!
  15. I am afraid that the first contract to be discussed and decided will be the one currently held by Billy Dodds. That puts us in a real quandary. I suspect that Dodds has learned from this season but I cant see him changing the system that he has stuck to. I am afraid that most coaching schools and many teams, of varied skill and ability, advocate the play it out from the back, tippy-tappy crab like system and hoof if in trouble. I dislike it and yearn for somebody to shake the norm and adapt a more Pele Paterson style of play. I was hoping that Dodds and Robbo would stand aside but that is NOT going to happen. However it will tell us a lot about the dressing room if or when Dodds staying is announced and see who jumps ship and who stays. Deas and Allardyce are almost certain to leave. A lot will depend on the loan purchases and I also yearn for a target player up front and a return to our previously successful pairings of target man and pacy sidekick. I also hope that if any managerial contracts are being carried out then it is for the season and review and the supporting muppets are culled (I am not referring to Grassa ). Can see a number of short term (3 month contracts) may be offered but acceptance would suggest that those involved are signing for the Cup Final only.
  16. Bet there would be more entries than seats in the North Stand
  17. Great - I will have to begin training on Market Street (Chorley) asap
  18. Afraid that Dodds is in a no win situation as armchair managers all have their own visions and views. I dont think that Carson is a full/wing back and he is more effective in the middle of the park. Danny MacKay would not be my choice but he was MOM in the semi final so why bench him. Doran to me has become a last 20-30 minute substitute. Dodds was right to consider hooking people early doors but I suspect that he may have been worried about the vitriol that would have incurred. I thought that his post match interview was acceptable and that he did take a degree of the blame. Anyway answer my questions with an honest yes or no - based on before the match started. The bottom line surely must lie with another question - IF YOU were Billy Dodds would you be staying ?? My response would be "no feckin way". But it is not just Dodds that needs to go and some of the others will stay blaming him.
  19. Time to pose another few questions ? Should we get rid of Dodds before the Cup Final ? Is missing out on the play offs more of a positive than a negative ? Would we have been totally fecked if we were to progress in the play offs ? What can we do in the next few weeks to prepare ? Now Dodds - IMHO - provided quite an encouraging response to the last question - we take a whole week off to recuperate. We then get together like a training camp - work on fitness, work on team building and work on how to take on Celtic and start the final with a clear plan. And most importantly - Are we organising a pub for either pre or post Cup Final - or both ???
  20. I am going to stick by Dodds in starting the same 11 as the cup semi-final. Can I pose some important questions - Did we "hoof" the ball to wee Billy anymore than we did at Hampden ? I note that Allardice had an off day - has he not been the rock in the midfield ? was his form a big negative last night ? Welsh was struggling at the end of the Hamilton and Hampden games ? How did he look last night ? Would you have started Carson in midfield in preference to either Allardice and Welsh ? Would starting Carson at right back been more effective / Would that have been fair on either Duffy or Harper ? I agree that Shaw is a more effective winger but would you have dropped either Danny MacKay or Henderson to start Shaw in that decision ? SO was it the formation or was it the players who failed - or both ? Were the changes made in the second half positive and understandable ? Would you have kicked off if you had been heckled ? Was that not borne out of the same disappointment and frustration as felt in the stands ? Does this defeat wipe out the performances and results achieved in the last couple of months ? If somebody said to you in February that we would be in with a play off chance in the last game of the season would you have laughed ? Would you have believed that we would be in the Scottish Cup Final and playing Celtic ? Now I do think that Robbo and Dodds need to go and we need a manager with a different style and approach. That may be the only way that we keep some of the current squad and attract newbies. Jettisoning Scott Gardner does not make any sense but does he have the tackle to jettison Dodds and Robbo. Simply offer them a lesser contract and refuse BBC release.
  21. I will start off with - How the feck do you start off without the original starters from the Semi Final - we have been employing the tippy tappy from the back for most of the season which the large majority of teams also employ - I dont like it and would prefer the Pele approach - but that sadly is in the past. It was unfortunately a game too far = I suspect Allardice and especially Welsh were knackered. And to end with - I actually think that a month off could be to our advantage. We would have been on our knees if we got through the play offs. This could still end up as the seasons of all seasons. And now a lot of things can be sorted out behind the scenes. And lets just pause to reflect on what we have accomplished in the last couple of months. I now would suggest that Dodds and Robbo have their swansongs at the top, at Hampden - bow out and let some new blood in at the helm.
  22. To take some of the pressure off Old Caley Girl
