Has the club been dishonest? I'd think carefully before jumping to conclusions. During any contract negotiation it is wise to keep the negotiation out of the press. Unless you are the subject or the interviewer or a witness to said interview then I would suggest a bit of decorum. ok I have been in that that position and I would question the clubs honesty in such positions

No, you clearly stated in your opening line that your report was an insight into what has been happening. In other words, your were citing the information as fact and not simply an account of any discussion you might have had with the DoF. The information contained therein is in direct conflict with what Ian Black said in the press...so you are in effect calling him a liar. 1) Charles Bannerman is not the BBC although he does work for them part time. He is as entitled to voice his own opinion here as we are although in this case he hasn't. 2) This forum is not operated by or controlled by the BBC. I see no evidence of ongoing bad feeling, only a much more mature Ian on the park. This, I feel, is one reason he will go to a good home, thanks in a way to Brew and the way he treated him! I feel that there is little any employer can do if the employee is looking for a better paid post and has the right to leave with easy money in his pocket. All the offers, it would appear, were made at the start of the season - although CaleyD has a bit of a doubt if the DOF is telling porkies with this one as Ian has gone to print stating the opposite. Now, wait a wee while till I think? Is that the Ian that is looking for column inches to advertise his freedom to move, surely he has no need to go to the press and tell porkies, has he? He does not want his position highlighted in any way and I feel sure his agent will have warned him to keep a low profile in case any big club notices his availability, without any big fee being involved!! He and agent don't want that do they? Spin, his agent has possibly forgotten more spin than ICT has ever learned! Start of season too late for offers?? Maybe. You're absolutely right 5th Stand lets not talk about anything ever again since it's never the fans responsibility to deal with the issues... I believe Vigurs to be a similar player to Black, albeit a slightly more attacking player. Wilsons direct replacement would be Zander. I'm not fussed about losing Fraser - Face it, we could replace him quite easily. Leaving Cowie, who would indeed be the most difficult to replace. Vigurs while looks like he is going to be a great player has not had enough games to say whether he is ready to fill blacks boots and if he is injured or suspended who is going to fill in for him Nobody has seen enough of Zander in the SPL to say if he can make it at that level I think Fraser is young and can turn into a good keeper I think he is worth hanging onto.

Alex the players did cost us nothing but have developed into something worse considerably more than nothing now. Do you honestly think that if 2 off our biggest assets leave for nothing we are not losing out?

The BIG difference in this scenario is that Black & Cowie will actually be coveted by other clubs. The players hold all the cards now. They just have to wait a few weeks and see what offers come there way. Certainly in the case of Black things might have been different if we'd offered him a long term contract in the summer. Too late now of course!! Nothing we can do now other than to keep our fingers crossed. If we lose both of them we are in serious trouble. Yes serious trouble, we will probably never know if the contract talks had been held earlier would it have been possible to hold onto Black, maybe not. I think most have known for a couple of seasons that black was a big player for this club and with the potential to be a great player which he has now turned into. should the club have tied to tie him up to a long term deal then, probably yes just like they are trying to do with Vigurs now. I really fear for us if we lose 1 of these players never mind the 2 of them.

To three significant figures, 12th man is actually spot on. At 17.5% VAT, the price is 117.5% of the pre tax purchase price. When VAT drops to 15% it becomes 115%.The new price is therefore 115/117.5 of the old one. That equates to 97.87% - a saving therefore of (100 - 97.87) = 2.13% which is exactly as 12th man stated. The days of him being a 90 minute player who could impact a game at any point are indeed well behind him but to call him a "passenger" is short sighted IMHO. He can still impact a game if used tactically. Put him on for the first 60 minutes of a game and make a planned substitution when its time for him to come off, or put him on for the last 30 in another planned substitution. Off the park, he is the sort of player - with or without coaching badges - who should be able to help, inspire, and give his experience to younger players such as Zander or Dougie. dont underestimate the mentorship role he could play. :018: :thumb04: bang on!!
