We have two very capable and experienced keepers in Esson and Brill who will doubtless be keeping the younger lads right....so no panic, IMO.

HARTLEY FOR COUNTY? WHERE DID IT GO WRONG?
CaleyD replied to CELTIC1CALEY3's topic in General Football
I think it's the reason County are losing these players...some of them outside the transfer window and some of them leaving without other deals secured during the window...that should be of most concern. The last time we took in players during the January window due to current squad not being good enough was the year we sacked Brewster. All other short term January signings have been to cover injuries/suspensions. Failing to sign sufficient quality at the start of the season and then having to spend heavily in the January window is not a policy...it's digging yourself out of the mire. Can't imagine those signing the cheques and running up County's debt will tolerate that, or have it tolerated by the fans, for much longer. -
If he didn't relocate, then it would have been a fair drive back and forth!

St Mirren have improved greatly from our game against them in August and it was clear that the plan in the first half was to throw everything at us on the break to try and get an early/first half goal. We defended well without the need or desire to throw everyone behind the ball and were still creating opportunities for ourself at the other end. As St Mirren decided to lose their legs a bit towards the end of the first half we enjoyed the best of the last 10 to 15 minutes...and that continued in the second half where St Mirrens fast forays forward were much reduced in number. Ryan Esson's heart must sink every time Brill plays as he was outstanding yesterday and, despite the pressure at times, remained fully composed and did nothing to cause the players to lose confidence in him. A few of the guys looked like they were trying a bit too hard and looking for the perfect shooting opportunity...but que sera. They'll settle under Hughes now and get back to their usual selves. Marley Watkins gets more and more exciting every time I see him play and despite initially giving Dean Brill my MotM, I've changed my mind. The lad is an absolute joy to watch with the ball at his feet and his strength on the ball and ability/determination to win it back on the odd occasion he does lose it is second to none within the squad. I'm not normally an advocate of extra long term deals, but we should be offering Marley at least 5 years.

I did say "available" (twice). He crossed himself off the list before it was even drawn up.

I can 100% confirm that Levein and Hartley were willing to come in on a joint managerial roll but we turned them down because Hughes was willing to take the job on £50 a week. Wonder how many people miss the sarcasm?
-
I can agree with you on that one

So, by your logic, the people in the middle weren't really in the middle...they were mostly people leaning towards the negative but have now come to terms with the Hughes appointment? You do realise how ridiculous that sounds, right! I was at neither extreme prior to the appointment and would have been happy with quite a few of those who were suggested to have been in the running. Did we get the best available? On the basis that we only offered the job to one person and they accepted, then yeah, I trust that Kenny Cameron and the board appointed the best person available....and that makes me very happy.

I must have missed the part of the question on that poll which asked for strength of feeling in regards to who people wanted. It's also very dangerous to assume that just because someone gives a preference means they aren't/wouldn't be content with an alternative. I'd suggest "The Hughes Poll" where 77%+ of those who voted for a neutral/positive option is more telling of the wider view of the fans....even allowing for the fact that it will be skewed by people with a perceived grievance in regards his appointment who are far more likely to express a view/opinion on it (fact of life).
-
I disagree. I think the largest majority of people didn't really have any strong feelings one way or the other in regards to John Hughes (or any other manager) and were happy enough to place faith that Kenny Cameron and the board are the ones best placed to know who would be the best appointment. This forum has over 2600 active members and you can pretty much count on the fingers of both hands the number who were/are vehemently against the appointment. They are as entitled to their thoughts and opinions as everyone else...but just because they choose to post the same thing over and over does not (should not) mean they are any more significant than the thoughts and opinions of everyone else, even those who have chosen not to post on the subject. Two things of note.... 1. Many of the dissenters have only really become active posters again in the last few weeks. 2. The number of dissenters is not only a minority, it is largely insignificant.

I can confirm that it's not me...something to do with a lack of fabric at Errea.

Richie Foran and the players don't appear to have any concerns....quite the opposite... And a few words from the Chairman as well...

Just that no other team could ever afford to. The same as no other team would ever be invited to play in a 'glamour friendly'. These rules are only in place for the good of the OF. Rules were agreed by all clubs....if others didn't want it, then they could have rejected the proposal.

SPFL rules allow any team to postpone games and take a winter break during the first fortnight in January.

In my opinion, need to get a manager in this week. While we have won 3 without a manager, Duncan Shearer looks a forlorn figure on the touchline and if things go wrong during a match, which they haven't yet, I think he would struggle to react to what is required. No critisim of Shearer but his body language indicates to me he wants out of this role as soon as possible. You don't need to watch his body language....he's openly admitted it in interview

hmm! I know people who broadcast their own radio shows with Winamp, a mic & Itunes! They don't seem to have any problems with bandwidth etc. The Glensound boxes are a nice piece of kit. Try Moray Firth or BBC Highland. They have kit like that lying about! I'm sure there is a cheaper solutions out there Caley D If a cup is full, you can't add any more to it...no matter how small that amount might be. I'm not just making up excuses for the sake of it...if there was a practical, reliable, affordable way to be doing our own commentary then I'd be all over it.
-
Definitely keep the ideas and suggestions coming...you never know when an idea that's not been thought of elsewhere might just spark something. What we won't do is something half-assed. Not only does that just lead to frustration from the viewer/listeners end, it annoys those trying to provide the service and risks driving them away as well. As soon as we can do something reliably, we'll be on it.
-
Absolutely, it will be the next step in the progression of CaleyJagsTV.com - but likely that it will be home matches only and not available until fiber is installed in the area around the stadium...which they keep pushing the date back on!!! Don't be expecting it for £4 a month though
-
As I said in my previous post....there's simply not enough upstream to cope with what we need at the moment, far less adding more. In regards the phone app solution....try using your 3G connection at a stadium around HT or FT and you could struggle. So much so that even wireless phone dongles connected to a laptop are all but useless at these times. I've never seen any journalist or reporter (BBC or otherwise) even attempting to use these things. All of them use the Glensound boxes...even those not live on air and only providing updates will do so using them.
-
There's insufficient upstream to cope reliably with what's needed at present...so sticking anything else on to the broadband is not an option. If it was, then a couple of headsets, a mixer and a laptop would be all that's needed and we'd be doing it by now. However, it's not just our stadium we need to set up for, we also need to set up for away games and wifi/internet is not offered to press at some places. The only all round.reliable solution would be the use of a Glensound Broadcaster/Commentator Box (or similar) with a Dual Codec...and they're not cheap, even second hand...starting at around £2000+vat. Suitable headsets start at around £150+vat. Add in cables, spares, carry cases and you're easily beyond £3000.

For the first penalty, Reid was booked for his challenge on Draper. I thought it was a stonewaller...and if the one TV camera there missed it, then we had 4 cameras of our own and will have caught it.

Their deal is up the end of this season, whereas MP & Silva have the rights for the next 10 years (is them who brokered the China deal). Looks like this season is the transition and MP & Silva appear eager to actively use/market their rights a bit more than Sportfive were...certainly latterly.
