Now we are getting in to dangerous territory....the problem with using deductive reasoning in an axiomatic system is that the "proof" is only as good as the axioms with which it is started. As Infinity is, by definition, without bounds, then it cannot be assigned a value which makes it pretty useless as an axiom when it comes to proving the value or relationship between other numbers.

A wee bonus from Gordon Gillespie at NorthSport - a collection of pics from the Reserves Match - Clicky Clicky Great Day For a Picnic [img width=500 height=311]http://www.caleythistleonline.com/gallery/albums/upload/match_pics/2007_08/20080219_rsrvs_celtic_gg/20080219_rsrvs_celtic_gg_006.jpg

I can't see the club going in to administration as I understand that all credit and contracts are owned and underwritten by Mileson and not the club. However, Gretna could very easily find themselves in a situation where they have no means with which to pay players and no means with which to pay rent to Motherwell.....and no bank in their right mind is going to be lending them money. Motherwell would not be taking much of a gamble in allowing Gretna to continue there, they would just have to wait until the situation with Milesons health is resolved and he either writes him a cheque or the Trustees of his estate write them a cheque. For the players and staff it's a whole different ball game as many are unlikely to be willing or able to wait any length of time for payment. As others have said, Gretna was very unlikely to ever become "self sustaining", certainly not at SPL level, but I never envisaged that the threat of their demise would be presented to them in this fashion and always saw it as a drop back through the leagues as opposed to them being snuffed out overnight. If nothing else it serves as a warning to other clubs that being bankrolled by a wealthy individual is not all it is cracked up to be, and it also highlights just how bad things could get for some of the larger teams that sail in similar ships (Hearts, Chelsea) should things go pear-shaped for their owners. No real football fan wants to see any club go out of existence and not only do I hope that Mileson pulls through, but I hope that Gretna can get things sorted and see out the season and many seasons to come at whatever level they find themselves capable of competing at.

If memory serves me right then I think Alan Savage was in favour of the Intertoto, or gave the impression that he thought it was something we should be seriously looking at. I believe we would have been looking at it last year but it was CC that put a stop to it as he was working with some group of sports scientists and had a very set pre-season plan in place which would have been scuppered by involvement in the competition. I don't know enough about fitness and preparations for the season etc to say whether or not it is a good or bad idea from a training point of view, but that's for Brewster and the Coaching staff to worry about. For me, as a fan, I would relish the idea of a bit of pre-season competition against someone other than Peterhead, Clach and C*unty.......that's just getting so feckin boring and has barely changed since the club was formed, whether it is the Intertoto or something else, we could do with a change, something to challenge the players a bit more and something to get (even a little) excited about. It's the one time of the year when the club have the ability to offer us something different from the monotony that is playing the same teams 3/4 times a year in the SPL and it should be grabbed with both hands.

3rd best player on the park on Saturday behind Imrie and Grant "I own De Vries" Munro

More likely to join C*unty to stay in the area than to up sticks and leave for the central belt IMO.

You've got a year or 30 on me Charles (ok, maybe only 25)....but those are all things that I remember from being a kid growing up in St Valery Ave as well. Apples and Plums which had been liberated from the manse always seemed to taste much better than those acquired by more honest means. The most trouble we ever really got into was kids was for playing postmans knock or pinching the wheel of someones bike and climbing the lamppost to hook it over the top and make it near impossible for them to retrieve (one or two gates got similar treatment). Around about bonefire night we'd have our fire at one end of the street and the kids at the other had theirs....everyone who had windows overlooking the back fields would take shifts to keep an eye on it overnight to make sure nobody from the other end of the road came to set fire to it before bonefire night. Rope swings were another thing that kept us amused for hours, and resulted in the odd adventure up to casualty. We'd venture in to the cemetery now and again so we could pretend we were mountaineer's and climb to the top or to dare each other to see who would stand on the fairy ring for the longest, We'd make our own bow and arrow sets, but the thought of firing them at each other wasn't the plan (although I did put a homemade spear through my brothers hand once), we were going to hunt the pheasant that live out the back or hopefully stumble upon a rabbit.....none of which we ever managed to shoot....and the odd duck got terrorised. My generation seemed to be the last to partake of these things to any great extent, but the next batch of Johnstones are on their way and we have been known to partake of the odd game of rounders during a BBQ and after the consumption of a dram or two. I remember 15+ years ago being on holiday at my Aunts in Bristol...they live in St Annes Park and we always used to walk to some Social Club which seemed miles away as a kid. On the way we passed through a park and on this one occasion we spent over an hour playing football (adults and kids).....without a ball.....we just imagined we had one. My Uncle chased my mother for a tackle, but they got a bit close to the edge of the pitch and both of them took a tumble down the slope on to the footpath....they must have lay there for about 15 minutes laughing so hard they couldn't get up. If that happened today people passing by would give you a body swerve, but back then all I recall was the laughter becoming infectious and us recruiting an extra couple of players for the game. I think part of the trouble these days is that we don't have "communities" in the same sense as we used too. People don't seem to take the same time to get to know neighbours and the kids seem more intent on knocking lumps out of each other than they do in getting together to do something as a group. You'd never see anyone in St Valery Ave these days heading out with a ball or a bat & ball and knocking on the neighbours door to see if they were up for a game (kids or adults) and even the kids you do see out playing now seem to stick to their own wee groups instead of all playing together. Society seems to be (has become) very insular for whatever reason.

It seems like forever since ICT have had a result to really give the fans something to shout about. No doubt this is in part due to our progress and fewer "big" games, even when it comes to cup matches. ICT have made some really big headlines over the years and it would be fitting if our next one was our first win over Aberdeen and a secured top 6 finish as a result. We have a habit of putting together wee runs of wins or losses and we should be travelling to Motherwell with nothing less than a win in mind in order to kick start another run of good results. Drawing games isn't a disaster, but expectations for ICT are lower among other teams and if we can get our nose in front of Aberdeen, Hibs and Falkirk then I feel the pressure will be more on them than it is on us as we approach the split. We seem to have had a season of nit-picking by fans...not entirely unjustified, but it's time to set that aside and divert our energy into getting behind the team and doing our part to help push them towards the finish line.

Neither did we, and you are a Moderator and must therefore be much higher in the importantance stakes than mere mortals. So probably not a chance for us then. I wonder now when I think back to this afternoon there was a youngish looking man with a clipboard in the North Stand perhaps it was him I can assure you that people do not gain any "importance" with the club as a result of being a moderator on here :015:

Not true....you can multiply by zero....it's just that the answer always comes out as zero.

I wasn't defending Black or saying he shouldn't have been booked, but both players jumped in two-footed....how you can book one for that and not the other is what I'm saying.

The game was looking bad enough without the referee compounding the issue. I left today wondering if he actually realises that it's a foul to use your hand or arm to control the ball, I stopped counting after he refused the 4th stonewall claim for a handball. Other than the handballs, their was a challenge involving Black (where he got booked) where both players dived in to challenge for the loose ball. Both players lunged at the ball in identical fashion and both were guilty of having the studs up, yet the referee gave Black a dressing down and a yellow card whilst the Utd player walked away without even so much as getting a look from the ref. It should have been a yellow for both. He also "missed" our penalty claim when the Utd defender had both arms under Niculae's and wrapped around him holding him when the ball was played through to his feet about 12 yards out...it wasn't like it was a tug on the shirt and he missed it, it was a full blown bear hug FFS :015:

Not feeling defensive (don't think there's anything to defend :001: ). It's all down to progress/evolution of the site which has been brought about by the progress/evolution of the club and the team. However, we (Scotty and I) also realise that these things need to be "managed", for want of a better description, and that we don't always get it right. That's why if people have ideas and suggestions they should feel free to raise them and we will address them and, where practical, tweak things. One example is the lads in Section G who asked for a place where they could talk about their stuff away from the main forum. We were only too happy to oblige as it's not something everyone is interested in and it doesn't have to be talked about in the main part of the forum where other things get lost among their chat and their chat gets lost among other things. That's not an option for every little thing, but it may be that we are missing something in that regard and if so, then we are only too happy for people to be pointing it out. -

I think Naelifts has hit the nail on the head. The only people who can make the site what they want it to be are the people who use it. If people have ideas for changes that they think will help improve the setup then we are all ears. -
I find that quite hard to believe as I know Wyness is well settled up here, as are his wife and kids, and I don't believe he would want to move and would fight it out till the last to get a new contract.

Not the best of games apart from the last 10 mins. First 45...we were poor, they were worse. Second 45....we got off to a positive start but seemed to be afraid to have a go at the goal and insisted on trying to walk everything in. Lost the goal against the run of play and it would have been an injustice if the game had ended with a loss. Marcus found himself in the right place at the right time and the ball fell to his feet and he had little to do but put it away. We squandered far too many opportunities today and the team seemed to be afraid to push forward. No point playing 5 across the middle when they're sitting on the toes of the back 4. Imrie.....what a signing, he would have got my MotM. Chases everything, not afraid to run at defenders (even ones twice his size), solid in the tackle and doesn't give up possession easily either. Duncan + McBain....our weak links today I'm afraid. Far too often they wanted to play the ball backwards instead of pushing forward. On a couple of occasions Niculae found himself in space up front only to see McBain pass it the other way and I think Duncan passed the ball back to the defence more often then he played it forward or even sideways. Niculae was crying out for someone to play off of up front in this match but got very little support from the midfield, and then when we do decide to take on another forward it's a straight swap and doesn't do anything to improve the situation. As for the decision to hook Black for Marcus.....totally baffling, as I said, Duncan and McBain were crying out to be hooked, so to take off Black who was having a decent enough game and move McBain inside to accommodate Paatelinien when he was having a bit of a mare just didn't make any sense whatsoever. A draw was probably a fair enough result over the 90 minute4s, but I thought we looked capable of snatching the win in the last 10 minutes....if only we had stepped up the pace with 20 minutes to go instead then we might have come away with the 3 points.

As a player, I like Hart. He offers a lot from the midfield and played a big part in getting us where we are today. However, there's little room for sentiment in football these days and we have other players who now offer what he did/does and there's little doubt we needed to slim down our midfield. Off-field antics aside, Hart hasn't done much in the last couple of the seasons, partly due to injury and partly due to other players keeping him out of the team, and for that reason alone it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep him on the books. His involvement with drugs last year is an easy "excuse" for people to throw about as the reason we are letting him go. I don't deny that it is possible, or indeed likely, that it influenced the decision, but the truth of the matter is that this team is moving forward and that is going to bring casualties among the guys who have been there a long time and been committed to the club....that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes and we can't afford to be keeping players on the books just because they've served us well in the past - What we need are players who will serve us well now and in the future.

I think the problem is that their was no "project" behind the scheme. Normally when people do a 'buy-a-brick' it's because they are going to build something and the bricks are included in that building so people can say "I helped pay for that" and it gives the purchase some meaning/feeling of ownership/belonging. It's a good idea, it's just about 14 years too late. However, I do look forward to buying a brick for the new stadium when we move in about 5 years or so :004:

I'm guessing....tear gas, rubber bullets and dogs with big teeth!!!

I know, I just have zero tolerance for all the BS and buck passing that goes on. If as much effort was put into working with people instead of trying to blame others then we'd all be far better off for it.

So much for the line that "Police only get involved at a match if a crime is committed".....they are happy to step in and remove a pole from a flag, but should an away fan in the home end choose to cause a disruption then they aren't in the slightest bit interested....when are some people going to realise that the fans aren't stupid.
