  2. Quite remarkable result, but, was up at Fairways hitting a few balls and went into the bar to watch the second half, not a soul was watching or giving toss what was going on, sad sign of the times :-(

  5. Jeezo, ya have to be careful wi yer terminology roond these parts eh?..... "a sense of loyalty, bred into me from an early age" To answer yer question Charles, i never bought into the whole "never had a chance to prepare" "didn't know till the week before" excuses being trotted out.As supporters we discussed in the last 6 games of last season with County disappearing into the sunset the need to stay focused and play for second as there was a VERY good chance this could prove massive as things were unfolding,if we could see this with no info,I'm sure those with connections and nods and winks kent a whole lot more!! Early season we struggled but it quickly became apparent Barry was showing undue loyalty to underachievers and good guy's like Matt Lockwood who were clearly out of their depth. We were unlucky with injuries but managed to hang onto St Mirren's coat tails, the turning point being in Paisley with Colin Nish getting sent off and losing a game we could have won to go equal on points. At this point it was obvious if we could start scoring goals we had a decent chance of competing and staying up. Gary Harkins was brought in which was a tremendous signing but extending 2 goal Colin Nish's contract and several other baffling signings during the January window, while County and St Mirren made very astute and ultimately match winning signings which saw County into the top six and St Mirren win their first trophy in 25 years showed up Barry's naiveté and the boards incompetence. IMHO our CEO has spent far too much time and energy championing the reconstruction process and i feel had put all his eggs into this basket and not focusing on staying up as "things were changing" Brown has proved that the squad are capable of results, but all, sadly for us, a little too late. The timing of Barry's dismissal and manner of Browns appointment were also shocking but there's no arguing Broons getting results since his appointment. All in all a great opportunity squandered in my opinion
  6. Your quite right Kingsmills,I hadn't forgotten, and when the inevitable becomes mathematical,I will drop in a chq for ICT youth development to LG at the TCS. :-)
  7. Been arguing since I was a youth with anyone who would listen,Scottish football would be a far better, more entertaining product with both the larger Glasgow teams out of the picture. The one statement of Agent N I totally agree with is " Football needs competition to survive" I also believe supporters need hope to keep them returning. When I started following Scottish football, Celtic and Rangers were dominant, but did not have a complete monopoly on championships, however, since 1985,(nearly 30 years!! ) no one outside these 2 has had a look in,with all other teams scrapping for crumbs from the top table with the odd cup win or one round jaunt into obscure European terroritory the prize for hanging on closest to their coat tails! Competition???? As Joe Royle would say, My ......!!!! The interest this season has been seeing ICT and (sorry) County grasping the opperchancity and really going for it with a belief and confidence that they are where they are on merit, and yes, that was a breath of fresh air, also the pecking order throughout the game,(with the exception of Celtic) has changed big time, and any other season, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen would now be involved in a relegation scrap had we not so gloriously squandered our golden ticket out of first division obscurity :-( I truly am disillusioned and dismayed with the state of the professional football set up in Scotland, the charlatans, cheats and self interested money men who control and manipute our game to the ruination of all have scunnered me and only an inbred sense of loyalty towards friends and club keep me returning at all,but even this gets tested more and more with every passing season.
  8. You are not a bigot because you wave the Union Flag. Millions of Brits died for that flag over two world wars including many Scots. Have some respect. Not how i read that Laurence, Kingmills said they were bigots who waved Union flags, not they were bigots BECAUSE they waved Union flags.
  9. I'm afraid you have been taken in by some crab propaganda. The Vulcan assault was a minor irritation to the Argentinians and was quickly dealt with. It had little actual bearing on the conduct or outcome of the war. The RAF is well aware that this conflict was won by the combined efforts of the Navy and Army and now that 25 years have passed they are using this one very expensive and ultimately inconsequential action as a sad attempt to make themselves look relevant. They were (and should remain) embarrassed that the most memorable conflict since WWII involving ONLY UK forces against a belligerent enemy attacking British soil was beyond their effective capability. Silly me, I though the fact that the Argie's Mirage fighters couldn't use the runway to land saved a lot of British service personnel's lives (Naval and Marines). The Mirage squadrans were withdrawn following the bombing of the runway, short runways are okay for take off but not for landing. This is why I said "paved the way", the Argentines were shocked that the Air Force could reach them from the UK. As an Ex "crab" who was there at the time, i was gonna let FoolPhysio's wee dig slip by, as by and large he is correct in that the Army and Navy were by far the greatest contributors to the outcome, that was the nature of the conflict. Also, the actual cost to result ratio of the Black Buck projects were pretty unjustifiable in hindsight (great thing), there may even have been some truth that the RAF were trying to justify their existence to prevent further cuts. That said, it was a fantastic logistical operation and whilst not causing huge damage, it set them back far enough as you say,so fighters went back to the mainland and gave them food for thought as to what we were actually capable of. There were also a squadron of Harriers which the Navy glossed over and took credit for all Harrier sorties as they were flying from the Hermes, and the Chinooks,Bravo November from 18 squadron,as the sole survivor from the Atlantic Conveyor, was flying virtually round the clock ferrying troops and supplies until back up from 7 squadron arrived. Decent Wiki appraisal of it here....... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Black_Buck
  10. Any one ahead of woods at the end has won it, but at 3/1 he's a waste of a bet
  11. Nowaday's, i'm pretty much what Scotty refers to as apolitical, having total disdain and little trust for politicians of all hue's. Back in the day,I admired Margret Thatcher ( you don't hear that from many Dundonians!) for having the ball's to confront problems that seemed insurmountable and taking a hard line when required. She solved many of the ills of the time but slowly began to believe in her own infallibility and the third term was probably one too far. My own experience of the intransigence of the unions of the time was the de-markation employed in the ship yards to walk out at the drop of a hat due to some perceived indiscretion against one trade or another. Our wee RAF S&R launch was in Rosyth for re-fit and was "blacked" for 6 weeks after someone observed a serviceman painting decking boards as he was bored and passing the time. I also spent too many boring nights in my early teens playing monopoly and Cluedo by candlelight, although lights suddenly going out without warning had it's merits in certain situations!!. Over the piece, i believe this country is in a better place because of her than had she not governed, but there was certainly much to kick against for many, although a lot of history has been re-written both Pro and Anti.
  12. Justin Rose or Phil Mickleson

  16. Great game to watch as a neutral, thought Hearts might just do something at the end, but pleased for St Mirren.Great to see Killie last year, now the buddies get something for their fans to cheer about. Refreshing to see and so much better than the usual suspects who take success for granted and just see cups as a point scoring exercise over each other.
  17. Sorry guy's hadn't seen the other thread on this, please feel free to merge .......
  18. football banning order? http://www1.skysports.com/news/12040/8568533/
  19. and Dundee, who scrapped for a draw against a team 25 points above them :-)
  20. Match report from Dee perspective for any interested......... Dundee's improved form continued with an entertaining 1-1 draw with Inverness Caley Thistle at Dens Park this afternoon. Disappointingly the Dee couldn't hold on after John Baird's early goal and Billy McKay equalised with a late header. Caley Thistle spent the first 10 minutes largely in the Dundee half without creating any real danger. It was Dundee who took the lead after 12 minutes with a well worked move. Harkins and Conroy combined cleverly on the left to create space for John BAIRD to run on and score with a sweetly struck low shot from 18 yards that flew inside Esson's right hand post. Two minutes later Nicky Riley crashed a 20 yard shot just too high when the ball broke to him after a corner. Any thoughts that Caley Thistle might allow Dundee an easy ride were swiftly dispelled as the visitors came agonisingly close to equalising. First, Douglas failed to reach a corner and Warren's header was kept out by Irvine, who managed to turn the ball onto the crossbar. Lewis Toshney scrambled the ball away when it dropped onto the goal-line. Next Andrew Shinnie turned neatly and smashed a 20 yard shot over Douglas and off the crossbar. Caley Thistle might have been menacing in attack, but their defence continually lost shape and concentration when they were coming forward. Dundee always looked capable of opening them up on the counter attack. However, it was a spell of patient passing around the visitors' penalty area that nearly brought a second goal. Riley swung a dangerous cross into the goalmouth, Baird lunged at it and Esson pulled off a remarkable reflex save at point blank range. The ball broke to Harkins, but the defence managed to crowd him out. Caley Thistle had the better of the later stages in the first half. Billy McKay managed to burrow his way into the penalty area, but the Dark Blues managed to get bodies in the way to block his first shot and follow up. A dangerous cross from Doran on the right was then turned away by Iain Davidson's fine defensive header. Another good header by Davidson nearly gave Dundee the perfect start to the second half, but Esson managed to tip his glancing effort from a corner over the bar. Dundee had their best spell of the match after half time. A series of neat moves, mostly involving Riley on the right, posed problems for the Caley Thistle defence that they struggled to deal with. The visitors were still very much in the game and looked dangerous whenever they came forward. Doran's wicked cross into the goalmouth caused near panic before the Dee defence managed to clear. That was a rare moment of consternation in the home defence in the second half. For the most part they handled the Caley Thistle attacks better than in the first half, and it was the visitors' defence who looked utterly unconvincing. They were wide open when Dundee broke out from defence, and the Dark Blues should really have punished them. Two particularly promising breaks were wasted by the Dee. Riley led a fast counter attack, but Gary Irvine's poor cross ended the attack. Another swift breakaway was spoilt when Conroy couldn't control Riley's cross. Caley Thistle came close when Douglas had to leap to his left to touch Tudor Jones accurate 20 yard shot round the post. It seemed likely that the game would see at least one more goal. Terry Butcher threw on Richie Foran to play alongside Billy McKay, with Andrew Shinnie just behind them. Caley Thistle managed to get the breakthrough before Dundee could take advantage of the visitors' undermanned midfield and unimpressive defence. They worked the ball patiently around the park in front of the Dundee defence till Graeme Shinnie found space to swing over a dangerous cross to the far post where Billy McKAY, under pressure, managed to force his header inside the post. Both sides tried to win the game in the last few minutes, but the two defences managed to see the game out without too much concern. Carl Finnigan came off the bench, replacing Gary Harkins for the last few minutes, but there was to be no dream ending. A point apiece was a very fair result over the 90 minutes. Caley Thistle could rightly point to some very good play and poor luck in the first half. However, any away team that allows the home side so much space to attack should be grateful to concede only one goal. It was certainly disappointing that Dundee couldn't hold out for all three points, but they should have sewn the game up with their counter attacks in the second half long before Caley Thistle scored. The visitors carried constant threat when they attacked, and a single goal never looked likely to be enough for the Dee. That's three league games undefeated, producing five points. John Baird has scored in each of them and is looking a far happier and more effective player with the increased confidence that the goals have brought. There was a good shape to the Dundee team today, and Caley Thistle were allowed no peace when they were in possession. When we had the ball there were plenty of pleasing moves, mainly involving Baird, Harkins, Riley and Conroy. Caley Thistle won the previous two matches between the sides 4-1 on each occasion. This was a very even match and it never looked like being a repeat of those trouncings. It might be too late to avoid relegation, but Dundee are now looking a good, competitive side, capable of playing some attractive football. That should give the Dark Blue faithful something to enjoy in last few weeks of the season. Today was no thriller, but it was a decent entertaining performance and match, which is a pleasant contrast to many of the games we've seen before this season.
