  9. Terry and co need to look at the bigger picture in Inverness. Putting aside "refusniks" as they are now pretty much irrelevant in this, the historical element of football supporters in Sneck following a HL team but having a "proper big team" will take at least 2 generations to filter out. In my own street, immediate neebors are both indigenous Invernessians, one Celtic and one Jambo, myself,a Dee in the middle and after that next 2 neebors are also incomers, one Arsenal ,one Sevco. So, out of 5 households taken at random, all with keen football supporters in them, NONE follow the local team, despite ICT currently being FAR more successful than all but one of our chosen teams. Why does Terry think we don't don our winter woolies and fork out £25 to watch ICT V Killie on a wet Wednesday night with Champions league free on telly?,because we "don't deserve it" !! No Terry, the only folk you get to with these comments are the hard core loyal troops already attending, and are more likely to alienate them than encourage us "non deservers" to attend. Supporting local football is bred in from a young age and loyalty to a club and value for money entertainment are what take supporters back time again to watch what is now massively overpriced in it's market,(not to mention the over policing and stewarding, crap catering etc) most teams are very fortunate to still be getting the numbers they do when all things are taken into consideration and clubs need to market and sell the product far better than they do currently and give fans a sense of being part of the club to induce real loyalty.Whats the answer?, Fecked if i know, but irritating the hard core you already have on board sure aint the way to do it.
  10. During my RAF day's, I used to make sure I had plenty Scottish fiver's in my wallet for my return south.I'd order rounds of beer which were poured prior to tendering my notes. "we can't tek that foreign money" the barmen would cry. My reply was along the lines of " nae bother, put the beers back in the barrels mate"........... I always got my beer.... and change!!!!!!
  11. In an ever more commercial world the front runner for the job is an Italian named Sergio Antonio Cicola, it's thought the Vatican are keen to have a Pope Cicola
  12. Fair enjoyed my afternoon down Grant Street, cheers for the heads up Charles. As you say, good atmosphere, bumped into several folk i knew but didn't realise were Clach followers.Football was surprisingly good to watch with Brora playing some good stuff but no end product to show and as you say the Clach keeper pulling off a couple of great stops. Clach probably deserved the points with the better work rate and a well taken goal but were hanging on a wee bit in the later stages. A couple of pints in the Nip Inn rounded off a new experience for me and one which i will definitely be making a more regular occurrence. Plus points.....price,atmosphere,no hassle from stewards/polis,pie and bovril hot and good value, standing at football,3.00 pm Saturday KO negative points......none C'mon the Clach!!!!
  13. Good luck ICT, hope y'all have a great day oot today,I might just sneak a wee seat on the bus to the final if things go well
  14. Not having had a semi to look forward to for some time I may just go along to this, good shout Charles
  15. Lance Armstrong should be applauded for being able to ride a bike so well on drugs. I tried it once, hit a dog and fell into the canal.
  16. i dinnae ken whit ah the bathers aboot,eh left skail at 16 and never hud any problem expressin masell and comunicating wi abod'y fae paupers to prince's.Some fowk look for a misplaced apostrophe or missed out comma but shairly the general gist can be grasped beh the reader and only someone no really wantin to ken whit yer oan aboot gets it affy wrong.Thankfully meh bairn leaves skail this year before this nonsensical curriculum for mayhem kicks in, eh kinda get the feeling cheenge for cheenges sake is the order of the day,wi dafties wanting numbers and statistics regardless of the lack of substance and real learning or understanding.Anyways, ehm aff noo as meh Latin for beginners class starts in fehv meenits.
  17. I'm in the "any change is better than no change" camp. I'm also of an age that i can remember 18 team leagues and the mind numbing non games that format throws up for the second half of the season. This suggestion seems a tad convoluted at first glance but i can see the merits and think it's certainly worth a go with a few tweaks. I can see the concern re season tickets as you don't quite know what your buying into, that said, the constant changing of fixtures (after Sat v Hibs, we don't have another Saturday KO till ICT on the 9th Mar) and late call offs with no consideration for supporters etc will ensure the continued downward spiral of ST sales, but hopefully more interesting and competitive games would see more pay at the gates.
  18. Yer correct Alex,it was a Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers, they adopted the name and has been used without malice or bigotry ever since. That said,in this PC day and age,you have to be aware how uninformed and easily offended people will perceive it's use,we had fundraising T shirts along the line of "Ehm a peh munching, beer drinking,Arab hating Dee4 life" which isn't a problem in a Lochee pub but take it out of context and having a beer further afield may bring you some unwanted attention! It's all about perception and the desire of some to be offended.
  19. Yer correct Davie, but those desperate to clamber aboard the offended bus are given the full backing of the establishment to howl at any percieved offence confident in the knowledge the police will deal "robustly" with "offenders" so long as it's in small manageable situations. When a crowd becomes seriously and dangerously out of order and really offensive, as reported at Dens on Boxing day, the course of action becomes to contain and not inflame, ( whilst continuing to be "robust" with any small pockets of local support) It's the uneven handedness of dealing with situations that irks and common sense is not used to gauge what supporters require "robust" handling. We have all seen how strong willed and forceful the stewards and police are given a group of teenagers standing or singing "offensive" songs, but a full away end can stand and sing and do what they please.
  20. A sledgehammer aimed at the wrong nuts!
  21. As an inside outsider, having followed the whole merger shenanigans, I'd have to agree with Caley D the greatest loss from the merger was any sense of history and identity. ICT are perceived by most as a completly new entity with little history. I am aware of the great achievements of both town (city) teams relative to the resources available, also Elgin and County and the injustice of central belt bias in the Ferranti Meadowbank scandal when a strong Inverness Thistle side could have stood it's own no problem. History has a great say in which side was to be the dominant partner in the merger and timing was all, with Caley perceptually being the stronger partner at the time of ICT's conception. Would I be bitter if I was a Thistle fan? You bet yer arse I would! Identity in Football is a massive factor in the supporters psyche and loyalty is engendered from the links with past.Having lived in Sneck far longer than Dundee it would have been a logical and easy step to take up supporting ICT but a sense of history and loyalty bonds me to my roots. In my opinion, ICT need to work on building that sense of history and belonging that is missing at TCS,the young up and coming support have much to be optimistic about, i wouldn't be at all surprised to see the League (Communities) cup end up at TCS this season and Europe is absolutely a reality, the work on the pitch has been an unmitigated success, their needs to be a wee bit more attention to building the identity and history, thus engendering long term loyalty within the support. Just my opinion.
