The assistant manager thread
I don't know if he done his badges, but if he has then surely goalkeeping coach is Ryan Esson's job to claim. I haven't been to many games this season, but at all of them Esson was doing some of the goalkeeping workouts, even before Marsella left, and he has been the man passing the ball back to the players doing the shooting practice, hence the reason I think he either has some badges or is at least working towards them.

BT wins Champions League rights
Is your exchange one of those with a specific BDUK contract that BT have tendered for and won ? If not then BT have not received any public money to upgrade *your* line at all. If it is then that money is ring-fenced for that purpose and cannot be used for any of the sport deals.

According to the Beeb, Vincent has a knee injury that he needs to see a specialist about so it would seem to me that Greenhalgh in for Vincent, with Nick Ross moving inside as per the change against Hibs would be the way to go. A chance for Pepper to get on the bench maybe ?

Saturday v Hearts
We had him for about three games before he threw the toys out of the pram when was informed he wasn't going to start the next match. This was made even worse when he was then told he was going to travel to Brora to play in a North of Scotland Cup match with the U20 team! He wasn't really missed. Brora, he probably would have been happy with Brora. That game was all the way up in Wick, against Halkirk. I went, ICT got through 1-0 as I remember, and I was surprised to see him as I was just expecting the U20s. He did get to skipper the side, but the story was he was on the phone to his agent on the bus home asking him for a move.

Is it me or is rule 23 poorly worded ? It basically says if you do anything in a match which you know may influence the result, and someone wins a bet, then you are in breach. In that case surely all goal scorers and goalkeepers or defenders who save or block a shot on target in any game that has had a bet placed on it are in danger of being in breach. I know the intention is to get the cases such as the Le Tissier example, and vagueness can be the prosecutor's friend, but it seems to be too much of a catch all to me.

Inverness CT -V- Motherwell
I must get my hearing checked. I could have sworn you said that Mark Brown saved a penalty.... I was confused too, but the full line from the BBC feed was, "Wotherspoon steps up but Mark Brown dives to his left to save a poor spot-kick." I suppose with the words "Mark Brown" and "save" in the sentence, the description of the kick is redundant.

Dundee Utd -V- Inverness CT
Listening to the BBC commentary, I feel that was a game that would have been a draw last season.Great result, and even the BBC are taking notice of us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23646096 <quote> 1655: What about Inverness CT then? Two games, two wins and sitting top of the new Scottish Premiership table. Not too shabby... </quote>

U20s
How is that scenario any different to games being played in the afternoon midweek? You could play the game at 10am and they'd still need to take a whole day off. The point about floodlights is spot on. It is likely to be the other way round, in that to allow those who have college/school to play after classes. Of course this only benefits the central belt teams playing each other, but then isn't the rationale of the SPFL to be for the benefit of the central belt teams ?

ICT -V- St Mirren
I do watch them on YouTube, (the sitename that was an insult when I was younger), but the point is the national highlights and discussion show seems to want to gloss over the game, the highest scoring by a single team. I know it is to be expected, but that doesn't mean we should be happy about it.

ICT -V- St Mirren
As has been predicted, the league leaders get less than 2 minutes of highlights on Sportscene. I had to laugh at the little banner across the screen in the further 2 minutes of talk about St Mirren stating that longer highlights were available online. Well they could hardly be shorter.

ICT -V- St Mirren
note to Mr Bannerman .... to hear any cheer through the radio you would need to be covering the game more than once every 25 minutes or so ! New league, same ****** coverage. and - it would appear - MFR have abandoned coverage too ? And it continues. Currently on the BBC Scotland football page, the lead 3 stories are about the games involving the teams in joint second place in the league, and the League Cup game where one League One team beat another in extra time. The report on the game involving the current leaders of the top tier is just in the list of other headlines.

In fact we will be the only game of the first weekend of the SPFL Premiership that doesn't have a live commentary on the BBC.

Wick Academy 24 July
Yeah. Terry has tended to step out of the dugout, leaving it to Mo & Dunc to manage the games where we've had a primarily U20's squad out on the park. The only exception to that was Arbroath as he was out of the country (he's back now). Scott Kellacher was up last night with Mo. Didn't see Duncan Shearer about.

Wick Academy 24 July
Many thanks for the updates. Just couldn't go to Wick as working at 7am tomorrow. Thanks again. No problem, was a bit worried when I lost the internet access on the phone just when the 5th went in though. It's not that bad coming this far north, you would have been back in Inverness before midnight, unless you came with the team. That said it is a killer going in next day when I have been down to midweek games, so not really worth it for a friendly like this.

Wick Academy 24 July
Pretty good game. I had expected it to be a mainly under 20 team, but there was a bit of experience in each area. Seemed to be set up similar to the 4-2-1-2-1 from last season, Cheyne, Cooper, Gorman and Tremarco along the back, Draper and Devine in front, Ryan Christie in the A.Shinnie role, Ross and Greenhalgh out wide and Evans up top. We started pretty well and got the early goal, a tap-in for Nick Ross after some good work from Greenhalgh and Christie on the left. I almost missed it, saw some advancing as I was posting the team lines, then looked up and there was Nick 3 feet from an open goal, my brother had to tell me who crossed. At least he was better then the announcer who credited the goal to Greenhalgh. Wick had a decent spell and had a great shot that came of the post/crossbar with the keeper well beaten, and another good chance from some bouncing around the box. Our second from Draper was a good shot from just inside the box after a low pass though the middle from Evans, and the third was a great cross from the left about 10 yards inside the Wick half which Evans dispatched well. Greenhalgh had a good chance from a free kick during this period as well, but it was always curling away but was just a couple of feet wide. Wick came back into it a bit after that and it was pretty even until half time but no great shots of note, although there was a scary moment when a deep cross slipped through MacKay's hands and out for a corner. Half time and a nice pie at a reasonable £1.50. Second half and Sutherland came on at right back and the rest of the defence moved one to the left. Devine seemed to be playing a bit deeper as well and we went more of a 4-1-3-2. Play was pretty even again, maybe Wick having the better of it, but then Sutherland went on a run up the right, and then fed it in to I think Evans who passed to Christie. It was a little behind him and I thought the chance was gone, but he managed to pull it back and get the shot away and in. The fifth came soon after, nice work on the right from Evans chipped into the centre from the corner of the box and put away by Ali Sutherland. All a bit scrappy after that for both sides, Wick got through a few times but couldn't get the shot away in time or on target. There were a couple of fiery moments, first when Pepper and a Wick attacker went down together in the ICT box, the whistle went and I thought Pen to Wick, but it went our way, next Pepper and the Wick guy were tangling and the ref was racing in to split them up, just a talking to for both of them though. The next was with just a couple of minutes to go, Draper went in hard in the midfield and a Wick player ended up needing treatment, no foul but Draper did get some treatment from the home fans as well. By this time Brown and Holwarth came on, direct changes for Cheyne and Gorman respectively. Not long after Wick got their goal, no less than they deserved, they had played well, and Barry should have a good season if he can keep some of the trialists. All in all a decent result, better than this time last year when it was 0-0 in the same game, and we do seem to have some options other than the first choices. Evans seems right up there, looking for a shot and getting the ball in good places, Greenhalgh does have a great delivery, though as some have said for other games, he does sometime look to go on himself when the pass would be better. Christie is doing his dad proud and we look to have some good defensive cover. Tremarco doesn't go forward as much as Shinnie, but then it gives the option of Shinnie being able to cover midfield and we don't have to worry about left back cover. As Lizi said elsewhere, the U-20 games could be very good this year as well.
