  1. And from the BBC updates page 15:40 County keeper Antonio Reguero flaps at a cross like a man trying to trap a leaping salmon with a pair of oven gloves and Josh Magennis says "thank you very much" to give the visitors the lead.
  2. The story appears to be that the player wasn't registered in the squad for the games against St Patricks, and so they did not count towards his suspension. It may be that as he was banned Legia didn't register him as he wouldn't have been able to play, not realising that the ban didn't count when he wasn't registered. They then registered him for the round against Celtic, knowing he had to be registered before the first leg to be able to play in the second, and so the first leg then counted as the first game of the suspension.
  3. Or the French Tricolour, the Star Spangled Banner, or the Dutch, Norwegian, Thai flags or a couple of dozen others, North Korea anyone ?
  4. First changes out now. 23rd August home to Celtic has been moved to 12:30 kickoff, showing on BT Sport.
  5. Colombia must have been watching ICT games in preparation, they just tried the tap corner that ICT did in the Partick game last year. Unfortunately for them the officials in their game seem to be almost as bad as ours at knowing the rules and stopped play, though at least they did so straight away. It was made to be retaken rather than giving a free kick as the ball was rolled outside the quadrant and didn't stay in it, so the assistant must have thought it just wasn't placed correctly. Maybe foreign officials, I believe this is a Dutch crew, aren't the panacea some think.
  6. Is this quote referring to any any one/team in particular ? ""As we all know, there are teams with far larger budgets than ours, who have state-of-the-art facilities, but regularly underperform, so it is not all about what you have in terms of facilities, but more about what you are as a club and the environment you foster as part of your club ethos."
  7. Fixture set up to benefit the Edinburgh side, who are then 1 goal up despite being the second best side going into injury time. Stunning injury time equaliser and then a penalties win for the better team. Where have I seen that before this season at Easter Road ?
  8. Richie's last minute winner against Raith in the 4-3 win in April 2010 has to be up there somewhere. ETA Should have read the linked article first to see that it had been covered
  9. Dave the Rave and Vincent have groin strains and Watkins is ill according to Yogi on the Beeb
  10. Official line from SPFL here As I have said elsewhere, it clarifies what happens if the champions win the cup, but not if the cup winners are 2nd or 3rd.
  11. Not sure how thats arrived at. My understanding is that if the winners have already qualified for a Europa League place then the runners up get the cup place. Hence Gretna, Falkirk Dunfermline and Queen of the South playing in europe in recent years.. I know the SPL tried to change the ruling so that next top team would qualify over runners up but not sure if it ever happened. On saying that I'm sure Motherwell got the place when County were runners up. As I said earlier, the implication from the SPFL site and recent history is that the runner up gets in only when the winner is in Champion's League, as last year when Hibs got in as Celtic won the cup and league. County missed out as DU were 3rd that year so no CL, 1st and 2nd got CL then, Motherwell were 5th and so got in as lowest league place qualifier. I may be wrong but I think it has been this way since the Cup Winners Cup was scrapped, or at least shortly after that. Getting a bit off topic for this thread now though isn't it Alex, maybe you could move it to a separate thread for any further discussion.
  12. That's not how I understand it. The only time the cup runners up get the Europa spot is if the cup winners have qualified for the Champions league. Therefore if the league finishes with ICT 4th behind Aberdeen and Motherwell; DU v Aberdeen final = Aberdeen win, ICT in Europe, DU win, them in Europe DU v St J final = Winners in Europe Aberdeen v Rangers = 4th place in Europe regardless of result Rangers v St Johnstone = Rangers win, ICT in Europe, ST J win, them in Europe My understanding.........there is one Champions league place for league winners and two Europa for 2nd and 3rd + one for cup winners. If cup winners already qualify then the place goes to runners up. Also cup winners cannot already be in Champions League this season The official line from the SPFL is here. Relevant quote is, "In the event that the Scottish Cup winners have qualified for the Champions League, the Scottish Cup runners-up will qualify for the Europa League but will enter at qualifying round 1. If this happens, then the Scottish Premiership third place club will enter the Europa League at qualifying round 2." This doesn't directly address the Cup Winners being in a Europa place in the league and who gets what there, however the implication is that the cup runners up qualify only if the cup winners are Champions League qualifiers, not Europa. This is backed by recent history where County were runners up to Dundee United in the 2009/10 cup, DU were 3rd in the league (2 CL places that year), DU got Europa, County a long journey home., Whereas last season Hibs got Europe for losing the final to Celtic. If there has to be a cup final side in the Europa Cup that does indeed change things. That explains why runners up gets it if the winner is CL bound, and if the winner would get Europa through league, then moving the league qualifiers down works, as the cup winner is in Europa either way. Based on that all this, that means the actual scenarios for ICT 4th behind Aberdeen and Motherwell, Celtic as Champions is a combination of Alex and my suggestions, ie; DU v Aberdeen final = Aberdeen win, ICT in Europe, DU win, them in Europe (Winner as cup final representatives) DU v St J final = Winners in Europe (Winner as cup final representatives) Aberdeen v Rangers = 4th place in Europe regardless of result (Aberdeen as cup final representatives) Rangers v St Johnstone = ST J in Europe (St J as cup final representatives) That would mean that we are in the strange position of wanting Rangers and Aberdeen to get to the cup final as it works out best for our own aspirations. Any other times you would really want to see that ?
  13. That's not how I understand it. The only time the cup runners up get the Europa spot is if the cup winners have qualified for the Champions league. Therefore if the league finishes with ICT 4th behind Aberdeen and Motherwell; DU v Aberdeen final = Aberdeen win, ICT in Europe, DU win, them in Europe DU v St J final = Winners in Europe Aberdeen v Rangers = 4th place in Europe regardless of result Rangers v St Johnstone = Rangers win, ICT in Europe, ST J win, them in Europe
  14. By the reaction of some of the "fans" here it would appear ICT has actually now moved into upper half of the EPL. It must be the case as calling for the manager's head before he has a chance to get his feet properly under the table is a normal reaction there. That also explains why the world's top managers were all in for the job and were surprised to be beaten to it by a relative unknown with a good patter. Yes we are on a slump, but when there is the upheaval of a change of management team that is not unusual. Remember Butcher had less than half a season to prevent relegation, didn't by 1 goal, but I think we all agree that the next season helped to define him at ICT. Top 6 is now secure and a full matchday squad of players are signed up for next season, OK we may not improve on last season's position, and miss out on Europe once more, but the rest of the season can be used to bed the team into how they can plat best under Yogi and Russell. If by this time next year we are without a chance of top 6 or worse, then would be a better time to discuss whether an alternative management team should be looked for, for now back the team however you can, will them on and believe, (remember 09/10).
  15. And he's off again, sacrificed after McAuley's red card by the looks of it.
  16. Billy's on for the last half hour according to the BBC text updates
  17. I would suggest only the size of the business. For a company like Tulloch Homes who have helped with the 3 extra buses, it could well be within their general advertising budget for the year so makes good sense as they could get more publicity out of it than for the same cost in normal media adverts. For the bus company itself, especially one of the smaller ones, it may be the difference between a successful year or not.
  18. And Scotland go to Germany and Gibraltar
  19. It is down to the specific reasons fopr the suspension. For totting up enough yellows, any ban is for the competition the yellows were picked up in. A red card for 2 yellows or denying clear goal scoring opportunity, likewise applies to the competition the card(s) was/were picked up in. Reds for violent conduct are immediate bans for 1st team games, I am not sure if red for serious foul play are immediate or linked to competition. Stevenson's ban was first team games due to the nature of the offence, as it was for yellows, as well as totting up, Warren's is for the league cup only. This gives rise to another possibility, what was Josh sent off for ? If for an offence that would lead to an immediate ban he would therefore be clear to play in the final ?
  20. That was not good for the nerves at all, and I get more of the same tonight with the Broncos in the Superbowl. Like Charlie Christie, I was incredulous at the red cards, Warren's second yellow was barely a foul, and if it was then more Watkins than him, and Meekings....... well WTF. Warren is out of the final no matter what, yellows can't be appealed IIRC, but Meekings' red surely can. Couldn't complain about a yellow for the challenge, but he wasn't on a booking from before was he ? If that can get downgraded to a yellow then he would be available for the final, He and Devine handled Pittodrie the other week so wouldn't be worried about that pairing. Put up the effort an belief of today again and a first major trophy is possible.
