  1. Yes and all that could have happened without the need for the other elements that proved so devisive.
  2. They voted to change the voting structure today as well. Two Chairmen voted No. Gilmour and MacGregor. The 11-1 voting structure stays. The proposal to change the voting structure was for very limited purposes to do with further league reconstruction. It was offered at the last minute as a sop to the two dissenting chairmen who, thankfully, didn't fall for it.
  3. Credit to Roy MacGregor and Stuart Gilmore for sticking to their principles. A single league set up, play offs and a fairer distribution of income could have been brought in for next season without the other elements that proved ultimately to be deal breaking. The stance of the SPL that it had to be all or nothing was nothing short of intimidation and blackmail. Yes, existing SPL clubs would have slightly reduced income per capita. Yes they would have been a bit more at risk of relegation but the product would instantly be more attractive to Sponsors and TV partners and the risk of relegation would be balanced by the guarantee that the financial consequences would be less dire than now. Finally, the 11-1 voting structure has to be changed to no more than 9-3. It is no longer any secret that the structure was brought in so that no important change colid be effective without the consent of both members of the Old Firm. I can't, for the life of me, understand why all the current members of the SPL apart from Celtic have not changed the voting structure already. Sadly, it is only a matter of time before The Rangers are back in the top tier and if that position hasn't changed by then the Old Firm veto will remain for ever and a day.
  4. Depends what other offers, if any, he has.
  5. Adam Rooney out of contract at the end of the season.
  6. The punishment seems reasonable and proportionate to me.
  7. The shortest Highland march on record with the most marchers ?
  8. Celtic largely too their foot of the gas weeks ago Lennon was powerless to prevent it.
  9. The other top six teams will have the advantage over us in that we play Celtic when they are motivated to secure the title whereas they play them when they will have little to play for.
  10. The fact that they have not been vocal does not mean that they don't hold strong views. Personally, I have not attended a single meeting or forum but I bet that my views are every bit as strong and as well informed as those who have and every bit as valid.
  11. The big problem with that is that a sizeable majority of this industry's paying customers disagree. As with any walk of life, the commercial organisations ( in this case professional football clubs) ignore the wishes of the paying punters at their peril.
  12. With due respect Caley D, absolute tosh. Put aside selfish self interest and self preservation and all these things could be achieved without the rest of the nonsense. The only thing stopping it is pure greed and if ICT found itself outside the self serving clique of the SPL I am sure we would be singing a different tune.
  13. I agree with Mantis.
  14. If that is true it is embarrassing in the extreme. Any local competent local league secretary ought to be able to complete the task in an hour with a notebook and pencil.
  15. Do the SPL need 50p for the meter ?
  16. What is essential is one league body, a change in the voting system, playoffs and a filtering down of a proportion of TV and sponsorship income. All that could be achieved without this ludicrous contrived 'middle eight' business. If it is such an attractive arrangement why have the only leagues in the world to have experimented with it long since abandoned it ? Well done St Mirren and County. I hope we have the bottle to follow suit.
  17. Pros and cons ? Personally, can't think of a single example of the latter.
  18. Meant to say top six derby. Sorry.
  19. Amazing that the only derby in the SPL post split will be El Kessicko
  20. Poor game and a disappointing result when a win would have gone a long way to cementing our European challenge and putting St Johnstone out of the equation. On the plus side, a fairly healthy crowd and a decent atmosphere.
  21. With apologies to the OP, am I the only one who strongly dislikes the term "footy" being applied to Scottish football ?
  22. More money. In Shinnie's case, loads more money.
  23. I suspect if the Pars do survive this event it will be, initially at least, as a part time club playing in the Second Division. Adopting a vulperine approach picking over the bones, Cardle would be a good addition to our squad.
