  1. The problem would definately not be Robbo's reluctance to work with Sutherland !
  2. Barry starting up front with Rooney might be a reasonable stopgap.
  3. We could dispense with a Director of Football if we had an experienced manager who also had experience of negotiating contracts but with our current management team I believe that a Director of Football is essential.
  4. Kilmarnock have been blowing hot and cold. There's a chance of taking something from Rugby Park.
  5. To be fair to Brewster, was Bayne not keen to return to the central belt ?
  6. Rooney should be starting up front with some experienced striker. A Rooney Wyness combination would have been effective in my opinion.
  7. Good for him. He deserves it.
  8. To be fair, I don't think that there is that much fat on the non footballing side that could be freed up for players wages.
  9. Wales would be a beter option, at least in the short term, than Buchanan. We're well enough provided for with young strikers with some potential but litle experience !
  10. AS you say Scotty, very logical indeed for an edict from the SPL !
  11. Few if anyone questions Brewster' ability as a player. He may just about have been the best uncapped Scot of his generation. Added to that was the fact that he had experience of playing overseas and had worked under a number of competent managers both at home and abroad. Further, the man was clearly very fit and self motivated managing to keep playing, and playing well, in the most challenging position on the field into his 40's. All of that pointed to a man with some potential as a manager and a coach. I for one welcomed his initial apointment after John Robertson departed for Hearts. The initial signs were encouraging and results began to flow but, with the benifit of hindsight, in my opinion, that positive impact was as a result of us having Brewster the player rather than Brewster the manager. That was demonstrated when he left and Charlie Christie, a man with no previous managerial experience, took the club to it's best ever league position with our highest ever SPL points total including a clean sweep of victories after the "split" whilst, at the same time, managing to to play atractive, positive and entertaining football. At the same time as Charlie Christie was achieving this with players with enthusiasm but somewhat limited ability, Brewster was guiding more inately talented and vastly better paid players at Tannadice to the verge of relegation. Who seriously doubts that if the late Eddie Thomson hadn't dispensed with his services United would have gone down. Since Brewster returned ICT have played poorly, players such as Rankin and Wyness have depated as a consequence of Brewster's lack of ability as a man manager . There's a strong susgestion that Donald Park went back down the road for the same reason. At the same time what we are witnessing on the field does not indicate that he's learing from his numerous tactical and coaching errors both here and at Tannadice. As for him being "intelligent and articulate" he might well come across as such in private, I've never spoken to him in person and can only go by his media interviews which strike me as the least cogent and articulate of any current SPL manager and that's saying something ! Brewster may well be a decent, nice man. I'm sure that he is doing his best to manage our club but I have to say that I've seen little or nothing to suggest that that best is good enough. I have to say that I am genuinely frightened that Hamilton will string a couple of victories together under their much more experienced and competent manager then this club of ours could be in very serious trouble indeed !
  12. Looks like a decent cross section of clubs are represented from the largest to fairly small, poorly financed, clubs. Can't see a problem.
  13. Would be a decent signing but it looks as though we would face serious opposition.
  14. Don't think he's beter than either Black or Cowie but he would probably be a decent replacement if either or both were to go.
  15. I remember all of the hype and I'm sure I must have seen him playat least thre or four times but I can't say that he made any impression on me at all!
  16. Considering it was his first league start, Barry did well enough. He's not the player he was 5 years ago but he still offers enough skill and committment to justify his contract being extended to the end of the season.
  17. Homw performances and results are just terrible this year and that's increasingly impacting on the gate and thus the finances of the club making it increasingly difficult to find the resourses to recruit players of sufficient quality to put things right.
  18. What was obvious to most of us before the season began, namely; that we needed at least one experienced forward to replace the forced loss of Niculae and the voluntary loss of Wyness and Bayne is becoming more and more apparent. If we had someone with a bit morecompusure up front today we would have got at least a point and could possibly have won the game. Whether Brewster is still in charge or not that has to be a priority in the January window. There will be cost implications but not as much a the financial implications of droping into the SFL !

    Respect

Is it not the case that "utility" players who can fill a number of positions are seldom outstanding in any particular role ?
  20. Glad to see that Rory's made his mark in the club's history books.
