It was only a few seasons ago it was raised to 65 in line with most other clubs. Doubtful they'd change it back. Imo 65 is a fair age to bring in the concession.

What a terrible hardship that must be...

I don't know the figures and I see what your saying Mr B in terms of hours to income. However other than finding people who will kindly donate their time on the day there is next to no organisation/planning required same goes for post event evaluation etc. So it's really just an on the day thing. I could be well off the mark but on the flip side I think that in terms of other fund raising events (say quiz nights, or even something 'simple' like doing a large raffle) if you took into account the big picture with all the time, energy and materials invested in the planning before the event from volunteers, the actual doing from volunteers and all the sorting out afterward from volunteers it's not likely to be a kings ransom per hour per person either. As a former teacher I'm sure you can appreciate that the planning and evaluation can at times be more time consuming that the actual delivery. So will you be down as a maybe and the club should expect your call to volunteer in the near future?

Hi Caley Jags Together are looking for some people to help out at a water station for the Loch Ness Marathon. The marathon is on Sunday the 29th of September and the station will be running 10am until 4pm, it's located on Dores Road near the entrance to Holm Park just in front of the power sub-station. You don't have to do the full 6 hours! (though you can if you're keen) even just an hour or two would be fantastic. It's just handing out bottles of water and energy gel pouches, nothing too arduous and the runners also really appreciate it. If you'd like to help out please post below and mention what time you could manage. Thanks.

No, it's the strip of metalling right beside the firth, parallel to the road. Actually I'm not totally convinced that the club ever did fulfil the planning requirement about the cycle racks but I'd better not say any more since there may be some Council Jobsworth reading this! And I do take your point about the "parking malarky", given that the police have pledged to get tough on people parking harmlessly on the verge beside the road. In complete contrast, anyone attending Ness Bank Church on a Sunday morning can seemingly park anywhere they like actually ON the road and irrespective of the traffic chaos this causes along the Haugh and Castle Road. Could not agree more, double standards ahoy. Here's a quote from a post I made over a year ago when they announced they were clamping down- "Indeed, my point is that surely we can ask for some common sense to be applied to the situation (which is what we ask of refs all the time) as the vehicles I'm talking about are causing no danger to or disruption to traffic flow or pedestrians. So could some common sense be used and say fair enough these guys aren't harming anyone, it's for one afternoon every 2 weeks whats the downside? If people are parking on pavements or on the road causing a blockage fair enough ticket them, I've got no issue with that. Seems the police have no problem with church goers parking every which way on a Sunday around the Haugh Rd, Riverside area, could the same leniency not be shown to footie fans?" Hope you are enjoying your retirement from teaching btw, Mr Boardman was in Charleston recently and mentioned you were hanging up your Bunsen burners.

German football is very affordable as they have massive sponsorship to offset the ticket price. We can't even get a league sponsor.

Not only have I seen countless water bottles allowed into the ground, I've often seen them being thrown onto the pitch, without punishment! I wasn't permitted last time and when my wife and I took our 8 week old daughter we had to get the supervisor over to give us permission to take the baby bottle in! Strangely metal studded football boots and a metal bicycle pump are fine.

It runs all the way round the Firth side of Stadium Road, between the "rocks" and the road opposite the stadium but also well past it because the original road which the Council specified was then extended by them to provide a vital link between the Kessock Bridge roundabout and the harbour. From that point of view the £900,000 which Inverness District Council pledged in 1995 but got their knickers so much in a twist over that it was only paid by Highland Council from the Common Good after they took over in 96, has been paid back to the community many times over by the amenity of that road. So it seems, Fraz, that you are one of the very small number of fans to cycle to games at the TCS. In that case I wonder if you parked your bike in one of the "64 cycle racks (Sheffield Style)" which the Council specified as one of the planning conditions for the stadium!! Oh, and I see our old chum Doogie has emerged once more from his blue and white phone box on Telford Street in post #35. And once again he has us all wondering whether he simply hasn't got a clue as to what the reality of the facts was or whether this is just another of his woefully naive attempts at retrospective revisionism? I see, is it not overgrown with bushes? I've just started cycling there to avoid the parking malarky and to burn of a few calories. Seems I made a good choice given the traffic issues! Cycle racks? Chained to lamp post outside the north stand I'm afraid. I can't even take my water bottle with me though as I wouldn't be allowed in the ground with it. Could put it behind reception I guess.

I think you have to be careful when offering discounts to certain sectors to get people through the gate. You run the risk of alienating other people who already pay full price. Is there a large amount of people in the forces who's primary reason for not attending being cost? I don't know, but I'd be surprised if that was the case. I had a conversation with a pensioner fan who's adult son was annoyed that a couple of guys in their early 20s who sat next to him now got a cheaper ST due to falling into the 16-25 bracket, while (he being over 25) was still paying full price. He felt his son was quite right to be upset as those guys in their early 20s had jobs etc and should be paying full price as they could afford it. Fair enough I said but I have guys over 65 who sit near me and get a cheaper ST than I do, but they may well have much larger disposable income than I do, (paid off mortgage, kids left home etc) but it doesn't upset me. Depends on your perspective I guess, but unless you means test everyone at the ticket office it will never be a perfect system and I guess you have to play to the averages and look at the best business model. Part of going to the games is to support the club financially and I'm happy to do that but I'm fortunate (at least at the moment!) enough to be in a position to do that.

Well let me see.... Mercury? Venus? Mars? Jupiter? Neptune? From whichever one it is, hopefully you can make out the following observations. * Possibly partly due to a fairly large away support, the current capacity of the TCS (7700) was yesterday more than HALF full for the first time this season. Last season's average gate equates to about 200 above 50% capacity. * Even visits from Celtic now struggle to get the TCS within 1000 of its full capacity. * ICT has a recent history of modest losses so would hardly be in a position to build this white elephant in the first place. Unless you are proposing a further 30% cut in the player budget? * In any case the TCS is owned not by the club but by the ICT Trust who have just as good a grip of reality as the board has. * There is indeed a gas main in that neck of the woods which would necessitate the extra expense of a gadget known as a cantilever if a stand were ever to go over there. * The design of the current main stand is the result of multiple constraints placed on the design of the original stadium by an extremely tight budget back in the mid 90s. This in turn was largely due to the requirement to build a £1.3M road - plus cycle path which I have never in my life seen a cyclist use, despite the fact that the blighters constantly whinge on about cyclists' rights and getting more cycle tracks!! I really thought this subject had been done to death years ago! I cycled to the game on Saturday, I never even knew there was a cycle path. Where is it?

I'd think about contacting the police directly or a local councillor perhaps. It was never this big of an issue before, lucky it wasn't Celtic coming to town, would have been even worse.

Yep the slip lane they had before was great, can't understand why it was got rid of. People who come up with these plans (and prob getting paid heaps of cash) must be on something.
