I very rarely bet on us to win, but today I did. I thought we did well in pre-season whereas St Mirren clearly had problems, so I was pretty confident, and the evens odds were too tempting. Great start for the team.

Meh. They've been grinding out low scoring results, whereas we would have been setting Europe alight with our free-scoring total football. Still, their success boosts the coefficient which hopefully helps us next season.

If you look at any of the positions he can play, we have options that are as good if not better than Foran, so you are right to ask the quesion. But in addition to versatility, he takes onto the pitch an abundance of presence, determination and leadership that I believe helps drive his teammates to perform better.

Chris Hogg is currently on trial at Gateshead, and has appeared in a couple of pre-season games.

That's only if Esson is fit, and I'm not sure we can rely on that being the case all season. We are starting the season with just our second choice keeper and a youngster, so there should be a contingency plan in case Brill gets an injury or suspension.

BBC reporting today that an anonymous survey of the 12 SPL clubs reveals that 7 of them say season ticket sales are up on last year, 3 on a par, and only 2 are down.

I hope to see an attacking 4 of Doran, Mackay, Agdestein and Evans, simply so that we can have our very own ABBA (Aaron, Billy, Bjorn and Adam).

I'd be surprised if that happened, simply because our pre-season preparations have been with just one upfront, and the results and performances have been more than satisfactory.

Great work by Meekings, apart from overhitting the pass. I guess Charlton won't be happy with the defending though - there's a full 12 yards of space in front of Meekings when Doran puts the cross in, and the blonde guy who chased Meekings up the pitch then just gave up and went for a walk!

A mate who went out to the game in Norway told me that loads of the travelling Saints fans sent postcards to him!

It's a shame for the Saints fans that they won't be able to travel for the next round. The only way to get a visa for Belarus with such short notice is to travel, in person, to London and pay £300 for one. St J and Rosenborg both had to buy visas for all their team and entourage as soon as it became possible that the winners would be going to Belarus. And apparently ther game itself it being played 4 hours away from Minsk because their stadium is being done up. On the plus side, the complete lack of atmosphere will be something the Saints players are well used to.

It has certainly been confirmed that he has left Brighton by mutual consent, and the player has said today that he is in talks with a club but doesn't want to comment until a deal is done.

I see that Niculae has been out in China for the last 6 months, collecting a lucrative wage for sitting in the treatment room. After making just a few appearances he's been released early from his contract there and is back in Romania looking for a club.
