League Cup - Inverness get bye to last 16?
The 3rd round is also seeded, with the seeded teams being the 8 with the highest league placings previous season.

I see our Georgian lad Dachi Khutzishvili turned out for Elgin the other day.

Pre season friendlies............
Yeah the pitch isn't ready after getting work done on it. That aside, I think home pre-season friendlies tend to lose us money so we haven't done many in recent years.

Nigerian goalfest
Weren't Arbroath playing a cricket team? Anyway, they officially lost that record about 10 years ago, although the 149-0 in Madagascar perhaps shouldn't really be counted as it was caused by deliberate own goals as a protest against a refereeing decision Lionel Djebi-Zadi playing in central defence.

Nigerian goalfest
Did you see the scores from Nigeria the other day? Basically you had 2 teams level on points and goal difference, and whichever one won by the most in their final game would get promotion to the national 3rd division. Having recently drawn against each other 0-0, both teams miraculously found their shooting boots and won 79-0 and 67-0 respectively. The majority of the goals came in the 2nd half, at a rate of one every 40 seconds. Unsurprisingly there is to be an investigation. It has also been reported that trialist Shane Sutherland failed to get on the scoresheet. (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Maybe he's just not foreign enough for them.

Our former "Machine" has signed for Forfar, after Falkirk let him go. He's 38 now. He'll be joined there by a resurrected Marvin Andrews. Forfar's captain is ex-ICT Mark McCulloch, also 38. Dick Campbell seems to be a fan of experience rather than youth.

Andy Murray Grand Slam victory
Truly outstanding. But of course it could be pointed out that his brother won Wimbledon 6 years before him.....

"And now the team news from Inverness. There's no place in the squad for Ben Greenhalgh after he failed a late fitness test spelling test......"

Again I'm pretty sure its an employment law thing. If anyone is being made redundant (and one of them will be) then you've got to draw up a "pool of selection" of all the people who might be suitable for any positions that exist and then have a fair process to choose who stays and who goes. If you don't meticulously follow every last detail of the prescribed process then it is considered unfair dismissal, which means lawyers, tribunals, out of court settlements etc.

Who is our new Goalie?
The Luton Town website I'm looking at confirms he is going out on loan. http://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/article/brill-loaned-to-inverness-890481.aspx

I'm fairly sure it is still TUPE, because the SFL Co basically agreed to transfer its operations over to SPL Co, regardless of the legal technicalities of how they actually implement that transfer. Edit to add this from a recent article in the Herald: "Billed officially as a merger, in reality this will involve the larger, more commercially driven Scottish Premier League subsuming the SFL given the company running the SPFL will still be the Scottish Premier League Limited and it will have the same company registration number. Under TUPE employment law, the SFL staff – six of whom are full-time – will be transferred over to the SPFL but what roles await them is unclear".

Sounds like a TUPE situation.

I wonder if the bonus could have been triggered by growing the SFL's revenues.....which would have easily been achieved simply because Rangers were in the SFL, not because of anyone being particularly good at their job.

It's been reported that Longmuir is about to get a £100,000 bonus from the SFL. Good to see the lower leagues are awash with cash......

Ah yes, the Daily Record quoted this interview from a French magazine: “I had no money when I arrived in Scotland. My girlfriend and brother came over with me and they told me that if I wanted a good career I needed a CV that offered some guarantees, such as having been part of a professional set-up. “So I tinkered with my CV, saying I had two caps for the Ivory Coast, and added a few lines about Nantes’ academy. This was done so recruiting clubs would take me more seriously – and it worked. “It is a shame that I ended up taking this measure but I have no regrets. A bit of cheek always pays off."

My memory of Mackie was a 1-0 win at Kirkcaldy just a few games before we first won Division 1, and he ripped Raith apart that day, time after time. Other than that I don't recall seeing much of him, probably because he was injured so much.
