  1. Rangers currently have a first team squad of 32, and an Under 19 squad of 35, which is far more than they need to fulfil their fixtures. The administrator will be looking to cut the wage bill immediately, which could result in quite a few of these players being made redundant this month. Would ICT be in the market to pick up any cast offs? I'm sure Terry will be interested in developments, but the problem is our squad is full and there's unlikely to be any surplus money in the budget for the remainder of the season. It would be nice to think though that if a suitable player came on the market looking for a reasonable wage for a short term contract, we could accommodate 1 more first team player. The U19s could present an opportunity for the longer term. The administrator might take the view that whilst they are on relatively low wages, there's a lot of them and they don't really bring in any income. Building for the future goes out of the window in administration, it's all about balancing the books so I won't be surprised if the axe is wielded there. It is potentially in our favour that Terry is well connected to get the lowdown on these youngsters.
  2. Rangers fans have been very smug for most of the last 25 years, so it's refreshing to see them humble. And greeting on the national news.
  3. Very sad news. Never met him but he was a great contributor to this site and frequently made me laugh.
  4. Duff & Phelps have been appointed. Makes a change from Blair Nimmo!
  5. There are so many implications and connotations for the whole of Scottish football. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy the moment.
  6. If they drew up a shortlist of 500 candidates, he might be on it.
  7. Yes it certainly feels that way. I suppose it could be proved statistically by calculating our squad unavailability percentage for each game ( eg 5/25 = 20%) and then averaging it for each each season, but even I am not sufficiently nerdish to do that.
  8. Yeah I've seen it done on the continent and it can be quite effective. Although I fear the TCS version would end up as: Number 1, Ryan................................. Number 3, Ross.................................. etc
  9. How about Ross County sacking Dick Campbell for taking them to the top of the league, but doing so without enough "panache"? In that case, the official reason was bullsh1t and the real reason was a poor working relationship with George Adams. So I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to the Livi sacking than the officiall announcement suggests.
  10. Yes, they wanted to win trophies.
  11. Actually, I don't think you'd be too far off with that 1:50 spread. I know for a fact that a few years ago one of the bigger 1st division clubs was getting around £20,000 from their shirt sponsor, and for that the sponsor also got a hospitality package at every home game which was worth a few thousand. Since then advertising budgets have been cut and interest in football has declined, but a lower SPL club will obviously still get more than that due to increased media coverage. But you'd still be talking just tens of thousands.
  12. I don't think this is common knowledge, but taxpayers' money has actually been used (or abused) to help save a Scottish football club before. Someone in a position of great power ordered government lawyers and officials to help rescue a Fife club, one that he just so happened to support.
  13. But PMQs would be even duller than it currently is!
  14. I wouldn't read anything into that D. He gets asked a question at PMQs as to whether he agrees it would be a good idea for HMRC to hold a meeting with Portsmouth, that's all. He's hardly going to say "No, just wind them up as quickly as possible, put more people out of work and just write off all the taxes outstanding". It'll be interesting to see what sort of political backing Rangers get when they go into administration - my perception is that they have always been the team of the "establishment" in Scotland and have a lot of support in high places.
  15. And Rangers are the biggest losers. It's unsurprising that the bottom teams have made great efforts to strengthen, with Hibs doing major reconstruction on their team, and Dunfermline adding more players than we might have expected. In both cases, they can't get any worse than they have been so far this season and teams like ourselves, St Mirren and Killie will have no room at all for complacency to avoid getting sucked back into the relgation fight.
  16. I see Swindon are playing tonight, but (understandably) he's not in the squad.
  17. That's a good bit of business for Falkirk. Similar big sums to what they got for another young player, Arfield, not so long ago. I sometimes wonder why we can't attract anywhere near that sort of money for our good players. Are they just better than us at producing talented players, or do they get a benefit from tying them up on longer contracts than we do?
  18. It's OK, they've both got "mouths". Although, a man and a women both have mouths, but failure to tell the difference could be quite traumatic.
  19. Plymouth!
  20. Their board would be delighted if they can have promotion wrapped up with a few games to spare, given all the construction work and other preparations needed to get ready for the SPL.
  21. At this particular moment in time, I think Cox to Swindon is the biggest transfer fee involving a Scottish club this window. I suspect though that if Jelavic completes his move, it may be for a slightly higher sum.
  22. Aye, best of luck in Wiltshire, although there's something disconcerting about "Cox" and "Wilts" in the same sentence.
  23. The thing about foreign players is that they tend not to stick around for very long. Hastings is the big exception to that one, although he did leave then come back. Presumably if we ranked our foreign players by appearances alone he'd be top by miles. But who would be next?
  24. I think its great that a wee team like this will get a once in a lifetime season up with the big boys, just like Gretna.
