  2. Given the influence of Nicky Low, is it time to play three in the middle to tighten things up and ensure we are competitive? It would mean a 4-3-3 / 4 5 1 type flexible formation so we would need to play with one up top but have the midfield needing to get up in support. If Allardice is fit to start, I’d put him in alongside Welsh and McAlear with one of them playing deeper to support the defence and allow the full backs to push forward when the opportunity arises. The problem is who drops out. Logically Mckay or Samuels so we keep the width of Chalmers and Sutherland.
  3. Jordan White for County against Rangers tonight, but they miss out on Europe so we could get them in the Premier Sports Cup. With the way the split works, they’ve finished sixth but look likely to only have the ninth highest points total.
  4. I’m not so sure Arbroath did run out of steam last night. They are very fit and the stat someone posted about their late goals does not suggest tiredness. I think the wind suited them as it helped them come out flying at the start. We had the wind advantage in the second and we were largely on top. Let’s hope for calm conditions at Gayfield on Friday or, if not, we win the toss and have the wind behind us in the first half and get on the front foot from the first whistle and hopefully have enough to defend in the second half to see us through. I don’t expect any changes in the starting line up and agree with those singling Devine out. I’ve lost count of the number of goal saving blocks and challenges he’s made this season. He is one of our underrated players.
  5. Another one on Friday please!
  6. The wind played a part but it’s no excuse. Arbroath caught us on the hop with their fast start and it took us forever to get into the game. Other than Chalmers’ shot off the bar, we did little in the first half. In fairness, Ridgers was not overly challenged either. We were better in the second half and created plenty chances but couldn’t take them, generally through off target finishing. Equally Ridgers had to be alert at times too. We played too many long high balls with the result the ball came straight back at us and we struggled to get guys like Mckay and Sutherland into the game. A draw was a fair result and now it is a winner takes all game on Friday. There is no reason why we can’t win it, but we will need to be on form for the whole game and try to play to our strengths, with a lot less hoofing it up the park.
  7. Pitch looks great. A bit breezy but I’ve seen a lot worse conditions. I share the pre-match nerves but it is in our own hands. An early goal would help, but a win is what matters however we achieve it.
  8. This thread was the game at Firhill. The BBC have finally given the crowd for Friday evening as 2470. It felt bigger than that to me.
  9. According to that reliable source, Wikipedia, he’s been at Cowdenbeath since January 2020. I don’t see how he could have been eligible to play if he played for Brora recently: are you sure it was him?
  10. Congratulations to Chalmers for being named the Championship Player of the Month for April.
  11. Which one? They’ve got three Hamiltons!

  13. Cowdenbeath look like dropping out of the league after their defeat today. Who’d have thought Fife derbies next season would be Dunfermline against Kelty! Dunfermline and Falkirk hate each other, so at least they have those games to look forward to. At least Montrose lost today so (if we don’t get promoted) at least we won’t have Gardyne playing against us in the league, as I dread to think what Carson would do to him!
  14. Did he not also get relegated with Hartlepool? His spell here is really his managerial highlight, although I know there are many who give a lot of the credit to Terry Butcher (I’m not trying to spark that debate off again though).
  15. Not the best match we’ve played this season, but we got the job done. Thank goodness we got that goal or the second half could have got unbearable given the amount of possession Partick had. Overall we handled them pretty well, although the bar saved us in the first half and Ridgers had a couple of decent saves. Equally we could have had more with their ‘keeper making two good saves. The players fought for it and we are deservedly through. The injuries are a worry and hopefully we don’t lose anyone else for next week. A great show from the singing section: keep it up. It is clear the players appreciate it. Roll on Tuesday. Ticket details here: https://ictfc.com/premiership-play-off-semi-final-tickets-on-sale-now
  16. I’m looking forward to tonight’s game, but the job is only half done and it could be a bumpy ride. We’ve played Partick five times this season. One game finished goalless, but they have led in the other four, including taking the lead three times in the 3-3 draw a few months ago. There have been 10 goals in the two home games against them. The players will be up for it and I hope we start on the front foot and take the game to Partick, playing to our strengths. I don’t think we should set out to defend our slender advantage as that will be playing into Patrick’s hands. The fans need to be behind the players throughout, even if we fall behind. This game is ours for the taking.
  17. Thanks to Gringo for all the work on the Prediction League this season. This was my first crack at it, and I’m happy with the fourth placed finish. It was certainly tight at the top between Caleyjag, Scotty and Mrs Gringo and congratulations to Caleyjag. I hope it continues next season and I’d encourage more to participate. It’s good fun. Thanks again Gringo.

  19. Details for next season here: https://spfl.co.uk/news/premier-sports-cup-202223 It starts on the second weekend in July with the regionalisation ditched, so hopefully that gives us some variety in the teams we get drawn against given we tended to end up with similar opposition in many years.
  20. Was worried at 1-0 but we came back and deservedly won. Sutherland definitely MOM for his goal and tremendous assist. We now need to finish the job on Friday. The worry for me was some slackness at the back. A couple of issues in the first half but how we got away with Carson’s error I don’t know. None of that matters as we won and are in pole position. Credit to them all, particularly after losing Walsh so early. And great to hear the noisy travelling fans.
