That your a closet Celtic fan? :008: Seriously, I dont think your a Celtic fan. Though surely a Rangers fan would avoid using the word hun also? I just happen to rate Boyd fairly highly (in terms of Scottish players) and would welcome him back, providing he backed up his inclusion and kept schtoom. If he isn't selected for whatever reason ask his coach, not complain and take a huff. Im all for 2nd chances, providing the person learns his lesson and takes that chance. Everone seems to have forgotten the O'Conner incident and the fact he left it until another manager came in before even apologising, or the fact Weir quit under Berti Vogts. But since then both have looked to press on. Because it is in the past. Ps to say Larsson went on to prove himself is a touch incorrect. He was already a regular in the Sweden squad before Celtic and had a starring role in Swedens 3rd place play-off victory thrashing of Bulgaria in the 1994 world cup. Petty I know. Yes but he still had to prove himself at that level didn't he? I wasn't just referring to his days at Celtic. I was saying that in Larsson's Career, he managed to prove himself at THE highest level. Boyd hasn't. Henrik Larsson was a class act though. He sullied himself playing in Scotland for as long as he did. He could have played for any top club but chose not to(Man Utd enquired on more than 1 occasion to Fergusons admission). Though his loyalty to Celtic must certainly be commended, especially in the modern era when managers, players, chairmen and even fans are to quick to chop and change as soon as the going gets tough. But because Larsson was able to remain loyal to Celtic and still go on to win a champions league medal at 36/37, which is a feat in itself( Never mind the fact he turned the game around when he came on.), does not mean Kris Boyd is not good enough to play regularly for Scotland. It doesn't mean he's not a good striker. It just means he's got a hell of a lot more to do to even match Larsson in both achievements and in hard work on the training ground. He's still got 10 years to do it. Though I would be very doubtful if he ever did. But he is about the same age as Larsson was when he came to Scotland so it's not beyond the realm of feasible plausibility for him to improve on himself somewhat in the next 10 years. Becoming a good player for his country therefore would surely be on that list.

I'd like to see Robbo with CC and Wilson as his two wingmen. And Pele as Chief scout.
-
Ah someone mentioning Ken Mackie. Those were the days. Everything was so feel good. We got obstacles thrown at us and yet we took it in our stride. Would anyone take Ken Mackie back as chairman?
-
Because that would be sensible. Dont talk sense man!

Boyd is not the 1st player in the world to refuse to play for a certain manager Internaionally. I doubt he will be the last. Hell, Makelele retired and kept getting called up. France then kept threatening to induce the 4 day rule.

I didnt really think much of Skysports summerisation of the attack. Adebayor was unhurt, the bus driver was killed and several others injured. Almost like the others were an after thought. Well as long as Adebayors ok. Seems that every player at the tournament has their own personal bodyguard i hear

Quelle surprise, an embittered Celtic fan that can't appreciate someone rating the top scorer in Scotland, a NI striker with an amazing international record and choosing to ignore the comments made appreciating your top scorer in Scott McDonald. For what it's worth, I probably think iamthecaptain1 is an Inverness fan but then, I don't think everyone really supports one of the Old Firm secretly (I've been accused of both, and as a Hearts fan too, when in fact I'm none of those). I suspect DALNEIGHCALEY has most down as either as blue or a green at heart. Sad really but quite typical. Your bang on starchief IMO most ICT fans are/were fans of one side of the Old Filth as ICT is such a young club its only natural . Your so wide of the mark though in labelling me a Celtc fan . Bet yet you are so bang on? Its ok, you can come out of your closet. You dont need to deny it. Although I can completely understand why you would.

Quelle surprise, an embittered Celtic fan that can't appreciate someone rating the top scorer in Scotland, a NI striker with an amazing international record and choosing to ignore the comments made appreciating your top scorer in Scott McDonald. That was kind of my point. Surely anyone who can score a hattrick versus Spain, yet can't get a game in the Premiership shows more how hight the standard in the premiership is than the ineptitude of Healy or Boyd because he doesn't play there but has received offers and enquiries from top end Championship clubs with which 1 he turned down is now doing quite well in the Premiership, under McLeish, a man who knew how to get the best out of him. Oh darn it I just showed my support for a former hun manager. Nothing to do with him being a Scotttish manager doing well in England. Also Im obviously going to bang on about Boyd in a thread marked "Boyd for Scotland" And I do rate McDonald highly, wishing it was more than just his name that was Scottish. Though I have to admit I loved Brian Laudrup as a child, then again he was very good... but in Football manager I do go Celtic quite alot against my hun friend (yes I have a Rangers supporting friend. I just have to live with that.) Whats more I enjoy beating him. Which happens alot. Look, Im sorry Im big enough to see past an incident that happened a year and a half ago. I apologise for rating a player, as good enough for Scotland at that, who happens to play for Rangers. I employ deep regret for using a person who happens to support Rangers as a comparison in that he may stuggle at the top club level but is still able to flourish Internationally. Finally, DalneighCaley, Im sorry your a Celtic fan. It cant be easy. And while i do not share your OF affliction. I feel your pain. Im sure everyone is here for you. :P :025:

:029: :022: Are you being completely ignorant? We are agreeing he can score in the SPL, but its not that fecking hard. He has never proved himself when given the chance at a higher level. And he has had chances. Believe it or not, if Boyd had not scored those 5 against an atrocious Dundee United side, then he and Scott McDonald would be near level on goals. Thats not including McDonalds goal against Moscow. But take into consideration McDonald has scored against Rangers this term. I would think McDonald has been the better all round striker. He has scored more goals per chances taken so far this season and he has scored more against bigger teams. Oh and the last bit is a bit silly, as a lot of Celtic fans are Irish. But Celtic have an Irish Heratige. Going to complain that Rangers fans fly the Union Jack? As they only do it as a "Get it up ya" to Celtic. I'd still take him, even if he hadn't scored those 5 (ifs and buts). Being close to Scott Mcdonald on goals isn't exactly an embarrasment. Austrailian Internationalist who plays with players at least as good for his country against some very weak teams but not entirley sure if he has scored yet for them but I still rate him as one of the best strikers in the SPL. Just a shame he is an Aussie and therefore pointless bringing into the debate. Im sure I could list alot of non Scottish strikers that are better than Boyd. Thats not really the issue. Given there is only 2 strikers of note (faddy and Fletch) playing on a regular basis in the EPL, one of which is not really a striker for his club and hasn't played there regularly at club level for many a year now and the other doing well but still finding his feet, I feel that you have to look to the SPL and looking at the Scottish strikers able to play regularly for the best clubs. There are really only 2(Miller and Boyd), possibly 3 if you included Maloney (not really a striker) Of all the players I have mentioned only one scores at, not only a good rate, but an exeptionally high rate. Now given the new manager has decided that he wants to start afresh, and the past being over and done with, can that really be overlooked? I think not. I cant really be bothered so Im not going to check the exact stats, but I know that Boyd has also scored into, Hearts (regularly competing for 3rd) Hibs (currently in 3rd) and Aberdeen (always a contender) on more than 1 occasion each. So he doesn't score all that much against Celtic, big deal. At Ibrox this season, he played and set up 2 before being knocked out. After he went off, Rangers went flat. As has been argued to the bitter end, being a striker is not just about scoring goals. Well there you go. I'd also like to see George Boyd included a little more. He's not too bad him.
-
I wondered how long it would take for someone to say that. Four pages in is not bad going though. Yeah I was thinking the same myself. I've had it before. I was bashing Neil Lennon once, calling him "a dirty cheating, not all that good, football player" got called a bluenose for it. A week later he dived and got Juanjo sent off. Boy, did I feel smug then.

Well now they can put more people at the retail parks helping with all those broken hips. Its really funny watching people trying to drive in the snow. Especially down here. Most people dont seem to have a scooby.
-
So I can't be a Scotland fan wanting the best players to represent my country? So Im unbiased enough to appreciate what old firm players can do. I could quite easily suggest a Celtic forum of some sorts for yourself given your unweltering bashing of a player who is the best goalscorer we have available to our country. That being Scotland not the republic of Ireland. Some Celtic fans confuse the 2.
-
And I was asked for a list of lesser teams, so I supplied them. My point was as goals in a group can be vital against these lesser teams then a player like boyd could be the difference between a 2-1 win and a 3/4-1 win.
-
Lesser opposition than Scotland, where did you get that from? :021: I mean lesser teams in general. Ones we should beat at home and could beat away. Iceland, Georgia, Lithuania, Macedonia And I would fancy us to beat better teams with the right team and coach in charge. Even though I didnt say it, yes there are lesser teams than Scotland. Just not as many as there perhaps should be or needs to be to enable us to qualify for a tournament. Firstly, i think we are probably level with Macedonia. They are a decent team. But if we are failing to beat Georgia and Iceland without Boyd, then the problem is far beyond him. Its bigger than him. And stop going on about Healy! FFS! His goalscoring might not be as good, but i think hes a better all round player. It's probably the best comparison to make. He doesn't even play regularly at club level or score yet is relied upon his country to do just that. So you substitute some all round abilty for alot more goals. I wouldnt be too fussed by that. Healy Healy Healy!

1. dunno 2. dunno 3. Ross Tokely? 4. Stewart 5. He has managed the highest amount of International teams. 18 teams.

I can quite see where the Police are coming from. Im sure they have enough on their plate with the weather than having to marshall a football game and haviing to save countless Well fans on the way up. Meant to drop to -20 in the highlands this weekend - wouldn't fancy sitting for 90 minutes in minus temperatures. All you old duffers would freeze to death.

Where did you get that from ? Twas a mere joke hence the ;) Why would he not score for Scotland tough if he would obviously score goals, given the chance, for England? Fair enough , he wouldn't get as many chance. That much is obvious. He therefore wouldn't score as many goals. That too seems obvious. Wouldn't mean he wouldn't score. Even 1 in 3 compared to his 1 in 2 as it stands. Remember only 1 goal of his 7 has been a penalty, which he earned himself (Faroe Islands) Im happy to concede he is completely the wrong type of striker to be deployed against the likes of France, Italy England, Spain, Netherlands etc and particularly away. However if the team behind him had a strong nucleus at Hampden that might be ok. And against lesser opposition particularly at Hampden he is type of player who will take opportunities to make a game more comfortable a result than the game was. Goals for is an important aspect in group head to head records. Goals also breed confidence. So 1st choice - certainly not all the time but an important addition to the Squad, yes definitely.

The Sun a Tory paper - well it is now after Labour ditched it and tore it up at a party conference. It was traditionally a Labour supporting paper. Dunno if the Scottish Sun followed suit with its parent papers ending their support following muggy Browns tearing incident.
-
So he could get a game for England but not Scotland? The fact is he is more likely to score a half chance someone else wouldn't even notice. And Scotland create more of them than clear cut opportunities. I'll keep saying it. David Healy - Northern Ireland. Doesn't play much club football. Scores tons for his country Boyd IMO is a better player.

Unbelievable! They both play for the same team. One scoring way more than the other one. Top scorer for every team he's played in, despite being dropped numerous times for the 'goal machines' of Cousin, Darcheville, Lafferty and Miller. Kenny Miller works a hell of a lot more than Gary Lineker too but I know who I'd want in my side. It's fair enough to want Boyd dropped for what he did with Burley but to say Miller will score more than Boyd flies in the face of reason. The underlined bit in bold is the crux of the matter . Scoring goals against bottom 6 SPL teams does not make you an International striker . For England no, or for any big teams. For Scotland Yes. Given the bottom 6 change about and he scored 5 into a top 6 team a week and a half ago in a ten man team kind of disproves that consensus anyway.
-
Whats the point of getting into the positions if ultimately he doesn't stick them away. We could have been 2 or 3 up against the Dutch had kenny Miller any composure. But thats not what his game is all about. His donkey work and defensive harrying creates alot of space for a striker like Boyd. And he also has the odd scoring run, which is often helped by his slower, larger strike partners knock-ons* The fact is Boyd does get into the goal scoring positions otherwise he wouldnt score so many. The difference Miller hopes to score, Boyd expects to score. Personally I'd love for us to be able to call up 5 strikers in Boyd, Miller, Faddy, S.Fletcher and McCormack. Alot of International teams would love to have 5 options like that. Also I wouldn't mind if Burke, who has been a steal for Cardiff, would be able to sort out his personal problems at home. But I have alot of respect for someone who would spurn International duty to spend time with his young child (who still lives in Glasgow) For someone who probably loves what he does for a living its a big sacrafice.

Your new to football aren't you? Not particularly. The point of my post, clearly lost for which I apologise (clarity can be a weakness on my behalf) was to possibly identify those who play in a similar position, who have yet to stick one or two petulant fingers up at our country and its supporters. It would, in my opinion, be "better" to provide opportunity for these guys rather that doff the cap and grovel to a pompus ass who has treated us with such contempt. This was cemented by my obviously unreallistic comment (I have no genetic link to Bertie Vogts) to suggest playing a six man midfield. Will be clearer next time. Sorry. Mmmm seem to remember James Mcfadden missing his flight home for going out on the oiss and sleeping in. Or Garry O Conner going awol then blaming it on personal problems (when he was spotted out in the Burgh) and then not even bothering to apologise for it. Such short memories. And as for the above Kenny Miller performing in a Scotland top. He had one good spell donks ago and thats it. I've lost hope when he's trough on goal because it would be a suprise for him not to fluff it. It would be a suprise for Boyd to balls it up like his team mate does all the time at vital moments.

If he leaves, dont think I'd be too disappointed. As long as it's not for nothing.
