Hibernian through the eyes of Pat Stanton

Yep. Always quoted as one of the Lisbon Lions though he never played in the final due to injury. Another interesting fact is that back then the only sub allowed was a goalkeeper. -

Aberdeen City Council get next to nothing from all the oil money so they can't exactly invest in the infrastructure of the city. It's down to the private companies to do that if they so wish and more often than not they will invest in improving their own buildings or infrastructure for their own benefit rather than for the good of the city (although some improvements may bring knock on improvements or benefits for the city). As for the micro brewery I can't claim to have followed the story too closely however I would, in most cases, trust the word of a public authority / planner far more than that coming from a business / individual with private interests. That is not strictly true RiG. All the players in the industry, who have offices, factories etc have to pay local council taxes and property rentals. They pay local people who live and spend in the area. People who have homes and pay local taxes. Every supply vessel in and out of Aberdeen harbour has to pay for that privilege. A lot of money has gone into Aberdeen from oil over the years. Sadly many of those in control squandered the funds on ideas of no benefit to the city. -

I dont know if the refusal was right or wrong. The reasons debated by the planning committee were pathetic all the same. Not just what the hotel owner says but what was portrayed on the councils own video of the decision meeting. As to the people objecting, do they know anything about micro-brewing? Modern equipment is designed to be environmentally friendly and should have no impact on the area. I also doubt very much that vehicular access to the hotel area will be any greater than is already required to run the hotel and bar. As for the effect on flood defenses, whats that all about? The brewing process uses water. It doesn't create it. It is also known that on-premises micro breweries that produce good beers for sale mainly on their own premises bring in more custom than average brewery controlled pubs thus creating jobs and boosting local economy. On the great big picture micro-brewing is far more environmentally and economically friendly than mass production units that use chemical means to speed up the fermentation process. It uses organic locally produced products, reduces transportation and packaging costs and is not such a drain on energy. On-premises micro-brewing is very successful in many of the cities of the UK. Should Inverness miss out? -

Before my time Charles. The one thing that really bugs me about local councillors is that they apply much of their time trying to score political points of each other rather than do a job to the benefit of all. In planning for example they have a national guideline to follow but choose to interpret that to meet their own ends. No micro-brewery because it could effect the flood defenses. C'mon!! That one to me smacks of temperance thinking. -

Agree with some of your comments about Aberdeen but to say there's a lack of high quality restuarants suggests you haven't been looking too hard. Try some places like Lahore Karahi for authentic Pakistan, Carmine's for good priced Italian, Las Iguano's for Mexican, Rustico another Italian, Manchurian for Chinese. There's also Yatia if your feeling rich. Add to that the Amicus Apple, Ashvale Fish Restuarant or Bistro Verde if you like seafood. Viva Brazil is one for meat lovers. Aberdeen has an abundance of excellent restuarants that suit every taste and budget. Something that cannot be said for Inverness or, indeed, Perth. -
In light of the recent refusal to grant expansion of Glen Mhor hotel, which included a micro-brewery, do the local councillors have the future vibrancy and modernisation of the city at heart or are they happy being stuck in a city with no atmosphere and no attraction to the visitor. http://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/News/Glen-Mhor-hotelier-to-appeal-against-biased-Ness-Bank-brewery-refusal-24102014.htm I have visited many cities in UK and around the world and they all have a vibrancy. They all strive to give the visitor plenty of options be it shopping, site-seeing, variety of nightlife or just chilling in the open with a beer or a coffee. Inverness, just like its neighbour Perth has none of that. Indeed I sometimes feel that those running both highland cities have their heads still stuck in the sands of the fifties. Go to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling or Aberdeen and experience what a city is really like. Go to Inverness or Perth and live the dark ages. Mind you, perhaps we're getting all the highlander wants. A city of grimy pubs, bookies and charity shops. Perhaps its time the old fogies running our councils got their marching orders and made way for young thinking visionaries. The sort of people who can take short term ideas and turn them into long term benefits for the highland cities.

Is that the motto of Inverness planning committee?

Scottish Cup 2014/15 - Fourth Round (last 32)

Maybe so but over the long haul these things tend to balance out. Since 04/05 season, and not counting semi's, finals or replays, we've been drawn in 12 league cup home ties against 14 away. For Scottish cup its 17 home ties against 6 aways. Personally I think away ties are better for us. The away fans get more behind the team and 1200 or so at TCS makes the place pretty dead. -

Remember it well, it was notable for being the only time Darran Thomson made a worthwhile contribution! The match report from that game taken from this site: Victory snatched from the jaws of a goal-less draw. Caley Thistle spent most of the game pinned in their own half by a Saints side totally transformed by the new management team of Gus MacPherson and Andy Millen. Illness and injury played havoc with John Robertson’s team selection and the squad was stretched to the limit. The match was played amidst hail, sleet, rain and eventually driving snow but there was never any question of the 90 minutes not being completed. It all started slowly then in 15 minutes Saints claimed a penalty when Simon Lappin went down but play was waved on. Seconds later Mark Brown made the first of many fine saves when he dived to push away a John O’Neill header. The pressure on the visitors’ goal was relieved in 24 minutes with a break upfield and a free kick 30 yards out. Bobby Mann’s low ball was touched for a corner by Stevie Woods. Saints continued to press and just before the break Brown was at full stretch to collect a 15 yard chip from Ricky Gillies. Brown’s inspired form continued to deny Saints in the second half despite two good efforts from Gillies then in a rare venture on Woods’ goal Paul Ritchie hit a low shot wide. Brian McGinty had two chances in 62 minutes but he was foiled by Stuart Golabek then hit low past the post. The tide began to turn in the 74th minute when Mann headed past following a Liam Keogh corner then four minutes later Saints were stunned to lose a goal. David Bingham turned Kirk Broadfoot to create space then a neat flick set up Darran Thomson just outside the box. Woods managed to reach Thomson’s low shot but it rolled over the line for what proved to be the winner. It was very close to 2-0 just two minutes later when Keogh sent in a dangerous cross from the right. Ritchie ran into the box to reach it but his shot cleared the bar. Saints did not give up but their cause was not helped by a snow shower. In 86 minutes Grant Munro cleared a dangerous ball with Brown beaten then play switched to the other end. Ritchie won a corner on the right a minute over time then more precious seconds were wasted when a free kick was awarded close to the corner flag. The whistle went, Saints felt robbed but it was Caley Thistle who moved into the Quarter Final draw for the fourth time. Note Robbo's dilemma due to injury and illness yet we started with Brown, Tokely, Munro, Mann, Golabek, Thomson, McBain, Duncan, Keogh, Bingham and Ritchie. The season Brewster stopped our chance at the final. -

Think McCall could be heading back south. Rumour has it as assistant to Warnock at Palace.

Must have been the youngest ever defender at Hibs considering he was born in 44. Stanton was actually at Hibs from 63 - 76 before moving,as Mantis states, to Celtic for a couple of seasons. -
If Aberdeen beat Ross County tomorrow night then they will be on the same points tally as us also factoring that Kilmarnock and Dundee are 3 and 4 points behind us respectively. It's not ridiculous to say the next two games are must wins - they really are if we want to stake a claim in the top 3/top six Dont think so. We're on 23 and Aberdeen on 19 at the moment.

Could be he's not fit after midweek game. That aside who would you drop to make way for him.
