Caley Thistle hotshot Adam Rooney has been put on standby for Ireland's UEFA under-21 tournament qualifier with Estonia in his native Dublin on Tuesday, August 10. While it will be an honour for Caley Jags if Rooney is selected, the Ireland game is only four days ahead of our SPL opener with Celtic at Inverness so Terry Butcher would be keeping his fingers crossed that last season's First Division Player of the Year did not pick up an injury.
Rooney and the club have been notified by the FA of Ireland that he is on standby for the Estonia clash at Tallaght Stadium, home of Shamrock Rovers.
The news comes two years to the week since the rapid-scoring redhead joined Caley Jags after a week's trials after three years with Stoke City, including 15 first team appearances. He has two previous under-21 caps and in an under-19 international he fired a hat trick against Bulgaria.
