Graeme Shinnie

Sorry to see on Aberdeen FC website that Graeme Shinnie has signed a pre contract agreement and will join them in June. I would like to be one of the first to thank him for his service over the past 5/6 years at Inverness and wish him all the best in the future. (Unless playing against ICT)

  • Unfortunately (?), the days of Jim McLean and 25 year contracts with your first born being sent to sweep his chimney once a week are long gone .... lets face a few facts here ....   1. We get gates

  • Disagree. I saw him in the Union Square Nando's along with Hayes and Rooney setting fire to an ICT scarf.

  • Dear oh dear, someone's in a bad mood and you can tell someone's really raging when they right in capital letters!    Of course, not everyone brought in by Butcher/Marsella was a success.  Claude G

Compensation all depends on when we sign a player and how old he is when he leaves

So how old is Shinnie and do we get any compo from the sheep?

The rule is this: Training compensation shall be paid to a player’s training club(s): (1) when a player signs his first contract as a professional, and (2) each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday. The obligation to pay training compensation arises whether the transfer takes place during or at the end of the player’s contract. The provisions concerning training compensation are set out in Annexe 4 of these regulations.

Based on this we would certainly be due compensation if he moved during the transfer window as Graeme has been in the first team squad for a total of six years .... making his senior debut at the start of the 2009/10 season (age 17) after coming up from the U19s where he was for a year or two.

He was 23 in August 2014, part of the 2014/15 season but I have to wonder if Aberdeen are specifically waiting until after the end of the season so that compensation may not be due on a technicality? If he moves in January we would be due a healthy payout. If the Dons don't officially sign him until July or August (ie. at the start of the season where Graeme will be 24) are we still due something? I note that it mentions 'end of contract' but there is no indication of the timeline for this ..... clear as mud in other words !   Perhaps someone more in the know can enlighten us?

See here: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/01/95/83/85/regulationsstatusandtransfer_e.pdf

Page 23 has the rule and pages 60-65 have the small print of the rule !

You know where you stand with Shinnie and that 100%

There's no point getting hung up on next season when there's still a lot to play for in this one.

Regarding 2015-16 who's to say Aberdeen will do better than us.
