The Big Scottish Independence Debate
Scarlet Pimple replied to Laurence's topic in Serious Discussion
Either way it's a fait accompli now. That vote is going ahead, regardless, in a few days time! That's why, when you start a hare running you had better be pretty certain that that hare will cross the finishing line ahead of the rabbits, foxes, racoons and cockroaches. No offence intended ..just hyperbole. -

Doofers Dad So you think my comment about Servitude versus freedom was ridiculous, eh? As I posted it I had visions of Mel Gibson crying out something similar in his movie Braveheart and he was spot-on in them thar days wasn't he? But you will find out soon enough as to what I meant. Vote "no" and you will enhance the sense of superiority and power that the likes of Cameron and his ilkalready have. "No" will send a clear signal that Scotland will ALWAYS henceforth be under his control and jackboot whilst he increases his use of the revenue about to flow into Scotland from oil after a YES vote is recorded. Meanwhile throwing crumbs to the Scots from his groaning table laden with sparklingnew loads of money coming over the border in a steady unrelenting stream, always headed south but rarely north. In short, by increasing his iron grip on the powers allocated to the nation's people to pursue their own decisions and dreams, he continues to impose complete control over their lives whilst milkingthem to death of their riches. For EVER. That's servitude in my book. For EVER. DD , you were born in England and naturally have English roots and a deeper sense of loyalty to all things English. My father was English, born and bred, and a fine man but I was born in Scotland and more closely identify with Scotland, it's past, it's future and the possible stifling of all things Scottish by it's continuing to allow the southern political parasites to control our future destiny. Scotland must now go-it-alone, grasp the nettle, forge ahead and NEVER look back. VOTE YES! IF Scotland votes "YES" that will send the very opposite signal--Freedom for the Scots to make their own decisions free of Westminster's stifling, condescending attitudes. Their own say in the cost of doing business and the size of the taxes to be levied. A smaller unit of government to be handled whichshould allow for an easier and quicker turn around in the decision-making process and the quicker implementation of the decisions arrived at , leading to a quicker recognition whether or not the changes just implemented are correct or otherwise. And so forth and so on. That sound an awful lot like more freedom to me. -

Now you are thinking! Although the likes of that pretty boy, unscrupulous Cameron will have gone, the Westminster-ites will never forget it if the vote is a narrow defeat for the yes voters and they, and their like-minded politicians, will move heaven and earth to make sure that their cushy life-style is NEVER threatened again. Oh my goodness, did you think that the issue was about something else.....? To date they rarely think of Scotland but this vote will strongly focus their eyeballs on the Scottish scene and, one way or the other, it won't be with love in their hearts I can assure you. This is last chance gulch coming up and the Indians in the Southern states are trying to block the pass as hard as they can. Your choice is simple: servitude or freedom. -
Shane has the bustle but, well, perhaps lacks the finish. Comments please?

Yep! Good post, Bughtmaster. Early days I said Tansey was a man to watch and now he is settling in I expect he may be the next man of the match. Stevie May has had his haircut but hasn't yet had his first game for his new club--er, or did he get it today I wonder?- 141 replies

Well, I would suggest that under the influence of his father he will turn out just fine.

I am really pleased for our new manager at today's results. Shows that once the players listen to him and try to work the system as a team then the sky's the limit. Yogi works hard, I think, and his heart is in the right place and we should wish him all success. He certainlty has paid his dues to football !

Well, you never know. An English Club is making overtures to get Kris Commons from Celtic. He scored another opportunist goal today. If they lose him they sure will regret it. And if they lose him before they entertain us then we could slaughter them. Wouldn't that be something .He is skilled, strong and a powerful player with an inspiring influence on his team.- 141 replies

Bughtmaster, That rotating ball of fire was just IHE doing his thing to impress the laddies--oops , sorry, ---- ladies. He was shimmering. And why, on this occasion was he not hanging from the ceiling--why, on this occasion he wasn't ...high. O.K. Now I'm for it...

That's what I like about you IHE -- rarely explain what's what. But, aha! That's the old Caley Ballroom isn't it? Why is it smaller than what I remember and much more Spartan to boot? Sarcastic replies are permitted.

Jim Furd The caps lock thing has made my life a misery 'cos I am vision impaired and hit two keys at once always.. here is what I did ...got a piece of paper, folded it to thicken it and pushed it down the left side of the caps button. Then sellotaped/scotchtaped it to the underside of the keyboard to stabilise it and stop it from moving. Works a charm when nothing else did. Cheers.

A speculative crowd of about 3,000 went to Tulloch to suss out this season's team.Hmmmmm. But will this crowd now increase or reduce? Question:- Assuming it is unlikely to increase considerably on the average, how can the club bring in quality players unless the revenue from T V or other sources increases?

So John is asking the players to play possession football as a priority over flair and forward drive just to stop the opposition getting the ball? Is he playing for draws or wins then? Paul Harley is playing it cagey? New job, new Division and needs to size up the scene and his new players. Quite smart actually. That means, as the season progresses, Hamilton will improve under his control. So which of the two clubs do you fancy for going back down-- Dundee or Hamilton? Currently neither! Why? Because both are showing more spunk than Ross County. Ross County are mercurial, I think.---now you se them , now you don't, now they are top then they are bottom. In short ,a lack of consistency will relegate you in this league.

Christie delivers such a neat pass doesn't he? Finesse written all over them.

I notice from the stats at the foot of the pages that the number of members of this website is growing. Also, that there are more overseas participants. I wonder how many members are located overseas? And of those how many are in Canada and the U.S.?

In the Women's under 20 international match Canada, playing against Finland, brought on two subs within minutes of each other in the second half and both subs scored within 3-5 minutes of taking the field. That brought the score back to par 2-2 and made the game far more interesting. Final score was Canada 3 Finland 2. Good game .

The U S dollar is sound currency in North American countries and also in Ukraine and probably in Russia too. In Ukraine it's not that they are not printing the Hrivna any more but that it's value fluctuates so much with all the disturbances and general mayhem occurring in that part of the world that the US dollar is accepted as good value for money and as a more stable currency of exchange for goods. Wouldn't it be great if the whole world was on the same value system and currency? -

The Scottish banks still have their Fiduciary issues , so called, which sets a limit to which they can issue their own Scottish bank notes without depositing a coin into the bank of England as backing. But once that limit is reached then they have to deposit some money of value ..maybe gold or silver or even Bank of England notes.. to back the issue of their notes over that limit. This could be tricky, the money issue, however: What I am wondering is how all this may affect my DSS pension payment which I assume will still be deposited into my Scottish Bank account once per month? What if Scotland chooses not to continue with the pound then what currency would they use? And what currency would the, then English, pounds deposit be made in? i.e would the Royal Bank of Scotland exchangeit at the rate prevailing on the date of each deposit and , of course, how would that then be converted to Canadian dollars if not in pounds when I draw it off for my own use in Canada by means of cashing acheque in Canada Most importantly, at what rate of exchange would this take place? It follows that if Scotland chooses to use Scottish pounds then that is going to cost the banks a bundle. If the SCOTTISH pounds are not viewed in the currency exchange markets as valuable as (English) sterling money then at what exchange rate will the market post for exchanges into and from any other currency, especially , in my case, Canadian dollars. And, if I lose a bundle as a result, can I sue the new Scottish Government? My guess is that New Scotland (heh, that's Nova Scotia in Canada) will continue with "British" sterling as is. +....??? -
In comparison to John Hughes Terry B is quoted above as eloquent , charismatic etc. And what a bright spark he turned out to be didn't he? Loyal to a fault et al...........NOT. Hughes in his own way, in full flood , is equally eloquent and at first sight a darn sight more honest and trustworthy. At least with him, fluffs aside, he appears to be someone with the characteristics of ..."what you see is what you get". I think what he said is merely an off the cuff remark more intended to lower expectation and in order to hide his real ambitions and not appear to be overly cocky.

Do-able! And hopefully a good pay day for the club.
