  1. Dougal, If you are a squirrell then I'm off fer a Jimmy Rid.le. But you might look a lot cuter than we think, judged by your querulous quips, your quick reactions, rakish manners and rapacious wit. And squirrels are also curious, cuddly and click-aholics and you just love to be on this site. ...go on! Admit it. 'And if you don't like schoolboy humour then you are really getting old. It's those who don't lose their child-like sense of humour that don't get so stressed out and retain a youthful attitude to the upsets and vicissitudes of life. Isn't that right IHE? I learnt very early on in my youth that those who were the most ridiculously zany (e.g Monty Python) were usually the brightest guys around. And, if you ever want to become a member of the Pimpernell clan, then you will have to change and get levity in your life--it's the best defence against the cruel jibes that come your way....first of all it confuses the enemy, then they think you are either nuts or certifiable and don't know what to say next, then you rock 'em and sock' em when they least expect it, Game , set and match.First lesson of survival, like. OOOOHHHHHMMMM!
  2. OOPS! First time I've seen a spud with chicken pox.
  3. Showing your age Bughtmaster. You remember "Wotno!" I thought he was from my younger era, like Biggles. And Spread Eagle on the BBC Children's hour on the Home Service wireless. Gosh, at that young age I thought looking at the word Schenectady on the wireless dial meant that I was trying to tune in to a broadcaster in Switzerland. Now I know it's close to New York, U.S.A. That was in the era when I used a torch to signal messages in Morse Code from the front bedroom in Dunain Road to my pal in his house opposite on Telford Gardens. Oops! Off topic. Sorry.
  4. Your last comment was clever, Yngwie. Laughing Hyenas? -goodness, what's next?
  5. How long was he with Hibs?
  6. More like a touch of youthful enthusiasm and naivety rather than anything else I think. The management of our club should contact tyhem and offer them a few free tickets to our next home match with tea and cakes in the Boardroom at half time and THAT would make a lot of friends I know.
  7. Keep at it John Hughes. You're the man . Not happy to note that Richie has tweaked his knee. A tweak in the knee is akin to a broken rib as far as I am concerned. Except that the rib can be healed within 4-6 weeks. The knee, however, could be very difficult to heal and no doubt he is getting intensive attention from the medics. Wouldn't it be nice if we handily beat Brummie 0-5 with a team on fire and scything through their defence at will. If Scotty or Don said that we should not under-estimate the reputation of ICT down south, then that would enhance it greatly wouldn't it? Then trialists from the younger element coming up would be very keen to come North upon request.
  8. By the way, how many of you know that today Canada is just 147 years old. It has a population of about 35 million with a square footage that is incalculable. One province alone, British Columbia, is 1.5 times the size of France. Yet we talk about stuff in any other city, (other than Vancouver) as if it is next door. Flying thousands of miles to Toronto, for example, means that we might take more time getting to and from the local airport than the length of flight itself. The Trans Canada highway stretches from the pacific Ocean to the other side of the country without a break. The differences in the physical properties of each Province is matched only by the differences in the climatic changes. e.g Tornadoes were threatened recently in Toronto when we were basking in lovely sunny weather here on the West coast. As a matter of fact, there has been some talk of merging the three cities of Vancouver, in Canada, Seattle (named See-attle after one of the past very prominent Indian Chiefs hereabouts) another large west coast port just down the road from us in the U.S. and Portland ,Oregon , also in the U.S., to form a new territory named Cascadia. The latter two cities are situated in Washington State which must be differentiated from Washington , District of Columbia, which is on the East coast.--i.e where the WhiteHouse is. That name, Cascadia, comes from the mountains in this district of the West Coast of North America called the Cascades . I think it is more fantasy than anything. All three cities would merge just dandy since we are more or less all North-Americanised and have similar life-styles and all three are beautiful places to live. But Mr Obama would have a heart attack if he thought he was going to lose these two cities. The U S also has a large naval facility at Bremerton also in Washington State here in the North West so...nah....maybe a merger of the football teams though... Last time I went to Oregon I went out in the midday sun on the lovely beaches there and paid a heavy price--sunstroke and delirium and the shivers at night. Never again. Hope you enjoy the footie on the T.V. then and let's keep into touch..eh? Scarlet
  9. It's annual Canada Day holiday here in La La Land so my wife is off out with the ladies ona shopping binge or summat, and I'm stuck at home to watch the cup matches. Of course I would rather be out shopping but just handed over the wallet instead and called off with a bad knee... Ha! Great matches on too --things are revving up....atmospheres are fantastic. Stadiums looking good and the locals are having a....ball. Pity the underdogs don't always win , eh? Germany sure had a lot of possession yesterday but looked very strained at the end just prior to getting that first goal. I can't believe the heat there. It would be impossible to play at all without water, guys. You know that.
  10. Watched the Germany match today. Man oh man are these players fit or what? That was some match I must say. Pulsating even.
  11. Dougal is Laurence.? Nahh! Totally different persons. Laurence, as he frequently reminds us, was, in the past, a top Fireman who concentrated on putting out fires; But Dougal seems to have a perpetual habit of starting them --at least on here? The one thing they DO have in common, though, is that they are both irrepressible, irridescent and some say,at times, irritating.
  12. Dog-gone it, mantis you're on the ball. With Suarez out, the other teams are all now... chomping ...at the... bit. If you can lip read really well you can make out what these other guys are saying . Like the German, whojust missed scoring..."Sh.te" he mouthed in perfect English. Looks like our native language has caught on then...?
  13. Go on , chums ....Plunge into ever-ever land instead of never never land as it exists today in Scotland. The old saying comes to mind-- "The river, if taken at the flood, leads on to greatness.". And this river may greatly reduce in its flow if you DON'T vote "yes". Because it's running strong just now but of you vote "no" then Cameron and his friends will ensure that this will never happen again and I don't mean because he will shower us Scots with baubles and beads. Eventually he will cut your throats if he can..mark my words. Why do you think I emigrated to the new world - Canada-- over forty years ago? Because I was caught up in the stifling, retarded and controlling thinking of the day all these long years ago when you could not move upwards or onwards without risking severe censure if you dared to ask when you were going to get promoted. That was a challenge to AUTHORITY and not seen as an indication of the fact that maybe, just maybe, you were little more than a likely lad with normal ambition who needed the parry and thrust of an environment that rewarded effort and encouraged further education and upward mobility. So that, at least, there was SOME goal ahead that appeared to be reasonably accessible. Emigrating is a challenge and you and your and your attitudes have to change to survive. There is prejudice also to contend with when the incumbents of the new country think that you may be a threat to their upward mobility and instead of helping you they decide to thwart you if they can. This proves to be a daunting emotional challenge but, within all the disruption and shattered concepts that you landed with, you gradually see that upward mobility coming to fruition, thanks to some wonderful people that you are fortunate to meet along the way, and eventually you find your own level of success. In the Scotland I knew, if you DARED to move-on you were well, er, frowned upon. What a waste of energy and talent. And what a stifling existence. In Canada, if you are not prepared to move from one company to another, or "move-on" as they euphemistically say, (maybe a complete change of career, like I did) then you have only yourself to blame for a boring life and lost opportunity. Isn't that right Scotty? Go for it, chums and make it happen, not expect it to do so! Or to put it succinctly, accept this change as the best thing since sliced bread and run as hard as you can with the ball.
  14. Well these newbie teams from all points East of England are sure showing us that we no longer are the best or the most skilled. It's just amazing how the "rest of the world" seems to have caught on and caught up. And they do bring a breezy splash of colour don't they.
  15. IHE...''I don't Twitter so...." You and me both Itchy, except the time we spend on here really which oft times could be seen to be a twittering orgy...
  16. Starchief, in your post post 507 you said........ Agree? May I ask why? Hibs was a great opportunity for him to show what he is made of yet he also did not pull the chestnuts out of the fire. And at the end he appeared to quit--- i.e he gave up. So did he lose" the dressing room as well? And, if yes, why?
  17. I think it is obvious that Brora are committed to moving right along whatever road they can handle, so long as it is upwards?
  18. Ach, Bughtmaster, all you are trying to do is wind-up old Scarlet. Is that a wind-ow into how you think? But you do say it with gust-ow, though, so keep up the good work.
  19. When Laurence is going fast on his horse in Arabia it's "now you see him now you don't". "Gone with the Wind", like.
  20. Lucky sods! Seems a progressive team and should be a good workout for the boys.
  21. With a lost dressing room and a personality that clearly showed that he would also throw players under the bus if things did not improve in the short term he was cooked from the start. Empathy and diplomacy seems to have gone under that bus as well as far as his motivational efforts were concerned. It has also occurred to me that the Hibs players sussed him out even before he arrived at Easter Road. They knew the background to his arrival and the way it was , IMHO, engineered well in advance of his departure from ICT. If I am correct, they did not trust him from the start and contempt for the man after he sat in the stand with the Hibs management to watch the last Hibs V ICT game could have made them really cynical about this fella. Especially when he threatened their jobs.... that was probably the final straw for the players and the straw that broke Terry butcher's management back. The Hibs players did seem to work very hard to rescue the season but psychologically it's very probable that their heart was not in it under TB . And that MAY be one of the significant reasons why Leann dumped him before the new season started. As I said before, she is an intuitive person I think and realised that for the Hibees T B was a loser. J Hughes is a straight shooter compared to T Butcher and we are finally lucky that all has been revealed in the comparison between the two Managers.
  22. Yngwie Post 87--the S P wasn't around as far back as that---sniff! ....... Australia game against Chile was the most uplifting and stimulating. And I was surprised at how good the Aussies were. And unlucky at times. Chile , I believe, are ranked 3rd in the world and their ball control, passing and pace were eye-opening. Brazil game was mostly boring as anything and if they win this tournament SP will be amazed. Mind you, the pressure on them and the screaming crowds must be difficult to handle but they will settle down. The Netherlands game---oh my! Well, every dog has it's day and with Italy having had a great run over the years it's, hopefully time to ring the changes and give the other lot(s) a chance since variety is the spice of life. Yesterday for me was something of a sporting bonanza with the games of the World cup and, in the evening, the 5th game of the Ice Hockey Stanley Cup Final underway in Los Angeles --the L.A. Kings versus the new York Rangers. It Took two ivertime periods in a marathon 3 hour battle for the Kings to finally score the winn8ing goals and bedlam is still reiygning in L.A. I think. Some of the games in this Final have been incredible and the all-out, everything or nothing approach for both skilled and very fit teams has led to a blistering pace that was really unbelievable to watch. One player was clocked skating at 39.5 MPH which was slightly faster than my first car could go when I bought my 1935 MG in Norbury, South London, in or around 1959. In defense of my lovely yellow MG Sport Tourer with lovely red upholstery, it had been flogged to death and broke down at the first lights I came to as I proudly drove out of the dealership. It had cost me 21 years' savings of 100 pounds and the dealer must have taken pity on my tear stained cheeks since he gave me 50 pounds back when I returned it and asked for a refund.
  23. Macshimidh Exactly .i.e teams probably have sussed us and Billy.
  24. Dunno! Maybe because I misread the quote as being partly yours. 'Cos this thread has got my head upside down , my emotions in a whirl and my emoticoms going berserk Oh an before I forget when I now click on the "SHOW ALL" for emoticoms nothing happens when I try to ouick up one of tyhem and paste it into the thread? Can someone please assist in this challenging situation?
  25. My emotions on this are no longer stable. Revenge is not one of my active traits because life is short and it has little positive about it . So for him.... Best to move on to more productive things. Bit if he is gone the question for T. B. is.....what have I learned from this disaster and is my head and my definition and commitment to loyalty one iota smaller and more clearly defined, respectively?
