Those who decry Gretna's rise forget the trials and tribulations of ICT. A cheer for a minnow who made it regardless of who paid the bill. What the **** are all these leagues for anyway unless there is a golden rainbow at the end of it for someone with the vision and courage to dream amd try and try and try. And in the process Miles nearly died--remember that. He was so sick at the last game of the season prior to their triumphant entry into the SPL that he could hardly drag one foot after the other and looked at death's door. I salute you Miles, you had a dream and put your money where your mouth was and it is as clear as a pikestaff that the man loves the game and his club. Stop laughing at this club because there but for the grace of God go I ! :020:

Would not be prepared to lick his boots? :crap02:

Amazing how United fortunes have taken such an upward turn. Their confidence must now be sky-high. Hopefully ICT's fortunes will rise in tandem with Dundee United as their own confidence grows from this point onwards. Why not? Gretna looks a demoraliseds outfit --Davie Irons will need to have some really good irons in the fire to pull out to make a difference otherwise his problems will not be ironed out effectively. :bomb: Isnt it also eerie how Gretna's progress in the lower divisions mirrored that of ICT even to the promotion -decider being the last game of the season" But at that point their progress seems to be different having ...well..er...slowed up apace.

Two excellent posts Scotty. I particularly liked item number 7 in the first post. Like an arrow going through the centre of the bull. Scotty is right, it's the excitement, fun and atmosphere that counts and you have a hard time achieving that with a half empty, dead quiet stadium. Although sometimes it gets a bit wearing here in North America, all the razz-ma-taz and promotional gimmicks do work and they also do let the fans know that the team needs their money and support and Management is at least trying to get them in the door. Reducing prices should be a priority, if at all possible. 8,000 fans at , say, 15 pounds each is much better all round than 5,000 at 20 pounds each. Who would not rather be in amongst a big crowd than a small one sharing the anticipation and excitement. And even if you do lose at least you feel that you have had a good time and it hasn't cost you an arm and a leg. As Scotty says, the bottom line is a sense of appreciation from Management and a sens eof having received value for money.

:003: I always thought Proctor was a good player. Did he not have a sterling run a year or so ago in the left back positon?. Now he is back good luck to him. He is slimly built but tall is he not?

Because it was the last game of the season and that heightened the atmosphere. As I recall if ICT had lost they would not have been the team to win the League and so the helicopter was hovering above some Sco :002:ttish peak awaiting directions as to which park to fly to...LOL

Going back, texting is fine if :- 1. You are desperate 2. Can get nothing on the radio ; Setanta won't even answer emailed letters to them asking them if you can pay for either online audio or video service . 3. Youv'e got up at 6 or 7 a.m in rainy Vancouver to troll the net and..... you are desperate. Reading between the lines we seem to have never recovered from the loss of Dodds, for a variety of reasons....and....we are just not getting the breaks. That, is if you don't think that "not getting the breaks" is usually because we simply did not do enough to deserve them. If Marius can't get around to plonking them in what are the alternatives? Keep playing him till the cows come home, drop him for a few games or find another "good footballer '' at half his overall wages to scamper around in the forward area. If it is the first option just how long is Senior Management going to be content to pay the top half of his wage packet out of their own (business?) pocket? If NOT indefinitely then does that mean he will be placeed on the transfer list in due course.? Now there's athought... :024:

:015: Just so long as PP does not stand for poo poo... :002:

Stepping stone to bigger things--as in John Robertson...? :003:

CMIB To be truthful I did not remember that the two, Pete and Bobby, played on the same line. Toothless Bobby sweated profusely whilst Peter always seemed to dance along on his toes. You are probably right about the positioning ; there you go. As for Belle in Duncan on Vancouver Island you may be interested to learn that the island is huge-I once travelled it by car on a two-week holiday with my son and topped a rise in the road to see trees which seemed to go on forever into the horizon which was quite a view--logging was very strong there at one time but many logging operations have closed over the years. Mills too of course with thousands losing their livelihood.

Tichy Black Just a final comment. Don's sister was named Anita. Am I right? :014:

The stalwart Bobby Bolt in the centre half position came to Caley as his Ranger's days started to ebb away. Must have settled in Inverness because his son Bobby also played for Caley.Jim Smith also played in goal for a short while at that time--he's now in Canada;his sister Mary is my sister's best friend since they were 5 years old. That was the Ginger Mackenzie and Peter MacKinnon era. Pete was a great centre half, muscled to the max but as nimble-footed a player as you will ever see. I heard he is resting in a home on Fairfield Road these days--beautiful kind man,I will never forget him. Oh well, moving right along..

Tichy Black What a thrill, not to mention a surprise, to read your post. If Don Callum is indeed your Uncle please try to get him to become a member on here and I would love to hear from him by email. He will get a surprise too when he finds out who lurks under Mr Pimple's cloak? Just tell him I lived at 46 Dunain Road at that time. :021: He was a well-built lad , that I do recall ,as well as the fact that his Dad was also called Don--does that resonate with you..? I have lost touch with almost every person that I knew as a teenager in the fifties so it would be great to start finding out what happened to many of them Cheers Roderick

No problem IHE. As I said, takes all kinds...! If only Caley could give out his telephone number I could have him check the postss for grammirr and punchewashun and speelning too maybe.... :003: He is dead right though.... S.P. is verbose, I keep talking to him about it but, as always, he's got a mind of his own, telling me that KISS means Keep Independently Serene Silly instead of Keep it Simple Sam . Dearie, dearie..as Rank Bajin in the Comic Strip Shuggy used to say..."Life get's tejious, don' it?" or was that Britney Spears...eh? :comp03:
-
Sophia--er... what does Mr PP mean . I have seen this a few times but Esperanto is not my first language. :003: If it was in vancouver it would be easy--just Pan Pacificirlines or something like thath but....? About increasing his wages--after Marios 's controversial package would that put the nail in the proverbial ICT "same for all" policy do you think? :029:

About a year ago I thought about trying to find a proxy since I had read about it. However I did not really know or understand what it meant or how it worked or how to contact one so I just quit thinking about it. I am sure if Scotty can be more successful we all will be the first to hear about it.. :016:

OLd Gits United . LOL Watt a nice thread. All on the same page mostly. Solidarity forever. :028:

Backup, eh? But for whom? Ghosts? :rolleyes02:

4,000 pounds a week ,huh? Hmmmmmm! Let's see--thats about $416,000 Canadian per year --yeah that will be about 80% of the average cost of a 3 bedroom house in Vancouver, British Columbia, Western Canada. So that means that after two or three years in the SPL he can retire to La La Land. See you soon Marius. Have your yacht ready at False Creek Marina . Er--I wonder what that will work out to in dollars per goal: Well, let's see-------- :024:
-
Aye--I saw that Alex. Well, it takes all kinds....and that's why we have a Pimple on board. Sigh... :016:

IHE--you were pished--and you had your new shades on :015:

There you go IHE, you are referring to the Ides of March, the 7th March, my birthday believe it or not . :022: The Ides can also be the 15th , depending on how the Roman Calendar depicted events I believe--Charles, can we have a formal review of this important date? Probably explains my intense interest in all things football not to mention the history of football in Inverness. S'great, mon. :014: :sillywave:

When I read the Birdog's last post I immediately saw..."legal thighs" and thought ...well, that's O.K. then, that's one drug I can live with. :016: But choking aside, with or without laughter, this thread has now either run out of steam or people are simply grasping at straws to keep it going. Because it has everything..passion, heated debate, hypocrisy in spades, misguided or indecisive thoughts, hyperbole, rife speculation, and...finally...a degeneration into some kind of platform on which we can observe, understand, consider buying or not, using or not, any kind of substance -a new ICT Wikipedia on drug stuff? Such that I have to agree with a poster who said...this thread is hilarious. Also sad . I think it is in fact much ado about nothing and in 6 months' time will be well-nigh forgotten. What RH said to ICT many months ago "in camera" is pure speculation. So only the club knows whether he lied or not.So none of us on here can say "fire him for that". Has he brought the club into disrepute.? If you say yes then please explain why? What he did was personal and no one has suggested that the club condoned clandestinely or openly any of his private actions. The question of whether he did, or did not, is pure speculation and anyway such a condition is invariably dependent upon where the club's interests lie, the interests of sponsors lie and last but no means least where the interests of the fans lie. "When you hear a man speak" the saying goes "consider his interests". If the club fire him out of hand I suggest that it will be on the basis only of their financial interests which they think have been compromised in some way but not necessarily on unimpeachable very high moral grounds supported by what a majority of fans or shareholders consider to be an unforgivable mistake .Because the latter basis would be little more than a hypocritical claim that they are the only ones who are perfect which they cannot claim to be true and retain credibility. And the club would have to prove by reference to the terms of his contract whether he is in breach of same. Does the contract contain a specific reference to possession of a legal substance as grounds for summary dismissal? And, if so, does the alleged possession have to be proved in a Court of Law to carry weight as grounds for dismissal? If this incident is generally known to be an isolated one it would be foolish in my view for ICT to try to take the high moral ground and act accordingly in a punitive way. There can be little doubt that increasing this 26-year old player's misery can serve little useful purpose. What I feel would be the correct course for the club to initiate is to warn the player in writing about future conduct and spell out the consequences of any future similar situations in no uncertain terms. If anything I agree with the suggestion that a public acknowledgement of the indiscretion with an apology would go a long way to pour oil on troubled waters and it could be accompanied by school visits from time to time. The effect of obliging RH to consider these actions will continue to impress on him the perceived seriousness of his "offence" since he is a public figure and remind him of the vulnerability of his future which he himself has brought on himself. Then it is up to him. Taking into account the player's past efforts and promise on the park I feel that an effort should be made to psychologically assist him in every way to rehabilitate his situation and if this occurs what can be gained by not affording him the opportunity to eventually get back into the first team. This is the positive route. Then everybody wins and the Management of ICT look very good indeed as the wise and successful rehabilitators, mentors and smart business people. After all, the years of work, use of physical resources and wage payments invested in the player is a company asset which should not be wasted willy nilly without a positive attempt to turn the situation around first. Unless, of course, ICT has money to burn --in which case they can take the route of negativity, of the cutting of perceived losses whilst they are ahead, of the use of punitive and over-the-top action against the player and the risk of an expensive lawsuit by Mr Hart against ICT for wrongfull dismissal . IMHO the loser's route. :buttkick: Which route would you take ?
