  1. Nothing wrong with the idea. I wanted ICT to come to Canada for purely selfish reasons since they would almost certainly come to Vancouver, home of the Whitecaps (a reference to the breakers on the Pacific coast here) who long ago won the then North American soccer league ,and the cup before a crowd of some 30,000 in New York as I recall. As for the money the US is probably a better bet--much larger population and a growing interest in "soccah" spurred on by the recent World Cup. Knowing the yankee personality it won't be long before they want to get more of the action and they are more favoured to spend money than the somewhat more canny Canadians. Amnericans pour money into sport, baseball, National Football (not soccer) League and the National Hockey League to a lesser degree perhaps. But the tremendous interest and the stunning worldwide coverage of the World cup cannot have gone un-noticed by the U.S whose citizens are not afraid to spend money to make money... Anyway love to see you guys.... :clapping04:
  2. I agree with the last post. The next few games must be treated with the urgency they deserve and the importance of them cannot be understated. Thorough preparation, clearly understood tactics and major effort is mandatory now or a losing trend may become a reality and not just a temporary phenomenon and very difficult to overcome. :007:
  3. Then, is it a touch of nerves ? And perhaps Rankin is not quite up to the pace or urgency of the SPL yet especially against a "top" team such as Hearts. Also has his role been made clear to him-the statements about his alleged anonymity seem to indicate he may be a bit lost out there. ? Just asking.... :006:
  4. The use of Scumdee in reference to Dundee United is bothering me. We talk about cutting out abuse from one poster to another since we are supposed to be trying to heighten the tone of the communications because we are progressing up the Leagues and we are trying to encourage families and youngsters to associate more closely with the club. So what about referring to clubs by their proper name? Some posters may not like C Brewster or one or two players but the club itself goes way back and to refer to the club in this way is unreasonable and abusive even if the use of the word scum is probably more thoughtless than vicious. What about scunner-Dee instead? Eh :011:?
  5. Donview How are you.?haven't seen your positive chuff stuff for a while. :003:
  6. Ticket prices are too high. Nothing much will change, I predict ,unless greater marketing efforts are made by the club. Youngsters must be encouraged to come to the games.... :011:
  7. Not to mention starting the car in the morning with a starting handle... and not forgetting to **** your thumb so that if the handle kicks back the thumb does not get injured.
  8. Charles--Aye!--make mine a "sparkling special". And don't forget Ration Books --came in during the early 1940's and disappeared early fifties if I recall correctly. Trying to get going in the morning after getting out of bed when arthritis in the feet is a problem--ulp! Ha! :005:
  9. Mantis --thanks for your comment; I will "bare" it in mind :001: IHE--This is not a lost cause but an understanding wife can help. Also Doctors are not experts in the condition, believe me-- so go figure it all out for yourself. Metamusil promotes daily procedures which are a must for improvement since stools must be kept soft--if you try to sit on them though they will collapse so sit on the toilet seat instead--it's usually plastic, not wood :015: Final thought-- lying on your back with your bottie on a cushion and with your feet quite high up the wall is helpful--the side benefit from this is that the blood that otherwise would pool in your nether regions goes directly to your head and promotes new hair growth--and the relief is a blessing... Just trying to be helpful... :015:
  10. I can hardly imagine that a true fan can still be so bitter after the merger that they stay away--i.e. this is simply cutting off your nose to spite your face. Had the merger not taken place how could either team have had a serious future with a "combined attendance total of about 600"? Club promotion is the answer because it is positive. Dwelling on the past and saying that "change should not be allowed" is bizarre since there is change in everything every minute of the day. :006:
  11. How to fill up a thread--lots of blue quotations !!! Mesmerising. :012:
  12. Blackieforce, being defiant listening to the half time scores won't change them I'm afraid..... :003: C'mon are you Marty in disguise? :002:
  13. :clapping04: Praise where praise is due!!! :015:
  14. High prices for houses translate into high mortgages, meaning less disposable income. then comes feeding the bairns etc . Football is a luxury these days for a family man. One retired man in Inverness emailed me in response to my query''are you going to ICT today? and said " are you kidding, have you seen their prices?" Read into that what you may. It is true that every business must energetically market the product or service in order to have a chance of progress, let alone success. ICT must do the same ............ :006:
  15. Clicked om "more Smileys " and my computer crashed--lost post---so I will try again. No SPL2 16 teams in SPL. No splits; no play-offs--this is just for more money for the clubs I think. Two up ans two down is a must. Kill hope for other clubs and Scottish Football will continue to struggle --to it's demise maybe. If there is not enough money in the game increase the size of the leagues and players may have to take a cut in pay......and if that is a problem I suggest that kids stay at school and complete an apprenticeship in some trade before starting a full-time football career. Then they have something to fall back on if and /or when things don't work out or they get injured etc. :017:
  16. If Russell Latapy is still haring around the pitch at age 38 or so and commanding the play all over the park then why on earth will Mr Dods not be able to maintain his fitness level and command his turf just as well in the future? The bottom line is that 25K or 35K is a very speculative but rather insulting figure for him based on his performance of last season and it may be "nothing personal , only business ", for D.U but I could not imagine ICT will give such an offer anything more than an irritated sniff. Money must be really tight at Tannadice ! Whew! 35K ?.................... :015:
  17. Absolutely---unless you get on her bad side. Arrgh. Oops, that hurt. Stoppit, oooh that was a corker--poor old Scarlet is still smarting from the verbal lashings of yore; but she is one of us ----so there. :016:
  18. Aussie _lad I like the cut of your jib. Any poster that can put a bit of salt on IHE's tail deserves a cursory flick of the eyebrow. But doooo watch out for FWife, Currently she is having a thing with JB but I don't think anything is going to come of it. Have to ask her hubby about that though....although, I muse, your direct and breezy approach might work with this one...hmmmm....I like her jib aussie (no pun intended). :002: And Mee, pray tell, who is on your list of mentally unstable punters on this site.....? :016: Finally, Aussie Lad, if you get bored you can always go to Skara Brae up there and gaze out over the ocean of freezing water and dream of the Caley park. Then drift intae the toon and walk along the cobbles to the jetty with teh Shetland boat tied up there--onwards then to Up Hellie 'A or whatever, as a prelude to the ICT versus Rangers match.... :015:
  19. C'mon Bayne--anyone with Bayne, MacBayne or MacBean as their name must be good and far too many people who think they have ability flatter to deceive. Give me a hard grafter every day. EVERY day. And keep the ball on the deck so that controversy cannot arise as to who can head the 'ba or not heid the 'ba.... :clapping04:
  20. This raises several issues: Has Mr Sutherland painted himself into a corner with his previous statement? My opinioon is simply ..no. He preserved ICT's right not to trade or discuss a transfer for those players who figure in the club's plans. Dods still is in contention for a place and...regardlesss of the action off the park.....he would be well advised to produce his very best if he is favoured by being in the team on the park. What has he to gain by doing otherwise? It serves no useful purpose for the Managerment to pout and play childish--in fact the Management of ICT over the past few seasons does not appear to have this trait at all. At the same time it is chawing for them to put up with Mr Brewster's cantrips and persistence when he does not want to pay the asking price. How many times can you say no, we want our asking price, before you really start to get upset? The bottom line here is a very simple situation: 1. Brewster--persuade Thompson to pay ICT's price and then complain only if ICT don't allow Dods to go. Whether we like it or not, the situation has gone too far for Dods to ever really feel at home here again in my opinion and I feel that if Brewster offered a FAIR price for a man who has played very well last season ICT could see their way to agree to the transfer--but why the hairoil should they give a player a chance, grease his wheels and meet their commitment to him contractwise and then roll over and die just for another quitter like Brewster who does not have the interests of ICT at heart at all. If they do what kind of a precedent is that setting. 2. If Brewster will not increase the "derisory" offer give Dods one more chance to play in the first team and advise him of the club's expectations. Failing a full commitment from him put him in the reserves, agree to transfer him and let him go to the highest possible bidder within their price range. This is a firm and fair approach since contracts must be respected and players who cannot understand that even in this day and age can then in the future decide whether they want to play for a team that has standards of morality to which they are willing to subscribe. 3.The team must set the tone of the debate and the decision, not the player. The player seeks to better himself but this also applies to the team of ICT who in addition have a responsibility to the paying public, especially those who have supported ICT through thick and thin. 4. Whether a player wants to be closer to his family or not this is NOT the issue. As a mature adult he is aware that separations in the pursuit of his career are possible and may be inevitable in order to meet his commitments to his employers and to further his career. If he, after discussions with his family , considered that playing for a team is likely to lead to unhappiness first and foremost then perhaps he should not have agreed to the initial deal at all. This is a matter of business and the honouring of contracts . Anything else is simply a distraction from the issues. The final decision to play or not to play is his and if ICT have treated him fairly why are they obligated to compromise their own inherent interests by considering his personal problems as more important than the bigger matter of their own responsibilities to the team and to the paying public? The punters on here who repeatedly stress that no one player is bigger than the team are dead right. Pay a fair and fuller price Brewster or GTF. And if The Board do not want to sell Dods, then tough luck Dods here's a soother for the Edinburgh train----and Brewster GTF. Period. :008:
  21. Well he should be Fw--you are a Ferry intriguing Woman. :001:
