  1. I think I've got it now Charlie and Scotty. Your pictures sure open up the vista and the mind. Wouldn't recognize the place for goodness sake. The river looks Fantastic though and these shots looking downstream are awesome. Must say, if these photies are anything to go by then Inverness seems a really cool place to stay these days. I don't know how I would settle in though, having lived in, or close to, big cities for the last many years. And the cost of living was higher than here in Canada when I was back in 2006. With the oil crisis in the headlines the Canadian dollar is taking a pounding and the rate of exchange in terms of dollars is climbing faster than I like. It's O K if you want to cash your pension but for Liliya to come over to the U K later this year I think to buy pounds now is going to cost us a pretty penny. Already the cost of 100 pounds is almost double that in Canadian dollars. Apparently a decent (say new) 3 bedroom house is not cheap in the town either ... Thank you, gentlemen. I appreciate your consideration in posting these great photos.
  2. Look at the number plates on these cars--LST. My Dads first car was an Austin 8 with the number on the plate of AST 564. Would that mean that car was one of the first in Inverness?
  3. So what job did you go into direct from School, IBM?
  4. It also takes nerves of steel.
  5. Unbelievable But in post #9 which one is the Legion? And is the Palace cinema showing in any of these?
  6. Ronny Delia is reported as stating that ...." ICT are the best team we have played so far this season."
  7. Eh em aware of thet ,Mr Bannerman. Has happened to me before and a complaint will have to be lodged to fix this anomaly. Does the site's blocker not consult Wikipedia before acting?
  8. He's big, he's black, he's handsome, he......SCORESSSSSSSS!
  9. In the last little while I have been experiencing similar slowness. So much so that I have tried to post them again and I notice that more than once the several posts I made seem to have been retained(held back) and then they all pop up at once--to my consternation. I thought that it may be I.E.11 that is malfunctioning since few people other than me seem to like it but...?
  10. Ach--I think it's time to give this thread the b.ms' rush. It's bringing out too many guys who have too much experience in the areas of dancing around whilst they are doing "Strip the Willow.' Bunch of whipper snappers.
  11. Oh No! There's resumed r-oiling in the waters of the debate. It's choppy seas right now but in 6 months the Arabs will want to sell more oil and continue to fill their coffers which are already overflowing? So why? Power and greed have always been a heady conjoined mixture on this planet. Enough is never enough...ever. Roll on the rollicking roiling and the repetitive reactionary price fixing. IT's a game that will never end. With the exchange rate for the pound into dollars is racing along on the crest of the upward wave, I am sitting tight as a bug in a rug and giving myself a hug. I know it's an important issue but remember that King **** could not stop the waves coming in so .....
  12. 7th March eh? Why, Scarlet, that's your birthday isn't it.? What do you think will happen you canny auld prognosticator? "Ahem, well, I think it will be a decisive victory for ICT on my birthday. That will also increase the number of birthday cards I get, so I have no hesitation in making my pitch heron in." My premonition , already stated on here a good few weeks ago, is that ICT is going to win the Scottish Cup. And the Ides of March are just the ticket for this one on the way there . It just has to be our year....
  13. Well Yngwie, you are a really smart man.
  14. Nah! IHE .. My bike looked more modern and did not have curl-under handlebars, but nice more "gentlemany" ones with rubber ends that curved out the sides. BUT...it did go like the wind . At least until you put the brakes on hard when it was just as likely that you would be gone with the wind instead, right over the handelbars. Like I did on V Day in Europe at the age of 7 which was a rainy day with slippery tarmac under wheel. Landed on me nose and it shook me up no end. Vindec never promised safety so they were Vindec-ated, right?
  15. Unless------ Ahem O.K.Can't stay, back to that site instanter.
  16. Oh! Oh!.. 'sup IHE? Dare I do so in trepidation or high dudgeon?
  17. Well, a good power wash would work wonders but if the paint is in poor shape then the sooner that would have to (or have been) be done the better for the old bird. Pity . Wasn't that a golden sandstone colour originally. If so, it would come up beautiful after the power wash cleaning. Depends on how it has aged though. Sandstone can be loose....
  18. That was long ago in the heady days of "Gone with the Wind" in South Carolina. No?
  19. Yngwie, He never did tell me what he was doing in NW England. Maybe he was building houses for his brother for all I know and just wanted to surround himself with the mystique of that a nuclear scientist. ?
  20. Yes to the Inverness question but I live in Maple Ridge, close to Vasncouver, in British Columbia. I see you live in Ontario--where exactly?
  21. Good morning Veronica Yes, I am from Inverness, Scotland but I live in British Columbia, Canada in a city named Maple Ridge which is just East of Vancouver which itself is situated on the West Coast, just 100 miles North of the US city of Seattle in Washington State. I do believe, without looking it up, that St Thomas is in the Bahamas isn't it which is South West of Florida, U.S.A.????
  22. Mantis--you might well have met my dad had you been a bit older. He owned and operated the Northern Tire Service and built my first bike . Then later in my teens he bought a sparkling new, green Vindec sporty -looking bikewhich he presented to me and watched as my face turned green with awe! I am sure that he bought it from Brown Bros, if they were the dealer in Inverness, because I know he dealt with them .
  23. IBM you are absolutely correct about the pride thing, I never was allowed to leave the house without shiny shoes . For my mum , what the neighbours thought was very important. Sounds a bit corny nowadays when, apparently, anything goes but at the same time keeping up good standards did benefit society. There are precious few good manners here in Canada which is something I do miss I must say, since that was the oil between the wheels when Iw as little in Inverness. Ashen I met someone my mother knew I was expected to pull my forelock or salute. And I now don't care whether I go out in Wellie boots or shiny shoes since people can think what they like so long as they give me good service in exchange for my hard-earned pension. Changed days, huh?
  24. Just on thought to keep in mind: "There but for the grace of God go I." or to put it another way..."Be careful what you wish for......"
