No MLS teams in Alberta ... or the rest of Canada for that matter .... Vancouver, Montreal are pushing to get in and who knows there might also be a Calgary team someday, but for now its just TFC. Alberta is a long way from Toronto !

3-1 final score and it was fun ....... should be some pictures up soon on our "other site" .... tfcpics.com Thats TFC still undefeated at home this season ... 5 wins, 2 draws ........ shame we cannot win away from home (sound familiar !!!). Next week another win hopefully ..... TFC V Kansas ... with Big Stu in attendance :004:

What 250,000 quid will buy you in New Scotland...
Scotty replied to Canada Bob's topic in General Nonsense
I always get the two mixed up !!! Ok its 5% GST and 8% PST (in Ontario) but it still adds up to 13% ... in fact, PST can go as low as 5% for hotel accomodation or as high as 12% for buying booze in the LCBO (off license). Got yer multipliers mixed up Scarlet old chap ...... its the equivalent of about 65p per litre .... Its usually a bit over $2 to the pound. -
Cant drink 2 days in a row either !!! Have no idea whats in the charts !!! cant think of any more (another sign LOL)

chatty doof mun

Fingers crossed he has. Really really poor player! based on ? Dont think any of us can really say how good or bad he actually is considering the amount of chances he has (not) had. He seemed to have a decent pre-season and did ok in the reserves but a handful of 5 minute first-team appearances tell you nothing ..... as Rory McAllister's fans will tell you :004:
-
yes but contracts work both ways .... he may have been told he can go for free if he can find another club but if he doesnt find one and no agreement has been reached to buy out or terminate his existing contract then he is still an ICT player whether ICT like it or not. according to the official site, still an ICT player [attach=1]

:clapping03: :clapping03: Hope the club eventually see it that way too !!!

What 250,000 quid will buy you in New Scotland...

Thats a hard question as its like comparing apples and oranges ..... Things I like about Canada: [li] Standard of living is higher[/li] [li] Prices seem lower for most things (although there are exceptions ... like property [see below])[/li] [li] Universal Health care. Unlike the USA we have the equivalent of the NHS and dont have to pay for medical bills[/li] [li] There is more opportunity workwise. I had to go to college for a year to formalise my IT skills but after that found work at the Globe and Mail newspaper within a week of graduation and was then head-hunted a year later for my current position at double the salary !![/li] [li] People are (for the most part) friendly[/li] [li] It actually has a summer !!![/li] [li] Toronto FC !!![/li] [li] Decent Beer[/li] [li] Multiculturalism[/li] Things I dont like about Canada: [li] The downside of having a summer is that it also has a winter and although the last few have been reasonably mild, the one we just had was brutal (-30, 8 feet of snow over the space of a couple of months etc)[/li] [li] House prices in Toronto are ridiculous ?200,000 (yes pounds, not dollars) and upwards for a small semi or even a flat in 'mid-town' with prices increasing exponentially the closer you get to downtown[/li] [li] Taxes. I disagree that we are taxed less because we have three levels of taxation - Federal, Provincial and Municipal. The feds take income tax and the equivalent of national insurance from us, the provincial government adds a health tax to that and in the end i feel I am paying more tax than i did when i was in Scotland but maybe thats because I am earning more. We also have the equivalent of VAT with our sales taxes - the feds charge 8% GST and the provincial government adds a further 5% PST to that for a total of 13%. At a city level we pay for water, property taxes, and they just decided to start charging a fee depending on what size of rubbish and recycling bins you have ... the bigger the bin, the more you pay. The city also just hiked car tax to renew your license plate and the land transfer tax when you sell your house so all in all we are getting taxed from every angle ![/li] Things I miss about Scotland/Inverness [li] Friends and Family[/li] [li] Seeing ICT FC in person[/li] [li] A 'sesh' in the Innes[/li] [li] UK TV. Believe me, with a few exceptions it IS far better than the US/Canadian equivalent[/li] -
Alex - depends on what was agreed ... he is/was under contract for at least another season and unless ICT came to an agreement to pay out the rest of it and release him by mutual consent then he is still an ICT player. ICT may have told him he is free to find another club but if he cant then Gordon may be right and he will be at pre-season. Who knows ... with all the departures, he may even get a look-in and we may be surprised !

What it will buy you in Toronto !!! THIS, THIS, or maybe even THIS !!! although for a mere 15 million you could have THIS -
I keep thinking back to a conversation I had with someone outside the stadium in April ........ It basically went along the lines that the team for 08/09 would be filled with youngsters and that no-one knew how we would fare next season ..... The courier suggestion that we are also trawling the lower leagues does not fill me with inspiration although I suppose it is possible we could unearth another Rankin, Cowie or Imrie ..... think we may be 'touching cloth' for a lot of the coming season although I would love to be proved utterly and completely wrong.

I think what Roscoe23 was saying is that getting a doing from the Dutch shocked the Italians .... and that shock could carry over into the Romania game and give Romania a better chance of taking something from it. two scenarios are in my mind .... 1. The Italians will be in disarray and Romania will win by the odd goal in 3. 2. The Italians will be angry about the defeat and will come out fighting and do to Romania what the Dutch did to them. I hope #1 is the right one :004: Also, France may be wary of the Dutch too and that could also work in Romania's favour .... If France set out to make sure they dont let the Dutch score another 3 then it could end up at 0-0 again.

I think you are correct. Marius does seem to like it here and although he is on a higher wage than our other players there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he could have got more elsewhere if he had taken another offer. I think getting back into the international side was a bigger desire for him than money and I am guessing - looking at his career path - that he figured he might have a better chance of that if he played for a less fashionable side where he was a bigger fish so to speak. I also would not underestimate the value of his friendship with Stevico. I believe that Steve showed the club videos of Marius and made the point that he could be available ... the rest of the signing saga we know about for the most part ... but if Steve and Marius were not friends I very much doubt that Marius would even have entertained the idea of coming to ICT. On the other side of the coin .... the club are also starting to find out about both the financial and PR benefits of having a player like Marius within their ranks .... look at the comments on here yesterday from fans excited and very positive about hearing ICT mentioned on TV at the euros, or seeing their "mate" Marius on the park, look at the newspapers where reports mention that he plays for ICT, look at how excited Grassa is about getting his hands on 60K he didnt know he would have so that Brewster could possibly get at least one additional player ! It all raises the profile of the club in the same way as the Parkhead result did in 2000. I really hope ICT try to work with him to extend his contract as having an international player at the club who plays for a top nation (no disrespect to Hastings but Canada are world ranked at 60, Romania are 12) can only continue to raise our profile and hopefully mean we will actually attract players who previously would say "Inverness who?" To stay vaguely on topic .... If Juanjo was good enough he will get a contract but the silence since the trial seems to suggest he may not have been the Juanjo we all remember and enjoy.

deadline related i suspect ! Sunday is the deadline for Tuesday's paper and even if you can squeeze something in on Monday morning or even early afternoon for Tuesday's edition, its unlikely that they could have "held the presses" to give the reporter enough time to write and submit a Euro story on Monday night ..... However, even if you give them the benefit of the doubt about the printed newspaper, you have to say that it is disappointing that they didnt perhaps print a little box on the back page directing people to their website for the latest on Marius' Euro adventure. Perhaps they could have avoided any deadline issues by simply stating "At the time of going to press, Romania were due to play France at Euro 2008, for the latest news on Caley Thistle striker Marius Niculae's involvement, please see inverness-courier.co.uk" ... and then print an online story to go with it. Making your website a 'real-time' extension of a static and instantly out of date medium like a newspaper is what news organisations around the world do these days ... or should do !!! I used to see and be involved in breaking news stories getting added to the Globe and Mail website all the time when I worked for them. They routinely had little boxes in the newspaper directing readers to relevant sections of their website where a (separate) team of journalists worked non-stop to either add more in-depth coverage or background info to a story that space constraints would not allow in print, to add interactivity that wasnt possible in print, or to make sure that any breaking news in Toronto or Canada was added to the site within minutes of it coming down the wire.

Its a FIFA sanctioned tournament under the control of CONCACAF which covers North America, Central America and the Carribean so you could argue thats its similar in stature .... however, you could equally argue that the member nations are not of the same quality as CONMEBOL (South America) or UEFA (Europe). Mexico and USA are highest ranked teams at 14 and 21 in FIFA rankings, Honduras is next at 37 and then Canada and Panama at 60 ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CONCACAF_Gold_Cup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CONCACAF

Hope you had 0-0 on at the bookies as well as the overall bet with qualification

Yes, but I think it was not whilst he was at ICT? Richard and Davide were both in the squad for the Gold Cup in February 2000 - Richard flew out almost immediately after THAT game at Parkhead and something tells me that Xausa actually went before it but I could be wrong. Xausa played 4 games and Richard played 5 including the one where he scored the "golden goal" against Mexico in the quarter final to take Canada through. Canada eventually won the cup beating Colombia 2-0 in the final and Richard was named "Rookie of the Tournament" He also played in the most recent Gold Cup and was named to the best 11 of the tournament after a very solid display throughout which culminated in a very very dodgy USA win against Canada in the final. That last game was a good one for Richard and he showed some true leadership in trying to encourage his team-mates to get back into the game after some shocking calls by the ref (a ref Canada had complained about before) ..... he was almost "Roy Aitken-like" in his "encouragement" of players. Edit: Xausa played 4 games: 13/02 V Costa Rica, 15/02 V Korea, 20/02 QF V Mexico, 24/02 SF V Trinidad/Tobago Hastings played 5 games: 13/02 V Costa Rica, 15/02 V Korea, 20/02 QF V Mexico, 24/02 SF V Trinidad/Tobago, 27/02 Final V colombia
