  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McPake Some goal ratio during his time at Manchester United
  2. I expect a few naysayers as he's been just about everywhere but I like him. Could do well up here.
  3. It's pretty much the basis of capitalism. Finance almost goes in to the realm of zen or quantum physics in that role. Nothing actually exists except what's in the mind. It's a shaky foundation to build the entire foundation of Western civilization on (and physics but that is the goal to marry up quantum and classical). A case of don't-look-too-hard-and-it'll-be-alright. It's worked for a few decades but it was always a house of cards. New Scientist did a good paper on it a few months ago. Many of the financial institutions were using mathematical models but there were two fundamental failings: 1. the data was extremely limited. Really we only have good data from around the 1950s/60s. 2. the financial system is based on confidence (not the statistical definition) and that just doesn't follow the rules
  4. Search for Ends Jobs and Ends Directory if you haven't already. It's not quite the same now with plenty of consultancies having recruitment freezes but many consultancies will take on good people, even if there are no jobs advertised.
  5. Billy Mehmet He's English but has an Irish U21 cap through a grandparent With a Turkish surname aswell.. :thumb04: :018: I think you might be missing my point here...
  6. Why no players from the Top 6? Is relegation any less vital? Wouldn't Burley prefer to see how the likes of Mark Kerr, John Rankin, Lee Wallace etc play rather than Dougie Imrie, Bob Malcolm or Billy Mehmet.
  7. I hate it when the OF score early. Game is over before it's really begun Waste of admission money for the Saints fans.
  8. I also doubt it will happen but even more doubtful is heavy investment when the OF are no longer in the SPL. It may be a closer league but the money will be substantially less. I know some people will say the OF take care of themselves but ask any club in the First, whether they would relish the chance to play the OF more. Like it or not (not) they do bring in all the money. (but it still might be good for Scottish football - could it get much worse?)
  9. Lee Mair probably a risk as he's not shone at either D Utd or the Dons, so could end up another McGuire. I wouldn't be against it myself as I think he could actually shine, given a longer run in a team. He was a very promising player before the big injury a few years ago.
  10. It was to stop clubs (like Motherwell) who would buy players they couldn't afford, or not pay proper attention to their infrastructure whilst spending on players. The one-size-fits-all does seem unfair though.
  11. After the way they treated Paul Sturrock, not too sad myself.
  12. (does he get it?)
  13. Did you really, Steven? Which dictionary? You're not playing a trick on me are you?
  14. The strange thing is the word 'gullible' isn't an actual word. Everyone knows what it means but it's not an official part of the language as it's not listed in any dictionary.
  15. I'd like to see Hamilton go down but I sincerely doubt they will. Both St Mirren and Falkirk try to play football (although it doesn't seem to have worked for Falkirk this season), so can't dislike them too much. Falkirk's a strange one. On paper, they look a pretty strong team but people like Barr and O'Brien especially have been so poor for them. And yet, at the start, any team in the bottom six would have grabbed either of them. ICT's only hope is Falkirk to be as p*ss poor as they have been the rest of the season. One good result for us and one bad one for them could put it all to bed... ...but I do wish we had beaten Hamilton just there. That was a big big game.
  16. Hey, that takes me back. Not thought about that band in a long time. I've got some demos of the La's rehearsing at Echo & the Bunnymen's rooms. REM's version of Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan" for me.
  17. Um...no...Inverness (hence posting regularly here and having the category of 'First Team' under my handle). St Mirren before that. ICT's very first game? Friendly with Saint Mirren. So from the very off, my old team was dropped. As for a British league, that would benefit both Rangers AND Celtic, and in my opinion, at least one Edinburgh team, probably Aberdeen and maybe a Dundee. As for Britain and Scotland: In athletics, I want Scotland to win in the Commonwealth Games and Britain in the Olympics. In rugby, I want Scotland to win in the World Cup and the British Lions to win in the tours. Be pretty strange otherwise surely? :thumb04: I'd be happy enough with either Scotland or Britain competing for the World Cup. If, in some twisted world, everyone is either Rangers or Celtic, then not wanting a British team then surely makes you a Celtic fan? Or maybe, like me, I have no interest in either of the OF and can think for myself? But, it's just sport. I'm not a raging nationalist or unionist (if you really want to know, a federalist and an internationalist). I also support Canada (my birthplace) and Egypt (through my wife). It's football, not politics. Oh and from Pie & Bovril, my first accusation came as: "You'll also have all the bluenoses on your case for being a closet Celtic fan" and from my blog: "I'm a supporter of Inverness Caledonian Thistle first and foremost. I support all the Scottish clubs in Europe. I am not a closet supporter of either Rangers or Celtic (I await my first accusation!) or any other team for that matter." Pretty strange being accused of being a Rangers supporter on another team's website. Wonder if this happens at other clubs?
  18. So politically motivated that I started with the statement that I didn't mind one way or another. I presume it's an attempt at humour as I doubt anyone could be so dim. Certainly, the conversation with you is boring me and almost certainly others, so I'll retire from it. (although I did notice no protest at the 'green-eyed leanings' comment, which I think says it all)
  19. No disrespect to any of the teams mentioned but the English FA would laugh any and all of them out of any meeting Edinburgh has the population and prestige to have a go at the English League. I could easily see an ambitious buyer seeing the potential and going for it. Aberdeen likewise. A united Dundee team? Well, it doesn't have the prestige of the capital city or the money of an oil city (along with transport links) but could I see them in a British league? Probably. Partly because of the history of Dundee United.
  20. Nope, not Rangers minded. I'm both Scots and British (and Canadian as it happens, hell European as well!). I don't see that one diminishes the other. If there was to be a British league, I'd have no problem opening it up to an Irish league too. I doubt in the age of Easyjet, traveling costs would necessarily kill that idea. It would just require forward planning. Already the English Division 1 is richer than most Scottish clubs, so it would actually boost most incomes. Certainly, if you take Rangers and Celtic out of the SPL.
  21. I would expect a number of teams to try to follow, especially Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee/Dundee United. Basically a British league. That would then lead to the demise of the national team. I know some people will hate it but I'm not too against it myself. I think the English bias would be lost rapidly and the leagues would be more exciting all round. That said, I'm also not overly for it. Basically I'm happy either way )
  22. For me, he's best in a wing position. As we're leaking goals, I would play a more cautious game then unleash Imrie in the second half to have a go at tired legs. Every player can lose form and it seems Munro's loss has come at a crucial time. With Tokely making a strong claim and Mihadjuks first name on the sheet, then, captain or not, Munro has to stand aside. That said, he's a decent player so it doesn't mean drop him and never come back. Purely a loss of form.
  23. Yeah, this: It's that old Holocaust denier again. In doing so, he also denies not only Jewish suffering but also that of Arabs, Russians, the disabled, homosexuals, trade unionists etc etc. Was the resurrection of Israel the right decision? Nope (in hindsight). Having Ahmadinejad speak out against racism is a bit like Rosemary West campaigning against drug pushers. Their own inhumanity to their fellow people precludes them from being part of the debate.
  24. Can't recall Gattheusi ever playing central defence.
