  1. A sensible formation from Renegade! I preferred it when you would put up a 1-3-2-2-2 every week. I'd go for how Renegade has it but swap McKay for Doran.
  2. Great news, hopefully the solid gold statue of Ross Tokely is on the cards.
  3. I'm so outraged by this that I've written to Neil Oliver to complain. He'll sort this out.
  4. We've got an option on him so Tade partnering Balotelli will have to wait until the season after next. Why always Tade?
  5. They are Paul MacInnes, based in Abu Dhabi; Richard Hillier, Switzerland; Graham Rae, Houston, Texas; and Alan MacPhee, Yemen. All are from Inverness. The fifth member is not on the Trust, but is also from Inverness.
  6. Penalty was the right decision. Also the right decision not to give either penalty shout Celtic had late on, both laughable shouts. Neil Lennon's actions at the final whistle were a disgrace, he has no right to behave like that towards officials. I'm assuming that he won't be retracting anything he's said now that TV evidence has shown him to be incorrect. Alan Thompson was also a disgrace, coming out with the head-shakingly stupid quote "If theirs is a penalty then so is ours". I believe that this is what is called in science an "appeal to fairness" and is absolute pish. Hearts get a penalty because Wanyama (and Ledley for that matter) handled the ball. Celtic didn't get a penalty because Webster didn't handle the ball. If Hearts had ten penalties and Celtic had none that doesn't make the decisions unfair. Hopefully Lennon gets a twenty match touchline ban, in a Derek Adams stylee.
  7. Bradford City did this and have more season ticket holders than most teams in the league above them. We should give it a go.
  8. Where did you get that photo?
  9. Good post. The whining from some posters on here is a joke.
  10. Lots of people are engaged in hanky clutching, tear flecked breakdowns on this forum about County coming up. We spent years in the same league as County and finished above them just about every season, attracted far better players than they did and won twice as many derbies. This was despite them spending a great deal of money for many years. I don't buy the argument that them being in the league will mean we are competing for players with them. We are just as likely to compete for playes with other SPL sides, St Johnstone, St Mirren and the likes. The scope of the transfer market for clubs like us and County has expanded into England and connections are more important than simply trying to buy up Scottish players in the way that happened in the past.
  11. this is what I posted on P&B We went up a couple of years ago and kept largely the same squad as previously. In the summer between promotion and resuming in the SPL we signed Johnny Tuffey, Kenny Gillet, Stuart Duff and Chris Innes. We also loaned in Kevin McCann. The only player who made significant appearences for us that season who was brought in during the close season was Duff, who mainly covered right back. The other four only made 30 odd appearences between them. We had a mix of players who were young and showed they could make the step up to the SPL (Lee Cox, Adam Rooney, Jonny Hayes) and players who were experienced in the SPL (Ryan Esson, Grant Munro, Ross Tokely, Richie Foran). If you have that coming up then you don't need to add too much experience I think. I don't think that Dunfermline, who now look odds on to go down although it's far from settled, have enough quality and that's why they've struggled. Certainly when I've seen us play them they are kind of like a watered down version of the 10/11 Caley team, mixing experienced and younger players but without the talent that we had. Looking at County's squad they obviously have experience in there, most obviously in Grant Munro who has played six seasons in the SPL. One thing about the players who have taken them into the SPL is that several of them have previously played in the SPL and been found wanting - Richard Brittain had a big reputation at Livingston but didn't really impress with St Mirren, Scott Morrison didn't do much with Dunfermline and their leading scorer is Colin McMenamin who hasn't scored in the SPL or an equivelent level for many years. Of course that's not to say that they aren't good enough to do a job in SPL - some players 'fit' at a club before they perform and, of course, playing in a settled unit with a winning mentality will help. Losing Gardyne is a blow and Derek Adams will need to look for a creative player in the summer. As pointed out above, there will probably be a big change in their squad and the teams they will be competing with so it's difficult to make any prediction.
  12. County had hilarious squads around 2002-2005. They outbid us on several players, I remember them pulling Jim Hamilton out from under us, the dastardly lot!
  13. They owed £400 to Shred-It Glasgow. Lulz.
  14. Players who I think have shown they can be decent from the current squad and I wouldn't be disappointed if they were in our squad for next season: Ryan Esson - Good, solid keeper. Jonny Tuffey - Good option as a number two but he'll probably leave for first team football. Thomas Piermayr - Decent enough when I've seen him. Josh Meekings - Has made mistakes but is young and has also had some solid displays. One for the future. Graeme Shinnie - A decent full back, not too spectacular but has good feet and is gaining valuable experience. Roman Golobart - Cool under pressure, perhaps too much sometimes. Kenny Gillet - When he's on his game, solid defender. Chris Hogg - Experienced and offers leadership. Andy Shinnie - Talented player, great striker of the ball and drifts between the lines, creating interesting opportunities and a different sort of positioning. Greg Tansey - Frustratingly inconsistent, at times he gives the ball away too much but he showed in teh first hour on Saturday that he can dominate the midfield. Richie Foran - Gets a lot of undeserved stick from the tinfoil hat brigade but he is strong, good in the air and a leader. Jonny Hayes - Our best player, will probably leave though. Nick Ross - A decent player, handy on the ball but not consistent enough. Needs to improve physically. Gregory Tade - Hard working but maddening. Billy McKay - Hard working without the madness. I think Tuffey, Golobart and Hayes will all leave. Tudor Jones hasn't played enough games to be judged, he could be a good player for us. I've also left out Doran as he's barely played this season. The two big issues for us this season have been stupid defensive mistakes and a lack of quality going forward. The only two creative attacking players of any quality we have are Jonny Hayes and Andy Shinnie and they have been injury prone this season. Also, if you rely on these guys so much if they go on a poor run then we are goosed. We don't have strikers who can conjure goals out of nothing, we need to create more chances for them. At the back, we need to improve concentration and organisation. It's difficult to recruit quality attacking players when you are on a budget. We'll have to hope that Butcher's recruitment this summer unearths some Johnny Hayes' rather than Danny Stratfords. Last season Butcher plucked Gregory Tade out of the First Division and, overhead kick attempts aside, he's been better than anyone thought. There doesn't really look to be any obvious targets in the lower leagues, with most of the leading scorers more established players.
  15. I thought we played pretty well for an hour. Tansey looked good, he did what you'd want him to do in the middle. Hayes looked decent but not at 100% and we were completely untroubled at the back. The issue is our defending, yet again. First goal, Tokely left his man at a corner, bang, goal. Second goal, TWO left backs are beaten and then the least mobile striker in Scottish football got away from our defence to score. Unforgivable. Third goal, Meekings was out of position by a couple of yards and then Tuffey could've done better with the shot. The story of our season - promising display, lack of cutting edge and then defensive ineptitude. We have two international defenders as our managemetn team, this shouldn't be happening.
  16. Shocking news, especially at this time of year.
  17. 2006 was a big year for Forres, they won the Inverness Cup AND the Champions League. Can Barca or Manchester United match that? I think not.
  18. They have been found guilty. Pair of total ersehiles.
  19. We should spend the money on something for the future. I suggest a solid gold statue of Ross Tokely.
  20. Used to be on the board of Dundee? Big mates with Arkan? Defended Saddam Hussein? Wondering what he's up to now? This - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq0yay-tbwQ
  21. What a bunch of knicker-wetting pearl-clutchers we have on this thread. We'll be fine with County coming up, it'll be good to have a derby game and we'll benefit from having more away fans than we get from Dunfermline or Hibs.
  22. Rangers -£13,135,000
  23. He's keeping going until he signs for Napoli.
  24. I think he should be allowed to compete in the Olympics after serving his ban. There is a lot of self-kidding that goes on in sport about drugs. Performance enhancing drugs are now so advanced that you have to doubt if the testers can keep up with them or if you could even test for them. The drug Chambers failed for, THG, wasn't even known about until an athletics coach sent it to the authorities in AMerica, anonymously. You can also blood dope by having your own blood transfused into you the night before a race, this apparently goes on in cycling. How do you prove that and how do you actually ban people from doing it? Other sports have a see no evil, hear no evil attitude to it - football being one. You often hear footballers complaining about being subject to the same drug testing regime as other sports, the England team almost refused to play a game over Rio Ferdinand's failed test. However, these are exactly the same standards that other athletes are held to. Don't forget Jaap Stam and Edgar Davids both served drugs bans during their careers. I don't agree that you can say to athletes, take anything you want as these drugs are controlled and are dangerous. I'd imagine the high jumpers who beat Charle's protegy aren't pictures of health now.
