    RAF RIP?

Maybe those pictures did radicalise people. However, in the real world things very rarely work in such a cause and effect manner. The social process of a British Muslim becoming a jihadist/Quitdist/salafist etc isn't quite a simple as reading a particularly harrowing edition of the Independent. For example, some of the 7/7 bombers were pushed towards radical Islam by the perception that the West stood by as Muslims were massacred in Bosnia. Social factors also play a big role in radicalising people - many Muslim communities that have seen radicals emerge are very conservative, run by traditions imported from the villages where many emigrated from decades before. Young people, faced with archiac rules and community leaders have looked for more modern role models, which often come from radical preachers. Again, I think I'm right in saying that one of the 7/7 bombers was estranged from his family becuase he wanted to marry an African woman - his traditional family wanted him to marry someone whose family coudl be traced back to the village they originally came from. Radical Muslims are many things but they are cut off from the partiality of customs - all races are welcome, as witnessed by the different racial backgrounds of British Muslims who have committed, or attempted to committ, terrorist attacks.
  7. In more smoking related news, the number of cigarettes sold last year in the UK rose for the first time in 40 years. I look forward to our government wielding the ban-hammer as a result of this affrontary from British citizens, the ungrateful wretches!
  8. That was true.
  9. Keano Keano Keano :D
  10. How long is the lease that the club has on the ground and who is it held with? Also, I recall in 2002/03 a planning application was made by Asda to build a supermarket on part of the ground, which was rejected by the Council. Surely this would have a bearing on any potential development at the stadium site.
  11. Abysmal signing for us. It all looked so promising on his debut as well but really a very poor signing who did nothing in 30 odd games after that to show that he was an SPL or First Division player. Perhaps he'll be one of those players who does well with one particular club.
  12. It does sound as though the board have been high-handed with this. As pointed out earlier in the thread this is something that's been the case in the past as well. When I was a nipper I sold raffle tickets and the guys within the club who dealt with us were usually a bunch of d1cks. I remember thinking when reading some of CaleyD's posts on this forum that it was something of a contradiction that he regularly posted criticism of the board while being employed by them. Clearly this got too much for the board.
  13. Govt to cut numbers smoking in half Great news. I'm glad that governments can make such difficult decisions about other people's lives and choices. I do think that the anti-smoking frenzy our legislators drive themselves into is borne from a lack of things to do. The Scottish Parliament is going to ban displaying cigarettes in shops, despite there being little evidence of this reducing sales of fags, and are going to ban cigarette vending machines.
  14. What a stupid comment, if the room is empty how can a fight start! Are you trying to f*ckin say that's a stupid comment? You're gettin it.
  15. What was Hayes goal like? I think we are certain to win this match now, play up Caley, woot woot.
  16. Pish. Defeat certain.
  17. Make your own Cameron poster
  18. No-one really advocates a fully free market system. However, plenty of free market economists have argued against the bailout of the banks. Personally, I think it's a difficult one - it's easy sitting outside to say that it would be better in te long run to allow RBS to fail but the consequences could have been so catastrophic that it would be a brave government who'd have done it. On the other hand, the long term effects of such a huge government intervention could be disasterous. The government are banking (ho ho) on being able to sell RBS on to but the constant political pressure on decisions means that the banks competitiveness could be harmed and any sell off could end up being at a loss.
  19. Will the Accies fans still sing that charming 'Imrie, die' ditty if he signs for them?
  20. I have to say, just about every time I've seen him I've thought he looks a bit suspect.
  21. Big companies like Tulloch/Rok etc don't have evil masterplans where the board all get together and decide to run down a football club in order to get them to move stadium so they can develop it. If they did want to run us down, why did Tulloch invest in the club in the early 2000s and continue that through the decade, subsidising the construction of our new stands and our time in the SPL?
  22. United Kingdom falls down Freedom chart
  23. You can't take a slab of TL and a couple of bottles of Buckfast on the supporters bus though can you?
  24. The North Stand was going to be called the John Scott Superdome. That or the Martin Bavidge End.
  25. I once went to a midweek friendly with Deveronvale where myself and my mate were the only Caley Thistle fans, unless you count Robbo's kids. It was the week before we beat Celtic in 2003 I think and we drew 1-1 - Tony Low scored.
