  1. I have no issue with Celtic going to Marbella - it's the fact that they plan to return that I object to.
  2. I think folk are being a bit harsh on Hughes. He has a real passion for the game and with the right club with a supportive Board he could do very well. My gut feeling favours Hartley but I would be happy with Hughes. The main thing though is that whoever the Board appoints and whatever folk may have said about certain candidates on this forum, we give them our full support.
  3. Funny that someone who only registered on the site on Friday should suddenly be the person to come on here with this.
  4. Clearly the stand out tie of the round. Mind you, I'm a bit concerned about a 12.15 kick off on the Sunday to suit the TV companies as getting down to Stranraer in the middle of February will not be easy.
  5. Don't you mean subscription - or was this something you could watch on your tablet device?
  6. Celtic v The Rangers, Aberdeen v Dundee Utd and us against anybody else would do nicely for me.
  7. Maybe a bit of credit to Celtic would be in order. They are out of Europe and the league cup and will be wanting to ensure they win the league and cup double. Sounds like they produced a thoroughly professional performance and any other team in Scotland would have taken a beating against them today. It just happened to be Hearts.
  8. No. It just means that as Hibs manager, he'll be looking forward to us knocking Hearts out of the competition.
  9. True. But great work then from Doran to set up McKay for the finish. It is a shame Nick couldn't have shown the same vision when the game was a bit tighter.
  10. Very poor first half. Morton defended deep and we lacked penetration and support for the front players. Polworth was particularly poor and many managers would have hooked him at half time. The late goal in the first half made a big difference - it probably settled our players whilst forcing Morton to be more postive themselves which in turn created more space for us. Most of our penetration came yet again from Doran who is a real example to others in the way he is always looking for the ball and looking to go forward. If his percentage of good final balls and his shooting could improve a bit he would be tremendous. MacKay was quality and Shinnie was the other player who had a cutting edge coming forward. Very much the 3 stand out players for me. Polworth settled in the 2nd half and had a couple of decent efforts. His delivery from corners was good but he needs to hassle for the ball more and to be far more effective in his distribution. I also don't get the Nick Ross adulation - he was tidy enough for the most part and there were one or two more telling passes but mostly it is the safe option from him and the creativity and penetration come from elsewhere. He is bullied off the ball too much and seems reluctant to shoot. It was hard work and the score flattered us. However the one high spot was the 3rd goal which was a thing of real beauty. A real top quality counter attacking team move which was worth the entrance money on its own. More of that please and less of the side to side and passing it backwards stuff we saw for too much of yesterday.
  11. Well, you presumably care enough to still be reading this thread,
  12. Well there you go. Thats what weve been waiting about 3 weeks and 1020 posts to here. Who needs an anouncement from the club if someone you know has been at the ticket office. That's a bit unfair. If anyone else knew any better we wouldn't have had 1020 posts.
  13. That's good and bad news. Good for us and bad for him.
  14. Was it not just that he was the sort of committed, no nonsense player that you hate when he's playing against you but love when he's playing for you. Those that hurled abuse at him when playing for Heart's would cheer him on when playing for Scotland.
  15. Darren Fergusson? Perhaps looking to move on before he gets the sack? He's had Peterborough playing a good attacking game but works under a chairman who is not easily pleased and is expecting an immediate return to the Championship. With a bit of support from the old man he could be looking to emulate Sir Alex by delivering success with an unfashionable North of Scotland club. Just a thought.
  16. Conference Eric Odhiambo for Hereford v Halifax
  17. Hopefully an appointment before the weekend and presentation of the new manager at the Morton game will help to get the gate up to a decent level.
  18. George Best was a box to box midfielder - although in his case the term did not refer to what he did on the football pitch.
  19. I like the idea of Hartley, but if we appoint him we would have to recognise that if he did well he would be head hunted by much bigger clubs than us. He would be seen as a young manager with very bright prospects indeed. We'd be lucky if he stayed 2 years. Personally I would be more than happy with that if he was able to lift a trophy in that time.
  20. It really isn't that long ago that for an Inverness side to beat Morton in the cup would have been a memorable bit of giant killing. I'll be happy for us to win ugly but I think we will win pretty. I predict Billy being subbed in the 67th minute so we can salute his hat-trick.
  21. Whilst only 8-1 it is interesting that Robertson is back in the odds after apparently saying that he had been told he was not on the short list. However, what he said on the BBC prior to the game on Saturday was interesting. He said he had heard absolutely nothing from the club and made the point that this was the sort of job you didn't apply for but waited till the club invites you to talk to them. I know, it sounds very naive but that is what he said. It came across as if he was almost begging the club to get in touch. Maybe he was not on the short list because he hadn't written to express an interest in the club. Now the club know he wants the job, maybe they have been in touch. I'd prefer Robbo to Sutton and Levein but would prefer Hartley or Shiels. I'll guess we will know soon enough but it would not surprise me if it was somebody nobody has yet mentioned.
  22. Nothing wrong with the tactic. If the opposition don't put a player on the wide winger then they are asking for trouble as otherwise it is a regular outball that can be guaranteed to turn defence into attack. If you've got players with pace in the team the width this gives you is a distinct advantage. It can be a useful way of getting messages from the bench as well!
  23. Just brilliant- now wondering how Raven would do at left back - interesting??!! What is really effective is how he will sometimes cut in with pace rather than go for width and the cross. With Billy then doing a diagonal run to the right in front of him it creates a few options. I can see goals coming from this.
  24. Best to blame an ageing Talisker
  25. They may have drawn at Celtic Park earlier in the year but Morton were thrashed at home by Livi today and even Barrowman got on the score sheet. We should be able to put a few past them without reply. By the time we play them in the cup next week we should have a new manager in place and I wonder how they will play it. Do they look at the "normal" starting XI with a view to starting with a comfortable win under their belt, or do they take the opportunity to look at a few more players who maybe haven't had a first team start. For instance they might start with Toby up front and Billy on the bench. I'm normally in favour of playing your strongest team because it is, after all, important to make sure you win and the teams from lower leagues are always "up for it". No messing for me. Start with the strongest team and tell them to play as if they were playing County. Early subs regardless of the score - if they are winning comfortably then there is no risk. If they are not then they are not doing well enough and others should be given the chance to do better.
