  1. But the club has had little or no income and most of the usual outgoings. The scheme is to maintain employment and keep businesses alive, so I’d be surprised if it will not been used by many clubs. Whether they publicly say so is another matter. The sector I am in has been fortunate to get some support from the Scottish Government. One of the conditions is that maximum use is made of the furlough scheme as it minimises the cost to the Scottish Government. As football has had some support, that may be a prerequisite too.
  2. I can’t see any reason for not using it as we don’t need the players at work until pre-season starts, and those on furlough can also be on holiday. The club made the wages up to 100% last time, so there is nothing to lose and it will save the club a chunk of wage costs. Perhaps not what furlough was designed for but if it is within the scheme rules, why not take advantage of it?
  3. Pretty sure Fyffe and Nicolson can both play right back with Fyffe also a centre back. Hyde is a midfielder and Harkness a striker.
  4. Shame we are out of the cup but nice to see neither of the Old Firm in the semis this year!
  5. I agree. He has a great eye for a pass, but the execution did not always work. I think we were better with him, but Sutherland had done ok on that role before he came in. It was a positive move by the club to get us to the play offs and so nearly worked, so I am not being critical of the move. It was good to see Lyall today. He looks to have potential. Worth a loan next season.
  6. Glad I didn’t play my last joker today!
  7. I have updated the above for Carson. We have 10 players under contract for next season, who will form a pretty decent nucleus for us. Of those out of contract, I’d imagine we will offer extensions to Cammy and the youngsters who can hopefully develop into regular squad members and, in time, be the next products of the academy to enhance the squad. I don’t see MacKinnon and Hastings on the list: not sure if their contracts expire this summer too. Toddy must be the priority to get signed up, based on the last couple of months. I’d be quite happy if Mckay and Sutherland get extensions. Doran, if we are guaranteed fitness, would be an asset. If may be worth taking a punt on McDonald, as he looked useful in his loan spell. I anticipate we will release McHattie, Vincent and Storey, but may be proved wrong!
  8. With the League Cup starting on 10 July, I wonder if we will furlough them players until late June. I think last year we made their wages up to 100%, so if we did the same they will not lose out, but the club will avoid the bulk of the wage costs for several weeks. Regarding number 9, I’d imagine Storey will move on so any front player coming in to replace him could take the number. Is Toddy out of contract this summer?
  9. To be honest, I’m glad the club still exists given the financial problems, and we achieved a reasonable finish after a very inconsistent season. It would be good, if the club is able to say anything, to understand the likely timescales for Robbo and Kells returning, and indeed confirmation that they will return. I think their situations had a big impact on us not getting a play off place, but credit to the players and interim team for turning things around to a degree. We struggled when McCann came in as he tried to change the formation and playing style, but once we reverted to 4-2-3-1 and not always playing it out from the back, we got our act together. Giving Toddy a run of games worked very well. The highlight was the cup win against County, whilst I think we have the nucleus of a decent squad for next season, with those we have under contract. Of last year’s signings, Devine and Deas could become a very good pairing, Duffy could allow Carson back into midfield, and Allardice can become even more influential. Mackay, MacGregor and Harper have established themselves and, whilst still learning the game, have played important roles and hopefully will improve even more next season. Along with Toddy, Mackay’s recent scoring form has been impressive. So where did it go wrong? The off field issues and all the postponements cost us a higher finish in my opinion, but I look at four games where we messed up: losing 2-1 at Alloa after taking an early lead; drawing 2-2 at Morton after being 2-1 up playing against 10 men; losing 1-0 at home to Morton; losing 1-0 at home to Queen of the South. There are probably other games equally as significant but those stand out for me, and are probably the difference between 5th and 2nd. Our injury position didn’t help either, with the absence of Carson in particular for so long a significant impact. However, if we look back at posts last summer, this season’s priority was to remain in business and we have achieved that, and I look forward optimistically to next season. The league will be competitive again, and many teams will have much bigger budgets than us, but I see us competing at the top end of the table, and hopefully maybe even getting promotion. When it comes to voting for player of the season, I will pick between Carson and Toddy, with Mackay getting my vote for young player. Roll on the first league game on 31 July!
  10. Looks like Arbroath had 5 attempts in stoppage time, but we can’t complain as we had let it be out of our hands. At least we matched Hearts second half. In the first half, they were much better than both St Mirren and County, and played very good football.
  11. Protested about Welsh’s booking, although the card was justified.
  12. At least we can look forward knowing we have some important players under contract, especially Carson. A shame we are out of it, but a couple of months ago we were looking down rather than thinking about being close to the promotion play offs. Who will be looking at contracts and bringing players in given our interim management situation?
  13. Lyall on for Toddy. Surprised at that. Storey now playing up front. Now Welsh booked.
  14. Mackay has been playing wide left so presumably he should be tracking back?
  15. 3-0. Confusion between Deas and Ridgers let MacKay Steven touch it in. This could get embarrassing!
  16. We should have got one back there. Three going for great Carson cross. Someone should have shouted as it just needed a touch.
  17. Hearts are playing the best football I’ve seen this season, and much better than the previous games we’ve had against them. We’ve not been that bad but they are a class above us so far.
