SM has plenty contacts in the south so received plenty of tips for players. Unfortunately finances dictated that a lot of initial scouting was done via YT until the player could come for trials. I remember it being a bit of a joke at the time, but I guess we ultimately did quite well out of it overall.

Why would they be preoccupied with today's game at the weekend ? I didn't think raising your game to play your local rivals was so all consuming. I think they were just under strength and played like a bunch of fannies.

The scouting system you refer to was Steve Marsella and YouTube. Marsella is now at Kilmarnock. I hear YouTube is still available.

So was he not going to take what he was contracted to receive, or do you think it was affordable to the club? Do you know what his wage was?

I seem to recall a conversation in which JR revealed Mulraneys wages were contracted to double if he stayed this year. Bearing in mind he was signed in the premiership years and his wages wouldn't have been too shabby to start with - I'd say this might be deemed unaffordable in current financial climes. Are you saying Jake was willing to take a drop in pay...?
