Ha ha. I am coming home in 2009, albeit for a month, and nothing to do with this. Tourismis the cashcow...gotta milk it.

Its not seen as a festival. Its more a means of trying to re-attract tourists to the country. Especially those from the America's who, since Lockerby, have not come over in such droves as before. Its also about persuading migrant Scots to return to their homeland for a visit.

The Scottish Cup had no sponsor for this season so the Scottish Parliament put up the funds in exchange for advertising the Homecoming.

As I said in a recent letter to the Courier, now the advertising campaign for The Homecoming has begun, the first of the inevitable string of Nessie sightings can't be all that far away. This just seems to be Highland Year of Culture Mark 2... without the fireworks with any luck.

Quite frankly it's a load of commercially motivated pseudoromantic claptrap... sorry, I mean the "Homecoming" NOT the Cup!

Highland 2007 was perfect. Perfect in how to throw away millions of pounds to outside of the Highlands without anybody seeing any return on it.

Homecoming, well, its nationwide, and its done by the tourism sector to attract tourists so really its just a spin on their usual campaigns. Where would we all be without tourism??

Its a shame that advertising of "homecoming" seems to have been restricted to the other side of the pond !!! Have seen virtually nothing over here. I know that a few politicos were over last year hob-nobbing with the Bay St business types ..... but they seem to have largely ignored the actual Scottish Diaspora.

Not true, the sponsorship of the cup is being paid for by Willie Haughey for 2 years and he handed the branding rights over to the Scottish Government for this year.

An ex-Director of Celtic is the sole individual with sponsorship rights to the Scottish cup?? Wow.

And it's not just this bizarre festival, it's the cringworthy advert that goes with it featuring the ever changing voices of Lulu (sometimes she's Glaswegian, sometimes she's American) and the wifebeater Sean Connery.

Perfect then for a club that includes Caledonian and Thistle in its name to win it then.... :rotflmao:

Is this finally the year? :thumb04:
