Live on the telly or not ?

BBC can show up to 12 live league 1 games a season.

ICT were the only team in league 1 last season NOT to be featured in a live game Home or Away.

First up this season is an absolute cracker to draw in the viewers on a Saturday night.

Game 1. Hamilton v cove rangers 17.30. 30/8/25

Personally I would want an away game to feature us, but others, long distance fans, I imagine would want home or away.

Seemingly we are favourites to win the league this year. Last years favourites Arbroath featured 5 times.

I think I've posted this elsewhere fairly recently, but I can understand (even if I disagree with) the decision not to send a production crew up here as it's expensive to do....and the previous club operators also removed nearly all of the infrastructure (camera towers etc), which also adds to the cost.

Home games on TV can significantly impact club income, so it's no financial loss. Also, the last I was aware, there's no additional income for appearing on TV as used to be the case.

Mixed feelings about live TV games. I wonder if our precarious position as a club last season prevented any thought of showing us live just in case we folded 🤔

A 1730 away k.o time would mean a late return home. No doubt they'll choose QOS away now I've said that.

Seems pretty pointless being on TV if there's no financial gain.

Yes I remember it well CD. Did you copy and paste this reply.🙂

Forget home games please, I am not really interested in them personally as a season ticket holder. So that leaves 18 away games for us to be featured in at least one. It would be nice now and again to watch an away ict game live in the comfort of my home (winter), as the other 9 league 1 teams did last season. I think most of our non travelling fans would appreciate that.

Surely we will not be ignored as we were last season.

The bbc won’t be getting these games for free, ( too lazy to google it).

Every little helps.

It won't be far off free.

I recall sitting in a club meeting at Hampden discussing a proposed deal with BBC Alba, and making the point that clubs would lose more money from the deal than they would be paying for the rights to show games.

For the Astra euros game, the club had the rights to sell coverage...BBC initially offered us £600 for radio rights...and wanted exclusive coverage 😂

There's next to nothing in TV deals for clubs. However, the SPFL can, and do, remove income from clubs to the central pot and then claim they are growing income fir the league....utter BS.

The centralised YouTube thing they did a few years back is another example. ALL clubs had to send highlights to the SPFL fir the centralised channel. This meant they weren't getting income from own channels and it resulted in NO increased revenue from the league pot.

The sad thing is, that most clubs were/are blind to the fact that agreeing to it is/was cutting their own throats.

It was obvious last year that league position correlated with appearances on telly so Alba were picking their games more or less week to week, and we were at the bottom with Dumbarton and Annan.

This was in contrast to the Championship where each club got 2 home games on the BBC Scotland channel.

As a former season ticket holder at an English Premier League club, TV matches were a real problem for fans. Getting to Newcastle away that TV moved to 12:30 meant a 5am start which isn't much fun at the time, even less when you blow a 3-1 lead and lose 4-3! Having home games switched to somewhere from Friday night to Monday night and anything in between makes you even more unpopular at home when arranging family gatherings!

In my last two years as a STH I think I had maybe 3 or 4 Saturday 3 o'clock kick offs in total.

TV games are good for advertisers and armchair fans only.

Like Gringo, I hope the QoS away game in September doesn't get moved as that is the closest to me and one I have earmarked to try and get to.

Being selfish, I don’t want any home games moved for tv.

I agree with CaleyD that it is a financial blow for the club, through a reduced attendance and resulting reduced revenue through Bar 94 and the serveries.

I don’t make many away games so any picked for tv would be a bonus (for me) but I see the problems it can create for those planing to be at the away games.

Same for me Paragraph 1 and 3.

I didn’t think about the hassle it would cause travelling supporters, supporters bus etc. Me being selfish with a fish supper and a few beers watching an away game in comfort, at home. As you say a bonus

Not giving up completely, I wonder if we were selected for TV, we played well, scored a few goals, won the game, we could put a few extra bums on seats, more custom in bar 94 and serveries future home games. People who attended before but have forgotten how good going to the footie can be?

But alas, I sense another copy and paste. 🙃

End of me flogging a dead horse.

The same day as Scotland v England in the 6Ns which has a 1645 kick off time so will clash 🙄.

I will record the Alba coverage though so hopefully we play well and it'll be worth the later on the night watch 😜.
