League1 today - no fixture for us

ImageNo game for us tomorrow but here's the table and fixtures that could see Stenhousemuir join us on 26 points, but they face a tough game at East Fife. You can see that one on BBC Alba, kick-off is at 17:00.

Scotland’s night to be sure. The sending off was critical to the night. Without it I have the view the outcome would have been different. Fortune favoured Scotland last night.

Your assessment is pretty spot on I think. Although, you could argue that without the dodgy penalty for the Danes things might also have gone differently.

I had the privilege of listening to a BBC Scotland radio feed on YouTube alongside a graphic showing where the ball was as i could not get live coverage for once. Willie Miller, Chic Young, Billy Dodds and i think Faddy, all sounding like "Allaster MacAllester" rather than BBC commentators but it was actually fun to listen to. Have not heard commentators lose the nut like that since Faddy himself scored against France. Have since seen the goals and 3 of them are belters while Shankland did exactly what he was supposed to do in the box.

Give Clarke a night-hood and four year contract extension now before we reach the americas!

He is Scottish, he will probably only get an MBE.

I’m digging oot my Andy Cameron’s 45 record “We’re oan the march wi Ally’s army, we’re gonny win the World Cup”.

On to the game. Up front, Credit due where it deserved. On a wet night of drama in that old bucket Hampden, Scotland won the match. I stand by my position however Denmark were the better team and had the player of the match in Isaksen.

That said, it was a fantastic goal by McTominay. The Englishman’s awareness and athleticism was something to behold. It will be talked about for decades.

Scotland thereafter fell into there normal stout defensive brand for the remainder of the first half.

In the second half Denmark got a decision (wrongly IMO) that awarded them a penalty (and equaliser).

This was the opposite where Kirstensen was wrongly sent off IMO. The game flowed on with Denmark the much better team (with 10 men). Fair play to Clarke here, he changed out the ineffective Christie and Dykes for Shankland and Adam’s. Shankland scored the type of H Kane goal we lack. A euphoric hampden was uncontrollable in it’s excitement. The damn Danes however quickly brought that ability, skill & control to score an excellent equaliser. (Much fingernail chewing begun).

In the extra time Tierney scored an excellent goal against the Dane’s to send Hampden alight. McLean lobbed in a half way fourth when the Dane’s were all out chasing a third.

Mctominay goal was the highlight of last nights game, this is the highlight of this thread “ The Englishman’s awareness and athleticism…..”. Laughed my head off when I read it. Brilliant.

Lady Luck was with Scotland last night, and why not our turn.

An international player only has to hoof the ball anywhere but could only just Sclaff it toward tierney, who then walked onto it and hit the supreme strike.

Should’ve been a straight red, the Danish thug hauling down one of our heroes 😁

The Denmark player must have been THOR then, only a GOD could take down big John when he doesn’t want to go down.

In case some history geek challenges if Thor was danish……..😄

No, Thor is not Danish

, but aNorse godof thunder, lightning, and storms, popular across all of Scandinavia, including Denmark.

I thought there was some irony in the incorrect second yellow.

A key part of McGinn’s game is suckering players into conceding fouls against him. The ref last night was not really giving any of those and then when he did he picked the wrong one and the sending off ensued.

We definitely got the rub of the green, and why not, it doesn’t happen very often.

And we still had to score the goals to get the win, and what goals.

What a game, what a night.

And that’s three out of four major tournament qualifications for Clarke.

Yes, that right! Almost forgot. Now let us see how the last two went.

EURO 2024 Grp stage, Last with 1 point

G 5 - S 1; S 1 - CH 1; S 0 - H 1.

EURO 2020 Grp stage, Last with 1 point

S 0 - Cz 2; E 0 - S 0; Cr 3 - S 1.

Just the facts - Got there thou!

I’m curious: would you have preferred us not to qualify?

I thought that would be clear from my earlier posts, however it’s very simply,

I want our team and governing body to be performing consistently at a higher level of ability, skill and tactical awareness.

As an old dinosaur I go back to the 74 WC. I won’t reminisce or rattle on about past glories or quality of players was this or that as the game has changed through the decades. I watch on however as the ‘diddy teams’ of those years (Canada, Cyprus etc) are now on par with us. Others that would have been considered comparable. Ie Portugal, Belgium, Ireland, are ahead in just about every aspect.

Put simply, while a large body of the football world has progressed and moved to a better level, Scotland IMO has stood still, or in some respect regressed.

As I earlier mentioned, I blame the SFA and the fans for this position. Both old firm fans rage up in anger and revolt / threaten income streams if the level of performance is not at the level they expect. For all our Tartan Army fans good reputation for being good losers and dancing whilst we get thumped, Well there just might be a contributing factor coupled with Blazer SFA top brass, to why I think our national teams product had fallen in the past decades.

Does the above make me not want Scotland to succeed. ???

If only we had Law, McGrain, Dalglish, Gemmell, Bremner, Hansen, Souness etc we’d have qualified. Oh wait…

During our idle time, the postponed games in the Challenge Cup have been played and it is now official that we have won the league stage.

I’m not an expert on how the draw works, but as Dumbarton have dropped below Elgin, I think we will face either Dumbarton or Annan, but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will confirm.

Hopefully a home draw.

From what I have read this seems to be the case.
