KDM @ Partick

KDM @ FIRHILL

We try again

KDM Partick Preview.jpg

Weather permitting, the Caley Jags will face the Harry Wraggs in the last 16 of the KDM Trophy at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on Tuesday night. The snow was aplenty up North but Partick managed to play against Morton at the weekend with a stirring three goal comeback in a five goal encounter whilst we were snowed off in our home game versus Peterhead. However, don't fret if you are snowbound in the North. Should the game go ahead, the full match will be shown live on BBC Alba with a 7:45pm kick-off.

The original fixture was scheduled for 6th January but was postponed due to weather and travel conditions but the big thaw is on and we should be going ahead a week later on Tuesday 13th of January with a 19:45 Kick-off. It was also due to be screened live by BBC Alba but that is unlikely now. Since the original date, Partick went down 2-0 at Dingwall last Friday night with former Caley Jag Jay Henderson bagging two first half goals.

We faltered again away to Cove Rangers on Saturday afternoon and had Ross Munro to thank for a 96th minute penalty save to earn a point in a 0-0 draw. No wins in three for the Caley Jags but Chanka Zimba returned to the starting XI after a thigh injury.

G9LfwbSXUAAnTbq?format=jpg&name=smallThat was our team we put out against Montrose in League1 action although we have previously tweaked our side for KDM games. Logan Ross usually gets the gloves but we are in with the big boys this time so Kells and Billy will make the call on that one as we look to progress.

Our last KDM game was a bit of a mismatch as we thrashed Dumbarton 9-0 at the Rock, a record breaking score for the Caley Jags. However, we were found wanting in our next two League1 games going down away to Stenhousemuir and Montrose.

Partick will be another step up in quality and if we are serious about progressing, then we need to put a strong starting XI on the park. We gave them a game in an early pre-season encounter, but we can't read too much into that.

Two early goals from Trialist 'A' believed to be Destiny Ojo, got Inverness off to a great start at Petershill in this pre-season game against Partick Thistle. He scored in the 9th minute when Partick lost possession in midfield and Wotherspoon advanced before slipping a pass through to Ojo who found the net with a tidy finish. Another error and it's another goal for Ojo. He benefitted from the error and he took the ball round Budinauckas before rolling it into the net. It remained that score up to the interval.
HALF TIME 0-2
Three quickfire goals from Stanway, Chalmers and Stanway again put Partick ahead within 8 minutes of the restart. Stanway knocked in from close range and a minute later Chalmers, from the edge of the box, found the back of the net with an excellent finish high to the keeper's right. It got worse two minutes later when Stanway received the ball from Crawford on the right and and he fired high into the top right hand corner of the net. Three in three minutes, and that's how it ended. Looks like most subs from both sides got a game.
FULL TIME: 3-2

ImagePartick's team that beat Morton 3-2 coming from 2-0 down to take the three points at the weekend. Stanway, Turner and Tony Watt with a 94th minute strike rounding of the comeback at the death.

Against County Oisin Smyth replaced Fitzpatrick in the starting XI but he has since returned to parent club St Mirren. Partick went down 2-0 at Dingwall last Friday night with former Caley Jag Jay Henderson bagging two first half goals.

Let's not forget that despite an erratic set of results recently, Partick are still second behind St Johnstone in the Championship despite just one League win in their last six and three draws and two losses.

Mark Wilson bemoaned at Dingwall:

"If you start a game like that then it's incredibly difficult to get a foothold... We just didn't deal with those two moments well enough and gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb."

Logan Chalmers and Alex Samuels are both at Firhill.

Partick edged out Cove Rangers 1-2 in the last round with Kyle Turner and Alex Samuel getting the goals.

Game v Partick Thistle rearranged

Tuesday 13th January

Kick-Off 7:45pm

Partick Thistle have advised all tickets will transfer over to the new date automatically

The fixture backlog is a bit of a concern. We’ve now got 5 games in a fortnight starting from Saturday, the first 4 of them away from home, which will be tough on the squad.

There’s also a risk the Cove game on Saturday will be a weather victim given the amount of snow in the Aberdeen area. Hopefully the pitch is playable for it.

As I have already said, it was insane to schedule so many matches in January - for Scotland in general, not just for the teams in the north.

Have I got this right? The minimum number of games a Scottish League One (or Two) team will play this season is 47 - 36 league games, 6 KDM Evolution, 4 Premier Sports Cup, and 1 Scottish Cup. Cup runs, replays and play-offs can add to that.

Minumum number for an EPL club that's not in Europe? I reckon it's 40 - 38 league, 1 Caraboa Cup, 1 FA Cup. Possibly also cup runs and replays, but no play-offs.

Which country has the milder climate? And clubs in which league have infinitely more resources, on and off the pitch? Madness.

We really need to look at reducing the number of games to be played, and scheduling more matches towards the start and end of the season when the weather is better.

Scheduling this cup in Jan was mad. Agree with above re far too many games

As things stand, we’ll have 50 games this season:

36 league

2 Scottish Cup (hopefully at least one more)

4 League Cup

8 Challenge Cup (maybe more if we spring a surprise at Firhill)

I don’t think the EPL is the right comparator as they have a lot of teams in Europe and many players in international duty.

The Championship, League 1 and League 2 down there have 46 league games.

I don’t think the number of games, per se, is the issue, but the timing of them.

No Challenge Cup midweek games should be scheduled in December, January or February.

Let’s just be thankful replays are a thing of the past.

I’ve long been a supporter of three 16 team leagues playing each other twice instead of four times. In the grand scheme of things it wouldn’t make a massive difference to the total number of games played in a season but the reduction would be a step in the right direction and give scope for a mid-season break if there was an appetite for it.

I'm minded to think the same way, but Premier League teams will not want to cut Old Firm visits from 4 to 2 each season with the revenue loss that would bring.

As a sideshow, Ross County are due to face Partick Thistle in Dingwall tonight.

19:45 kick-off, Live on BBC Scotland I believe.

The BBC Alba TV listings don’t mention the game on Tuesday: is it not on TV now?

This one is though…..

LIVE ON BBC ALBA

THE FOLLOWING MATCH HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR LIVE BROADCAST...

Saturday February 14
William Hill League 1
Hamilton Academical v Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Live on BBC ALBA, kick-off 5.30pm

Were they not invited previously but the invite was only to ex Spfl members? Ie Brechin, Cowdenbeath, East Stirling, Berwick etc? The league rejected this offer quite rightly as it wasn’t on merit.

Would be good to invite some but it seems like a token minimal invite to me.

HL teams were always selected on merit based on league places.

The SPFL and LL fell out over teams being “invited” by the SPFL to participate which is now we ended up with no HL teams participating in the Challenge Cup as it seems it was both leagues or neither.

Yeah that sounds right, an absolute farce.

I believe the game can be bought for £10 from Partick TV

Such blatant (and cheap!) corruption. I've got a fiver in my pocket here. If anyone can match me, then we're through to the next round!

Not so. "This fixture is available to watch worldwide on PPV, including within the U.K. and Ireland."
