  1. I appreciate that Saturday's performance was not the best and that a number of players were below par but we did yet again score a late goal, in stark contrast to last season, to rescue a point. What was perhaps of more concern was the crowd of just over two and a half thousand and negative threads like this specifically aimed at seeking criticism of individual players is not going to help. By all means say how you feel about individual performances on the match day thread but to start a dedicated thread is negative beyond belief.
  2. I think the three poorest players were the three that Foran subbed. Of the OP's choice I put Vigurs and Doumbouya in with Carl Tremendous in my top 3. I think Vigurs comes in for a lot of unfair criticism on this forum and this thread seems particularly harsh. I thought he applied himself very well on Saturday, he got through a lot of work and often retain the ball well when none of his team mates were making themselves available. The manager said he felt Vigurs was "magnificent". Whilst I think that is overstating it, the manager clearly saw much in his performance which others did not. He is one of those midfielders whose role is not spectacular and whose value to the side often goes unnoticed - a bit like Roy McBaian a few years ago. What does frustrate me about Vigurs is that I would like to see him play further forward and be looking to score more. In my view, whilst he is not a striker, he is the most composed finisher in the side. Too often in recent games Doumbouya has been left with no support and we play long balls up to him but have none of the midfield available for a simply lay off. Doumbouya then has to look to either keep possession until someone is available or try and turn the defender. As a result he is more likely to lose possession and then he gets criticised. I think if Vigurs was playing further forward and looking to find space behind the striker he would score a few more. Not only that, but he has the quality to retain the ball and play the weighted passes that create goal scoring opportunities for others.
  3. For me Vigurs and Tansey are far to similar players to play in the same team. They both want to do the same thing. At times Tansey drops so deep to get on the ball it looks as if we play with three centre halfs. Warren or Meekings could be playing the passes into midfield and let Tansey get on the ball higher up the park and try to create something. I would much rather see Polworth in the centre of the park with Tansey and play Doran, a natural wide player, on the wing.
  4. Are we feeding the Fish to the Walrus? That doesn't Bode-n well....
  5. you've got to remember that managers/coaches watch the game differently to fans. And whilst most fans are guilty of watching the ball, and players on the ball, you also have to take into account the work done off the ball, and this isn't always tracking a player from one box to the other,, there are lots of subtle things our midfielders do. I think Vigz gets a lot of unfair stick because he isn't so 'obvious' and can appear to not be trying. I actually thought Doran was poor because his choices are wrong - appears to be selfishly 'trying too hard' to get that goal and 'prove his worth'. an assist is better than an off-target shot IMO. anyway, we're all forgetting the important outcome of Saturday's match..... #topsix bring on the 'well #COMEONTHECALEYJAGS #PRIDEOFTHEHIGHLANDS
  6. Fon Williams Mckay Warren Meekings Tremarco Tansey Polworth Doran Draper King Fisher
  7. Strange how fans see some things differently. First of all, have to agree a poor game overall but cannot agree over some of the comments on certain players. The criticism of Vigurs by many is harsh as he certainly put in the effort as far as I was concerned and played himself out of some tricky situations well. While Polworth may not be playing in his best/favoured position, he needs to accept that he must learn to play there and not look so lost at times. He is after all a professional footballer. Dounbaye played a bit better and did win quite a few balls in the air. He was however continually fouled while challenging for the ball (Killie players using their arms to jump over him or wrap their arms around him) which made it difficult for him. Some posters have to remember where our strikers have come from and to expect them all to hit the ground running is simply not realistic. Remember how slow some of our best goal scorers started slowly (Wyness/Dargo/Mckay) so give them some time. Someone commented earlier that the subs were okay except Boden. Given he was on the field for the least amount of time, this was harsh and I thought he did okay and complemented Dounbaye. We seriously, in my opinion, need to experiment playing with two strikers. The reality is that too many players had a bad day at the office yesterday which I am sure they will admit. It also has to be understood that our new manager will make mistakes as that is the only way he will learn. Some things he has picked up such as better use of subs and trying to win/draw late on in games which his predecessor failed miserably at but worringly perhaps he has inherited some of Hughes stubbornness in playing certain player in roles they are not suited to or leave the team unbalanced.
  8. Interesting, IHE. Worth a shot. I'd be tempted to give Tansey another chance instead of Vigurs and drop Draper back in to hold: Fon Williams McKay Meekings Warren Tremarco Draper Tansey Doran Polworth King Fisher Bring on Vigurs and Mulraney as impact subs. Vigurs sure to score a screamer at former club.
  9. Not sure if I can face the highlights...but I'm pretty sure Warren should've had a pen too-was getting strangled in the box as a ball was coming in. Its already been said, so I won't dwell on it, but that was a poor show. special mention to Killies MOM - Andrew Dallas! The quality of Scottish referees is absolutely abysmal!
  10. After watching the highlights I would say the ref made a huge mistake, Doumbouya was shoved to the ground in the box after his goal. We had just as much right to be awarded a penalty as Killy did.
  11. I try not to be critical, but that was a poor show, and I feel lucky that we salvaged a point. First half players seemed unsure as to what they were meant to be doing, and Polworth wide left did not work. I felt last week we should start Doran, Mulraney and Fisher, but Mulraney did not get much chance to make an impact, possibly as Killie's wide man was keeping Mckay busy. Fon Williams did OK. Of the back four, Mckay was poorer than I'd seen before, Tremarco was solid as always, Warren and Meekings coped ok although Meekings got an unnecessary booking (as did Polworth). Tansey and Vigurs were too close often, but both tried, albeit neither at their most effective. Draper not as big an influence as normal, and not happy at being subbed. I was in section D and there was a loud bang after he entered the dug out, but at least it didn't smash! For a large awkward guy, Doumbouya didn't win much in the air, but tried hard and got the goal we needed. I'd still like to see Fisher get a start. Doran lively, but missed a couple of chances. At least he had a go, as a couple of other players didn't shoot when shots were on. King and Boden tried when they came on. All in all, I will take the point and hope for a better performance against Motherwell and Hearts. To end on a positive, we are in the top six!
