Charlie's Comments
I can hardly imagine that a true fan can still be so bitter after the merger that they stay away--i.e. this is simply cutting off your nose to spite your face. Had the merger not taken place how could either team have had a serious future with a "combined attendance total of about 600"? Club promotion is the answer because it is positive. Dwelling on the past and saying that "change should not be allowed" is bizarre since there is change in everything every minute of the day. :006:

Are Home Crowds Falling ?
High prices for houses translate into high mortgages, meaning less disposable income. then comes feeding the bairns etc . Football is a luxury these days for a family man. One retired man in Inverness emailed me in response to my query''are you going to ICT today? and said " are you kidding, have you seen their prices?" Read into that what you may. It is true that every business must energetically market the product or service in order to have a chance of progress, let alone success. ICT must do the same ............ :006:

SPL 2ND Tier
Clicked om "more Smileys " and my computer crashed--lost post---so I will try again. No SPL2 16 teams in SPL. No splits; no play-offs--this is just for more money for the clubs I think. Two up ans two down is a must. Kill hope for other clubs and Scottish Football will continue to struggle --to it's demise maybe. If there is not enough money in the game increase the size of the leagues and players may have to take a cut in pay......and if that is a problem I suggest that kids stay at school and complete an apprenticeship in some trade before starting a full-time football career. Then they have something to fall back on if and /or when things don't work out or they get injured etc. :017:

Dods
If Russell Latapy is still haring around the pitch at age 38 or so and commanding the play all over the park then why on earth will Mr Dods not be able to maintain his fitness level and command his turf just as well in the future? The bottom line is that 25K or 35K is a very speculative but rather insulting figure for him based on his performance of last season and it may be "nothing personal , only business ", for D.U but I could not imagine ICT will give such an offer anything more than an irritated sniff. Money must be really tight at Tannadice ! Whew! 35K ?.................... :015:

New supporters welcome?
Aussie _lad I like the cut of your jib. Any poster that can put a bit of salt on IHE's tail deserves a cursory flick of the eyebrow. But doooo watch out for FWife, Currently she is having a thing with JB but I don't think anything is going to come of it. Have to ask her hubby about that though....although, I muse, your direct and breezy approach might work with this one...hmmmm....I like her jib aussie (no pun intended). :002: And Mee, pray tell, who is on your list of mentally unstable punters on this site.....? :016: Finally, Aussie Lad, if you get bored you can always go to Skara Brae up there and gaze out over the ocean of freezing water and dream of the Caley park. Then drift intae the toon and walk along the cobbles to the jetty with teh Shetland boat tied up there--onwards then to Up Hellie 'A or whatever, as a prelude to the ICT versus Rangers match.... :015:

Dods
This raises several issues: Has Mr Sutherland painted himself into a corner with his previous statement? My opinioon is simply ..no. He preserved ICT's right not to trade or discuss a transfer for those players who figure in the club's plans. Dods still is in contention for a place and...regardlesss of the action off the park.....he would be well advised to produce his very best if he is favoured by being in the team on the park. What has he to gain by doing otherwise? It serves no useful purpose for the Managerment to pout and play childish--in fact the Management of ICT over the past few seasons does not appear to have this trait at all. At the same time it is chawing for them to put up with Mr Brewster's cantrips and persistence when he does not want to pay the asking price. How many times can you say no, we want our asking price, before you really start to get upset? The bottom line here is a very simple situation: 1. Brewster--persuade Thompson to pay ICT's price and then complain only if ICT don't allow Dods to go. Whether we like it or not, the situation has gone too far for Dods to ever really feel at home here again in my opinion and I feel that if Brewster offered a FAIR price for a man who has played very well last season ICT could see their way to agree to the transfer--but why the hairoil should they give a player a chance, grease his wheels and meet their commitment to him contractwise and then roll over and die just for another quitter like Brewster who does not have the interests of ICT at heart at all. If they do what kind of a precedent is that setting. 2. If Brewster will not increase the "derisory" offer give Dods one more chance to play in the first team and advise him of the club's expectations. Failing a full commitment from him put him in the reserves, agree to transfer him and let him go to the highest possible bidder within their price range. This is a firm and fair approach since contracts must be respected and players who cannot understand that even in this day and age can then in the future decide whether they want to play for a team that has standards of morality to which they are willing to subscribe. 3.The team must set the tone of the debate and the decision, not the player. The player seeks to better himself but this also applies to the team of ICT who in addition have a responsibility to the paying public, especially those who have supported ICT through thick and thin. 4. Whether a player wants to be closer to his family or not this is NOT the issue. As a mature adult he is aware that separations in the pursuit of his career are possible and may be inevitable in order to meet his commitments to his employers and to further his career. If he, after discussions with his family , considered that playing for a team is likely to lead to unhappiness first and foremost then perhaps he should not have agreed to the initial deal at all. This is a matter of business and the honouring of contracts . Anything else is simply a distraction from the issues. The final decision to play or not to play is his and if ICT have treated him fairly why are they obligated to compromise their own inherent interests by considering his personal problems as more important than the bigger matter of their own responsibilities to the team and to the paying public? The punters on here who repeatedly stress that no one player is bigger than the team are dead right. Pay a fair and fuller price Brewster or GTF. And if The Board do not want to sell Dods, then tough luck Dods here's a soother for the Edinburgh train----and Brewster GTF. Period. :008:

Testing Times for Christie
Yup, Charles, it must be something to do with generations---I don't have much of a clue what you are talking about either. :005: It's like who is Poin and Poinsetta--if you get my poin-t. After all I have just learnt about toe-in and toe-in'- in't-right re my car. And with that new electronic injection stuff they tell me we don't need a carburettoror distributor cap any more. changes, changes. And when I heard on the tele recently that we will soon be having s-x with our computers I must say that I :015:woke up from my sixtogenarian slumbers but my hearing was so bad that I just could not make out what they were saying----knocking the ear trumpet doesn't seem to work as well as it used to but knocking-up the lap top may soon solve all my problems ..... :015:

Worst performance yesterday
Under this category can also be lumped the poor turnout--not exactly designed to lift the atmosphere and team to great heights---- this particularly true in view of the fact that apparently St Mirren brought at least one thousand or more with them. Commentator on radio could only speculate as to how many but referred to ''the thousands that came North to support St Mirren". So, about 2000 to 3000 home fans in the park for an SPL first game....? :017:

ICT 1 - 2 St Mirren (FINAL SCORE)
Listening to the commentary on the BBC radio I was struck by how unenthusiastic it was by Kerredine Issadane--I wondered if there was a game being played in the first half. I liked Alan Kernaghan's comments though--staedy head he seems to have, screwed on right. It also sounded as if the team were not up for it--like the spirit was down or they still thought that this was a bit of a bounce game during the off season-- and I do feel that they took St Mirren lightly. Frankly, the whole feeling for me was .....ominous for the future. Scary dark feelings.... :009: However, it sounds as if Rankin is a player with class and he appears to have vison and can read the play. When his confidence improves he could be an outstanding play-maker. Maybe Brewster did get to these players since Dods did not seem to be focused on the game or his role for this one. Better get a grip at the back or ICT's much vaunted defence will be anything but.... Dargo will have to stop this diving nonsense if future employers are going to take him seriously. Already he is the subject of comment from outside and he does neither himself as a future professional nor his team any credit by quacking at the ref or diving like a swallow at the drop of a hat. Point is that he has too much talent to taint it totally so early in a promising career. :019:

Lets get down to feckin business
One day the inimitable Scarlet will go to a game with the irrepressible IHE --and probably will wind up being thrown out by the unbearable stewards in an impossible scenario of "it wisnae us, it wiz they guys doon the front....." This followed by an unexpected protest to the ref followed by an unctuous apology from the Management all of which will be understandably unpopular furra reason that the baying crowd needs someone to blame when the game on ra park is so boring that the great unwashed gets uppity and needs to point a finger at someone just to start a right-down -regular rammy to lighten up their pathetic lives. Meantime, back at the ranch, the pious pair will have slipped under the stand un-noticed , unloved and in their undies--the understanding being that the outer raiment was ripped off in an uncharacteristic fracas of the survival of the fittest won by the old farts just in the nick of time by wily guile which trumped youthful aggression. The opposition having mounted a full frontal attack with a view to re-arranging said old forts' attire with a view to encouraging full frontal nudity. The final curtain will come down on a scene of utter bewilderment with the occupants of "the under the stand" being cosseted by the ICT lady fans with soothing whimpers of "there, there, boys, stop your nervous twitchings ; it's all over now bar the shouting...Er..and there is plenty of that up above". Aye ,and the ref had lost total control with the players having got the whiff of something and throwing themselves into the melee; the Managers of the respective clubs were hammering each other with their billiard balls wrapped in their powder puffs inside their hankies, the linesmen were on their cells phoning the cops who had long ago decided that discretion was the better part of valour and were phoning the Super to say that the traffic lights 100 metres from the ground had stuck and delayed their entry to the park. Then the linesmen got a whiff of the same something which later turned out to be IHE's dried tea leaves being surreptitiously smoked in a Meerscham pipe by the Squirrel in the bog under the stand, tried to trample the Squirrel to get at the stuff and were prevented from doing real damage by the same ladies administring to the prostrate oldies because they could not bear to allow damage to anything soft and fluffy bearing in mind that squirrels were already dying out in the U.K. Everybody escaped relatively unscathed and later mused that it had been a great match give or take a few heart-stopping moments and a few bruises ... Well, that's my cuppa tea finished and I am off to sleep off the effects. Wheest, IHE, send me the recipe soon willya?... 'till the next :015:time......eh?

Evidence OF Further Progress
Yes. Progress will be slow--meaning cautious and canny. Good--for now. :006: And it should not be the chaos as in Dundee United F.C. Brewster, Brewster all the way He's not doing so well but he's on big pay His boss is demanding that he gets some top players Looks like he will have to turn to his soothsayer. IHE--there's a call from some guy named Wayne and Shuster--did I get it right? :016:

You Tell Them Davie Boy!!
It's easy to understand why DS must be pulling his hair out. DUFC have now unsettled things at ICT just before an important testing first match. And if they DO get any of the players as a result of this most recent approach it will now make DS and/or the management at ICT look indecisive---or desperate for money. Speculation--wrong move Mr Brewster, you are stuffed mate. :019:

Rankin deal off !!
Depends on what is in the contract signed between the Agent and Rankin. If it says a certain percentage then I don't see at all why the club should fork out anything else for the Agent. The rub is ...where was his fee supposed to come-from in the contract terms, out of the transfer fee or out of the player's Bank account? :sleep01:

Boardroom Changes
Charles Thanks for your allegedly somewhat lengthy post. New faces
Well he may be old, cheps, but he still has a twinkle in his toes and also in his periwinkle. The reference to gay to which you allude is far from what you lot might aver--i.e perhaps someone with energy and charm but carried off with aplomb--D'Artagnan of the 3 musketeers springs to mind. Or Erroll Flynn in his young day;well, that was long before he visited the "Only" fish and chip shop in downtown Vancouver and then went off to sleep with his 16 year old gal pal. Must have exhausted the poor lad 'cos he died that night . The word blade was inserted 'cos in sheffield they make plenty of them for shaving faces the old-fashioned way. Swords too I believe. Gawd this is tortuous--so we move naturally to anything else that will rhyme with that, such as Gaylord.....you lads really will have to try harder in the interpretation class of 2006. :015: Thank you Scotty for explaining the situation to this old lad who can even remember cut-throat razors at Scotty the Barber's shop in Greig Street. Fascinating stuff..... :sleep01:
