When Will We Get Our Own Identity?
On the Highland Flag theme - there is alreday an off the shelf red and blue version available that doesn't look anything like an union jack.... :thumb04: Bit of a northern viking feel to it....?

All-time Highlanders XI
I think Ted actually played for Scotland a few times in the seventies, now a millionaire (?) in Canada . Not bad for a local lad. From last year's "This Football Day" article on Ted - scoring nine goals in a match and a summary of the rest of his career....could do with a player like him up front tomorrow in our Scottish Cup tie.... November 20th - Mac o'Nine Tails TED MacDougal might sound more like a resident of Craggy Island than a record-breaking footballer, but today in 1971 the Bournemouth striker went goal-crazy, bagging nine goals in an FA Cup tie against non-league Margate. SuperMac didn?t waste much time against the Gate, scoring five in the first half before completing his treble hat-trick after the break as Bournemouth romped to an 11-0 win. The nine goal haul remains the most goals scored by a single player in an FA Cup match. The Scottish striker was something of a journeyman. Racking up ten clubs in a 24-year career, he was nothing if not prolific. After being released by Liverpool as a 20-year-old he made a name for himself at York City, scoring 40 goals in two seasons and earning a ?10,000 move to the club that was then known as Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic. A three year spell at Dean Court was goal-packed, with many of them trademark diving headers. Proving he had a taste for the FA Cup, a year before his exploits against Margate, MacDougal put six past Oxford City in an 8-1 win. After three seasons and 126 goals SuperMac left the now-rebranded AFC Bournemouth for the heady lights of Old Trafford in a ?200,000 move. With United struggling to replace Sir Matt Busby the club looked to blood in a new generation of stars as legends like Denis Law and Bobby Charlton were past their best and George Best?s boozing was becoming more and more of a problem. A forgettable season at United saw MacDougal move to West Ham, but after a dressing room punch up with Billy Bonds following a defeat to Leeds United, he was on his bike again. Spells at Norwich and Southampton followed, where he got back on the goal bandwagon, before he returned to Dean Court for two seasons. After a year in America at NASL side Detroit Express SuperMac spent his final season by the seaside at Blackpool and hung up his boots with a record of 259 goals in 542 games.

Interesting move - player/coach.... At the same time St.Mirren have picked up Ian Harte on a short-term contract - not a bad piece of business by Gus.... BBC - Ian Harte Off to Parkhead in the summer then....

All-time Highlanders XI
Just a few.... Jupie Mitchell - although greatly (and rightly) remembered as part of the great Caley teams of the late 40's early 50's he also played for the Jags where in the 1954-55 season he scored 77 goals....can't say I ever saw him play but you have to be a fairly decent player to do that.... Jim Calder - remember him.... Peter Corbett - not a bad player indeed.... Davie Milroy - another very decent centre-half....

The Butcher And Malpas Show
Glad to hear it - Butcher's humour is one of his assets and the fact that he can also laugh at himself - but then once you have won so many trophies and been to the world cup then you know you will also get respect from players who want to achieve the same.... How many people attended the event?

Brian Kerr signs
I think this could be a very good signing and also think that once he is an ICT shirt we will see something different from the player.... I think this is one of the things that Terry is alluding to when he says there is something special about the club - average players can play above themselves in a good footballing environment and who knows what good players can achieve.... Alex's point about being away from the big city environment is definitely a major factor for some players especially those who still need to prove something....

Strachan
I agree he does like to whine about things but I thought wee Chick always does his best to set up the questions to get him into this mode... I thought some of his pre-match interview comments on Setanta were spot on and as for the post-match comments I actually think that you can take heart from them as I thought they were actually complimentary about the struggle that he always faces when his teams come north....we just need to achieve this when others come to visit also.... If you listen to the full interview though Chick himself was having a dig at us with some of his questions and for me he is without doubt the most annoying (and brown nosing) person associated with Scottish football...

Watford Observer stated around 50K which is probably correct - may be some additional fee (although probably minimal ) if they stay up as he was allowed to go early. Watford Observer

Liverpool To Win The Title?
I would like to see Liverpool take the title but Rafa has lost the plot - he has hounded Keane out of the club and it may come back to bite him. Either Torres will get injured or on the last day of the season if Liverpool are still in the hunt and Spurs visit Anfield on Sunday 24th May Keane will score and deprive them of the title.... He should have kept Keane as he may need him but instead has used him like a pawn to make a personal point to the board.... Utd though look strong and keep drafting in replacements who are just as good as those that have been injured.... therefore for me I think Utd will win it again.

Flag/banner To Welcome El Tel
I think some of the Celtic banners might be a little fruity given their relationship with our new manager....

Butchers Interview
In all honesty at the moment I would be happy to see Bayne back as he think he is the type of player we need at present to help us out.... Just mentioned it on another thread but was impressed by Butcher on his sky sports interview and liked the way he can laugh at himself with the "at least I've never been sacked in Scotland...." quote in response to a question about his time at Sydney and Brentford....

Butcher is Boss
Tel is on sky sports now - with his new tie on.... Loved the quote "I've never been sacked in Scotland...." - nice humour....
