Inverness Royal Academy of Olde
old caley girl replied to IMMORTAL HOWDEN ENDER's topic in Olde Inverness
Very true! The photo which IHE has produced is quite a well known one. It shows the Rector D.J. MacDonald taking "prayers" (aka assembly) in the 50s. The teachers, of whom I can recorgnise one or two, are sat round the walls. (Anybody of a certain age able to spot Hairy Hugh?) Brian Denoon, ex Head of English at the High School, has a smashing anecdote about one of the First Year boys who in this photo can be seen standing to either side of the Rector. Apparently one boy simply fainted and was scraped up off the floor by the Janitor and removed from the Rectorial presence so the proceedings could continue. In these days assembly was held in what later because the library, after the big extension, including a new hall, was added in the early 60s. Mr Denoon was my English teacher in the High School. Brilliant teacher. Also taught in Fort Augustus I believe...Is there a similar thread on here for High School memories? -

My mum attended the Academy in the late 40s/ early 50s. She went to her school reunion a few years ago and felt she was still looked down upon by her former classmates as she was a Merkincher in those days! -

PAY WHAT YOU WANT - ST JOHNSTONE 20TH JANUARY
old caley girl replied to CELTIC1CALEY3's topic in Caley Thistle
Although obviously they don't have to I would expect some season ticket holders to take part in this? Just an extra way of helping the club in a small way? -

Money tight in January so worth a go? Club asking fans to help spread the word. Tickets can be bought in advance or pay on the night.... -
Matchday Thread Inverness CT -V- St Mirren
old caley girl replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
I do despair at times listening to some of our fans and their 'expectations' they have of the lads. We're currently sitting fifth in the table and are within touching distance of our rivals whilst still producing some of the best football we've ever played as a team. Sure today was pretty grim viewing from an attacking sense but defensively the team looked resolute and solid throughout, with Raven producing yet another fantastic performance as you mention. However, the return of Nick Ross to the starting XI was a pleasing surprise and in my opinion he should have been awarded man of the match for his constant energy and willingness to drive forward with the ball on a day when our midfield was mostly static and devoid of an attacking threat further emphasising the importance of Marley Watkins to the side. Being in the North Stand I can't comment fully on the manager today but your comment does sound highly petty. I'd never been his biggest admirer, but he's answered his critics time and time again and won over much of the support for his clear enthusiasm and his style of play which has bare fruit countless times this season; which funnily enough is far more attractive than his predecessors 'kick and chase' tactics. John Hughes went to watch from the stand for a while according to the radio. I didn't notice from the north stand either tbh. TB used to do this all the time don't remember him getting any flack for it? Quite happy personally with a scrapy win. It's 3 points that counts! -
I stand corrected. It's a bit of an ethical dilemma should footballers who commit a serious crime be treated differently to say a plumber? I don't know really...

I'm not sure how I feel about Ched Evans tbh. Doubt I'd want him to play for us tbh but I'm uncomfortable that he's served his time but the media and now the Government don't seem to want him to resume his life and earn a living.....

Matchday Thread Ross County -V- Inverness CT
old caley girl replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
Viccy Park used to be a good wee ground back in the day. When County won promotion to the SPL there was a load of hot air about what a fabby wee stadium it would be, but I was warning anybody that would listen that it would turn into a library once they got all those new seats. Was reminiscing with L_G about this on Thursday, remembering when both ends were terraces and bouncing! The away end does benefit from being so close to the pitch tho....- 101 replies

Starting the ball rolling with Nick Ross at ER. No other explanation needed

I think that's right? I think it seems narrower due to the stands being much nearer the pitch? We had the same debate last year. Whether the pitch is bigger, smaller or the same size the fact is we beat them 3-0 and played them off the park with one of the best performances I've seen from any ICT team. Same again would be good. By the way, I understand that County still have plenty tickets for sale and are surprised that ICT shut up shop early for New Year and didn't want more tickets once the original 1,000 were sold. Why would ICT pay staff to sell tickets for another club? ICT ran out and the directed fans to buy through County and collect tomorrow. BTW County cancelled their bus from the north due to lack of interest

Obviously that would have been better!

Personally didn't see much between the team's except us losing a bad goal?

I'm starting a newctopic so this gets noticed so can a moderator delete tomorrow thanks. There will be a final chance to book and secure a seat on the buses to County on Thursday. Price is £5 return and buses will leave from Strouthers Lane (tk maxx) or the stadium at 1.15 pm. We will be at the stadium selling these from 10-1 tomorrow. Match tickets can be bought from the club shop until 1 pm as far as I know.
