You're living in the past. Fixed wage structures are OK for part time lower league clubs. They are completley impractical for modern professional outfits, which I'm sure ICT aspire to be. We have to move with the times. Your 'no superstars/good team spitit attitude' would see us back in the lower leagues within two or tree years IMO. Living in the past? Yeh, because Dunfermline, Dundee, Livingston and even Ross County have done so well by spending well beyond their means. I remember that a few years ago when Calderwood was at Dunfermline it was said that they would have to qualify for the Uefa cup every year to break even as their players were on so high a weekly wage. That, I'm afraid is a ludicrous situation for a team of their size to get into, and I hope we never go down that road. I think we have done remarkably well so far with the wage structure we had and the last thing we need is get back into debt and join the long list of teams in Scotland who owe the bank tens of millions.

I think the signing of Niculae was a mistake for this very reason. With the wages he (Niculae) is on it creates divide in the squad. ICT has always (in the past) been a club where all the top players were on roughly the same wages, we had no superstars but a great team spirit. Now if Duncan wants a big pay rise because - 'Niculae is getting x amount, so I want more than your offering', then where does it end? The next player with a contract nearly up will say 'Duncan is getting x amount, so I want the same' Before you know where you are you have the whole 1st team squad on higher wages than is finacially viable for a club with the size of support we have. Look at Dunfermline they are now in the first division with a huge wage bill, for instance Aberdeen tried to buy Wilson from Dunfermline but he didn't go because - 'he couldn't afford to take the pay cut' ! As I say I think the signing of Niculae (on those wages) was a mistake, is he any better than Brew or Dargs were for us? I don't know if he is, and I think we should not be held to ransom by Duncan and stick to our guns, even though I would not won't to lose him, it may be the lesser of 2 evils.
  5. I couldn't agree more. I think this was very naive managing by Brewster - he thinks McBain can play anywhere, but he is a very one sided player (that's LEFT sided Brew) and should not be playing right midfield especially when we have Wilson and Hart who could play there. I thought our other worst player on Sunday was Paatelinan (sp), I would prefer to see McBain on the left instead (pity we lost Rankin as he played well there). I was really disapponted with Brewster and Thompson as I would have expected more from them than playing a guy so obviously out of position, TBH it was a shame for Roy to be asked to play there as he had to cut back inside everytime on to his favoured left.
  6. Although I think this started off as a good question - as somebody would have to replace Rankin in taking penalties. It does seem to me rather a pointless discussion as we could all say - well I would go for - Tokely, Duncan, Black, Cowie etc etc but how do we know if they are any good at taking them them? Just because you are a good player does not necessarily make you a good penalty taker and vice-versa. The Manager will know who the best/most confident is from watching them all taking penalties in training. BTW, IMHO a goalkeeper should NEVER be the penalty taker (apart from in a penalty shoot-out) for the obvious reason - if he misses then he has to try and get back before the other team scores.
  7. I have only ever supported Caley (then ICT), Aberdeen and Scotland My support for Aberdeen has diminished over the years but I still look out for their results and they will always be my 2nd team.

I never thought I would hear you say it Icytea ( :023: ) and I have to agree - Duncan was brilliant today. He was IMHO our best player today even better than Denzil who was also great. His passing was almost faultless and he even scored :crazy07: :crazy07: Next your be saying you like McCallister Icytea , no maybe not.

Denzil was brilliant today, nuff said :021:
  10. Can anyone actually tell me - what are the words of the banned Old firm songs that seem to cause such a fuss?
  11. Just you stay out of this, Stomach.... Haven't you caused enough trouble on here...?? :018: :017:
  12. That's probably what they meant and is Braveheart any good? I've never seen it. I would like to think they did have auditions for King of Scots back then and that the main judge was famous throughout the land for his witty putdowns and for wearing his kilt far to high :rolleyes02: I take it you are kidding when you say you haven't seen Braveheart? If not then go watch it, it is a very good film ( and the soundtrack is great too)
  13. Well said :clapping03:
  14. Didn't mean to start a fight guys :023: I was just wanting to know what Old firms actually sing and what the meaning of the songs are
  15. I think at this stage as long as you avoid the Old Firm then it is a good draw. Aberdeen are definitely beatable, but then again so are we :003:
  16. I was having a discussion with a mate of mine (unfortunately a Rangers fan) and he was saying how he thought the media have blown out of all proportion the so called bigoted songs that are sung by either side of the old firm. I said that I thought these songs were terrible and had no place in football. He said they are only designed to wind up the other Old firm team and did no real harm as they were usually only about a battle that had happened hundreds of years ago and used Flower of Scotland as an example of this and said it was not much worse that this. TBH I wouldn't say I know or particulary cared too much about the Old firm so could not argue with him with any real facts. So, can anyone tell me what these so called Bigotry songs are about and why they have/should be banned, i.e I need some ammunition for my next 'discussion' with him. Cheers

I would say that if it was a friendly then I would be neutral, but then if it was a competitive game I would support Scotland. As peoples allegiances for clubs is optional whereas I think your nationality should be more personal and important. I am a passionate ICT fan, but I am definitely more of a passionate Scot!!!!

Only kidding :015: I have seen Langfield many times, seen Malkowski quite a lot and have seen more of Ridgers than you (just) :015:

Again you know this how? What is your problem Chris? :029: As with everything else in life football is all about opinions, I believed what I said about Ridgers/Langfield/Malkowski to be correct, but then again it is only my opinion I never said it was gospel. You should notice my use of the word "think" on both occasions, I never said I "know" at all!!! I baised what I said on the fact I have seen all the above keepers on many occasions. No one can say that everything they say on here is fact (including you I may add) as someone could think a player is brilliant whereas someone else will say he is hopeless- that is football I'm afraid. I have no problem with you having an opininon on the boy, aslong as its not a wild guess. If you have been to a few reserve games this season and watched the boy play and think he doesnt cut the mustard than fair enough, however if you are having a wild stab in the dark, simply because the boy comes from the lower leagues, then thats where I get annoyed. I remember him putting in a superb preformance against Rangers in the reserves, however thats all Ive seen of the boy so I cant exactly judge him, however staying in Aberdeen I have seen Langfield play a few times and he makes Malkowski look like Petr feckin Cech You know this how?

Thanks for the back up CaleyD, but TBH I am never surprised to see Elgin let in 4 or more as they have been gash ever since they got into the Scottish league :015:

  22. I think danny DeVito could play a lot of our players, past and present e.g Stewart, Glancy, Keogh, Black and especially Macdonald
  23. stomach replied to scm1976's topic in Caley Thistle
For all those saying Ridgers is so good - I think he is back where he belongs - the lower leagues, not the SPL and I still think Langfield is much better than Malkowski
  24. stomach replied to scm1976's topic in Caley Thistle
Who would you rather have in goal - Langfield - who has been full time all his life, been involved in Scotland squads and someone who Aberdeen recently turned down a ?50,000 (I think it was) bid from Rangers. or Ridgers - ICT youth player, then Clach player, before rejoining ICT What an illustrious career I'm not saying Langfield is brilliant but he is at least much better than Ridgers and is every bit as good (if not better than) Fraser- lets not forget he would still be number 1 choice at Aberdeen if he hadn't fallen out with Calderwood.
  25. stomach replied to scm1976's topic in Caley Thistle
Think Brew should sign Jamie Langfield from Aberdeen as he is out of favour with them (Calderwood said he would never play for him again) and Fraser needs competition which I don't think he will get from Ridgers
