  1. A Murdoch proposal I believe... He won't get away with it. There will still be plenty of channels open for digesting the news - he can't shut them all down.
  2. H/Dee... I think you and I should check this place out, next time we meet up in the town for a wee swally.... Anyone else care to join us? (You're not as old as Alex, surely?)
  3. Tight Fife git!!! I think "prudent" is the word you are looking for. (Like that other Fife git!)
  4. I think he probably has.... As he rightly suggests, it is a subject worthy of a proper investigation.
  5. I'm quite sure you will have a much better idea than I do, as to the present state of the club's finances. If matters are approaching a stage where a cash injection will be required just to keep the club afloat, should that come from those who have brought the club to its present state?
  6. Little bit of a paradox here methinks... Don't the top shareholder and the current board have a major say in the manner in which the club is currently being run?
  7. Is this a wind up Alex? Or have you forgotten about mass unemployment, the complete demolition of our iron, steel and coal industries, interest rates at a record 15%, negative equity, the imposition of the ghastly poll tax on Scotland a year before the rest of the UK. The selling off of council houses created a desperate shortage of affordable rented accommodation for all those she had made reduntant. The Thatcher years were a living nightmare. Would you really want to go back down that road?
  8. What will you say in 10 years time? 2000 and 20?
  9. The only good thing about Sainsburys is that it keeps the riff raff out of Waitrose.
  10. I can't honestly remember the last time I looked at teletext.... I'm surprised it is still going, considering the manner in which the internet has developed over the past 10 to 15 years. I also used to be an avid Scotsman reader.... not anymore. Apart from the fact it has gone way downhill in recent years, most of it can be read online - free of charge. Why cough up 80p a day (?1.30 on Sundays) just to get your hands covered in newsprint?
  11. Yes, I thought that by now Dornoch Caley would have been screaming for the collectivisation of the West Coast crofters in advance of taking their produce into market in carts drawn by tractors produced according to the Five Year Plan! Yeap.... Dornoch Caley's just sold his priciples down the river!! Even if he had said he (and his mum) only shop at the Co op stores, there might have been some hope for him.... Alas.... Not now...
  12. :D I think our Ronnie might just be a wee bit short of full match fitness... Thanks for the suggestion though, Sorted.... Any advance on Ronnie from the Corries?
  13. Could all those on this thread who are critical of Boyd coming back into the Scotland picture, kindly suggest who they would rather see in his place?
  14. I generally find a better selection of beers at Tescos, but apart from that I prefer Morrisons.
  15. Incredibly.... "neither of the above". (By the way I am assuming you mean "they Tesco" as opposed to "they Morrisons") Apologies for the ambiguity. I have friends who won't go anywhere near any Tesco stores because their obsession with selling only the Freshest Produce!
  16. Charles : You mentioned on another thread that you prefer to shop at Morrisons rather than Tescos. Does this have anything to do with the fact that they sell live turtles in their stores in China, or does it have something to do with the way they treat chickens?
  17. Owen Coyle was quoted as saying just last week that he was "privileged to be building something special" at Burnley, he also acknowledged that Bolton would "always have a special place in my heart". Perhaps more pertinently, he also reflected that: "Bolton have about three times Burnley's budget." I think the stumbling block here will be the 3 Million fee Bolton would have to pay Burnley for Coyle's services. He is only about 6 months into a 5 year contract at Turf Moor. I wonder if they are aware it would cost them much less to sign up Terry Butcher?
  18. Thanks Yngwie.... For some days now I have been considering switching my utilities supplier to Scottish Gas. I've now made up my mind to stick with my present supplier!
  19. For some reason only Morrison and Tesco trucks observe that 40mph limit, while at the same time ignore signs requesting slow vehicles to use lay-bys to permit overtaking.
  20. If only he could organise his defence in a similar fashion, but then again, perhaps he should be made captain. Actually I'm assuming the man in the red cagoule was Tokely, but perhaps I've picked this up wrong...
  21. Looking out my window. and looking at the weather forecast, I'd say it's very unlikely the game will go ahead. I'm quite sure the club could get the pitch playable and the stadium safe for spectators, but the old bill will probably decide it should be called off. They'll be busy enough on Saturday, making sure hardy shoppers can get to the retail parks.
  22. Very difficult decision for him - Bolton are a bigger club, with much more potential than Burnley. I agree that if he keeps Burnley in the top flight, there won't be any shortage of job offers for him. I think he should stay put for the time being.
  23. Are you sure that's the reason he was calling you names, DJ?
  24. I agree with Birdog in that the punishment would be related to the consequences of Billy Smith's action, and for that a substantial custodial sentence would be appropriate. Should also add that Jimmy Jones was unlucky to get done if he had completed his journey, and his driving was not giving any cause for concern. Generally speaking, the police have to have reasonable cause to suspect someone may have been drinking, or observe that person commit a moving traffic offence before they can stop and breathalyse. It is still breaking the law of course.
