  1. Dundee United Chairman Eddie Thompson said, “I felt it was in the best interests of the Club to move swiftly and appoint an experienced Manager without undue delay. I have made extensive enquiries with knowledgeable people in the game and Craig Levein not only comes highly recommended in every category of the criteria set by the Board, but has a proven track record and an excellent reputation for man management. He also has extensive contacts in England and abroad and these will be important as we look to strengthen the squad in the next transfer window. I am delighted to be able to announce his appointment today.” Craig Levein said, “I am delighted to join Dundee United and to be back in the SPL. ............................... when Mr Thompson spoke with me about this job I felt I had to take the opportunity to come here. I fully appreciate the scale of the task before me but I am confident that I can help Dundee United to climb the league. I am under no illusions......................................................... .......................... that there will be an easy quick fix, but I would not have taken the job if I did not believe I could make a difference nor would I have considered coming to Tannadice if I did not believe that there was a determination to succeed within the Club. "I have some experience of managing change .................................................................. ............ this is not a club ‘in crisis’. ......., the budget is reasonable, ................the playing squad is better than the league position suggests. ...... I am confident for the future.” THE END.
  2. Not as cheap as this: "Inverness tried very hard to keep us, with a contract offer through to 2009, but I just feel there's great potential at Dundee United," continued Brewster. "The fans believe they should be better than where they are because there are good players, but I say the league position never lies. But there is potential - a great stadium, good training facilities, a great fan-base and, sure, they've got some decent players. Terry Butcher's Sydney team drew tonight and his chairman may help Dunfermline make the correct decision.

    WYNESS

With some very hard fixtures coming up it's time to make Denzil very angry. He's due some goals on his return possibly from midfield to give us more options.
  4. Barnsley are the Dundee United of Yorkshire..... 22 Barnsley 14 -10 12 23 Southend 14 -13 10 24 Hull 14 -10 9 Darren Dods is contracted to ICT until May 2007 afterwhich it is possible both his suitors will have been relegated.
  5. That's bad news for us - we play at Celtic Park on the Saturday before their Tuesday game against Manchester United. Looks as though we will be given more attention that the Red Devils.
  6. The thread should be serialised by the BBC and given the title 'Donedee Disunited' or 'ET go home' staring Jim MacLean.
  7. Ralphy Boy Who said I was criticising Brewster in its entirety? Dundee United have deep rooted problems and Brewster's failing was that emotion and money sucked him in. Money will suck him out and I am sure he will then head to Greece to lick his wounds and start work again. Potentially he is a very good professional person and I give him great credit for the way that he has built himself up in society and looked after his physical fitness. Very few people today would suggest he has done a good job for Dundee United this time around. In fact he has been brutally honest that his record is completely unacceptable and his use of inexperienced players yesterday shows that like Bertie, he lacks faith in the squad he built up. Why did he ditch highly experienced players and then argue a few months later he didn't have any experience in the team? Craig feels you have to plumb the depths before you can start climbing again.Clubs need decent fans like yourself to stay to the renaissance.
  8. It's like Dad's Army, bottom by one point, 25 or more games to go, 2 more wins likely and with the crowd shouting 'Don't Panic'. Stillie dropped after calling a crisis meeting to support the Manager. The press think it's all over, ......
  9. He needs the pay off - the Grocer will offer £150,000 and Brewster will go fo £80,000, hesitate and go back and ask for £65,000.
  10. Post match BBC Radio Scotland 'Right at the start of the game we lost a goal at the start. It was either going to go one way or the other given the team I put out. It went the other way.' He must be an inspiration in his team talks.
  11. Barry Robson today "If we can start turning draws into wins you'll see us climb the table.''
  12. Should the question not be : Which club is in greater turmoil Hearts Dundee United
  13. Heard a Hearts fan on the radio last week point out that Romanov had not spent a penny on Hearts. OK his bank might just be servicing its debts but Romanov was far from a white knight. Virtually all the players were on loan deals and as we saw during the week some transfers are being questioned. We now know he plans Scotlands first car boot sale for football players come Sunday if Dunfermline can extract three points.
  14. 13 January 2006 Brewster takes over at Tannadice Brewster added: "It's very difficult to walk away but I've been given an opportunity that I feel is right for me at this moment." I'm setting no targets other than to get the best out of the players. I'm looking for better performance levels, and if we get that, we'll get results. 23 October 2006 The funereal atmosphere around Tannadice these days is understandable. Mair ''God knows what direction we're going in," Alex Smith. ''Craig needs help.''
  15. 24 October 2006 Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson insists it is 'business as usual' despite speculation over the future of player-manager Craig Brewster. 16 December 2005 Dundee United manager Gordon Chisholm insists it is "business as usual" even though he could face the sack if his side do not beat Dunfermline Athletic.
  16. The Grim Reaper - My heart has always been at Tannadice and I hate to see them in the position they're in.........and anyway Craig Brewster's still the manager.
  17. But McGowne realises the importance of lifting themselves for the visit of Caley on Saturday and said: "We've got to put as much into this game as we did against Rangers. "It's nice playing against the big teams and in front of big crowds. However, it's also vital we put as much into the other game.'' Is he taking the mickey?
  18. Russell is a very decent hard working player. However, so is Caff, Golly. Liam, Michael, Richie, Zander, Rory, etc etc but unfortunately there are but 11 spaces each game. In this league a suspension, a few poor games or an injury can be the passport to losing one's place. That is true even in the 'big' clubs. Russell, you need to go away and increase your training or watch more Blackadder films! You should be in the holding role in midfield and only you can get back in by your efforts. Caff, for instance, has alerted his Uncle at Barnsley FC that Darren is out of contract in May.
  19. If Dundee United were to fall away from Dunfermline, even with Paul Surrock in charge, no right minding person would want to go there in January because teams that get relegated often move on their high earners.
  20. At the end of the day the chairman is looking for results," Brewster said. ''We need some wins, and quickly."
  21. Derek Spillie, that has a nice ring to it.
  22. "I keep asking for a reaction. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how good you are, you can only work with the tools you've got..... and people will maybe question me, whether I've got the ability. I had the ability at Inverness. Those boys responded to me brilliantly. But at Dundee United it is not happening.'' Confirmation that Craig believes he is superman and his players mediocre.
  23. This thread gets better every time you read bits. The one I really like is about getting rid of all the current players and someone else noticing they wouldn't have a team if that happened. This time last year Livingston were like Dads Army - Flynn said ' there's no need to panic, Paul has my full confidence!!' They didn't bother to panic and slipped away quite quietly in the end. ET is a very good accountant and he's cottoned on that -£2m + Brewster is a far worse scenario than -£500k - Brewster+Malky. I think Brewster has worked that out. The question is which two unfortunate teams will lose to Dundee United in their next 27 league games? Brews probably up the Heathmount this very minute dreading tomorrow's training.
  24. He was chopped for the free kick that lead to the winner - Rossco is a talisman and winner representing team spirit not overpaid egos.
  25. Do not feel sorry for Malky and Peter....only fools rush in where angels fear to tread. They made judgments and they were unsound.
